Red Light Cameras Dead

No, not here yet. Too much money involved here with the connected contracts. We're talking about Pasadena:
  • Pasadena drivers can now avoid that gut-wrenching feeling of being caught in the flash of a red-light camera, wondering if they made it through the intersection in time.

City officials decided not to renew a contract with American Traffic Systems Inc. for the city's seven red-light cameras, citing a lack of enforcement from Los Angeles County courts, time wasted by Pasadena police officers and questions about the cameras' effectiveness in improving traffic safety.

Additionally, the program — while never expected to bring in a lot of money — is running at a $4,487 deficit, the Pasadena Sun reported.

  • Janka said the main reason for killing the cameras is that they waste law enforcement resources.

In a month one officer issues as many traffic citations, including for red-light running, as do all of the cameras, according to a staff report.

"A lot of time is spent going to court dealing with challenges," Janka said. "It makes more sense to put more money into the Police Department, which is more effective."

The city of Los Angeles discontinued its red-light camera program after identifying enforcement and equipment problems.

Gee, money into an effective Police Department? Amazing.

The past 20yrs have been a waisting marathon in the shitty city. It's better to take care of cronies & repay political favors with bullshit contracts for junk that doesn't work very well.

Yes, but the difference here is that the fix is already in.

Our camera citations don't go to court. They go to the 'hearing officers' who are hired, and paid for, by the City of Chicago.

Not too many reversals there, ya know?

Well, there's the problem right there.

In Crook County, the Courts are not a place for the population to appeal to to resolve legitimate questions about ANYTHING. Here, judges are beholden to politicians for their very jobs, so when told to fleece citizens out of every nickle in their pockets, the courts gladly do what they're told, and fleece away!

These Reed Light Camaras and soon to be Speed Camaras, exists because Traffic Court in Cook County is a joke and a waste of time for the Officers!

Most traffic tickets are thrown out with the stupidest excuses!

Why write traffic tickets, when the Judges feel sorry for the fines they have to levy on the violators!

So fuck doing Traffic Stops and writing tickets!

Chicago uses their red light cameras as a trap with shorter then normal yellow lights. They are not going to stop this abuse

Odd, there must not be any children in that part of California. I mean, that's why we have them, right?

Totally agree. I never understood how they got away with sending a 'traffic violation' to a city hearing officer. It's not an ANOV for DOPW, it's a traffic violation and should be heard in a court

California was stupid enough to make camera tickets a "moving violation". They somehow thought the mere photograph of the driver's face somehow established identity (ever heard of identical twins?). If they had done like Crook County and made it a violation against the vehicle owner (no points on the license) then they could have set up their own kangaroo courts just like Crook County and avoided all these procedural issues like "evidence" and other silly nuances. Oh California, will you ever learn?
