Evidently, the numbers were ahead of where we thought:
- Diorio was one of six people slain that day in Chicago, tying Feb. 19 for the most homicides on a single day this year in the city, according to police statistics. Her slaying was among eight spanning Friday evening through early Monday.
As of Monday, there have been 38 homicides recorded in August, three more than all of August 2011, the statistics show. During the first 19 days of August last year, there were 22 homicides.
The rise in this month's homicides comes on the heels of a July that saw its fewest killings in years.
Now, with the national media supposedly about to start covering Chicago's bloody year, one had to wonder if (A) the rumors are true about a massive redeployment of Unit personnel is on the horizon and (B) if McNumbersGame's days are being measured with a stopwatch instead of a calendar.

019 district has so many officers they are giving away free tickets to cubs games. other districts work so hard they dont have time to go to baseball games. why do they have 400 + officers and 60 tact officers while districts like 15, 11, 08, 07 have less officers?

Newsflash! The majority of the public is not concerned with shootings and murders in the ghetto! How many "people" shot and killed in Chicago last weekend? The latest headlines have been all about the girl from Wheaton shot in St Louis! By focusing on this out of state murder the media is unintentionally implying that the life of a productive member of society is far more important than a gangbanger in the ghetto. I agree one hundred percent. The public will continue to turn a blind eye until more productive people are shot dead in the streets of this shithole of city. Ask any non-police friend if they know or care about what happens to gangbangers. Ghetto numbers don't matter.
This guy isn't going anywhere. Dumping him would be an admission of failure by Rahm, just like dumping Weis would have been an admission of failure by Daley. Ultimately the carnage on the streets is a combination of the lack of hiring the last five years, the relentless attacks by the liberal media, the refusal to back us up by the politicians etc etc etc. I'm not saying this guy is doing a good job, I'm not even saying he is doing an ok job, but I really don't know if anyone could do much better in this current climate.
One thing that helps is Rahm's half finger. Everytime he counts to ten, he only gets nine and a half. That way you lose half a homicide for every ten. That is were the increase in the decrease come in.
Yes, and if the current superintendent does resign who would the mayor replace him with and what would be the new strategy? Not likely this will happen as the mayhor will not want to admit he might have been wrong in his choice ( which I do not think he was) and he will not want to take the chance that the replacement will not do any better. Yes, a lot of the hair gel set want to go back to special units where they can roam the city and have 2 hours lunches. I do not think that is the answer. Cut back on tactical teams for one ( I do remember when the tact teams were assigned to the watch nightly and it did not cause a spike in crime rates ) and hire more personnel. Tact teams waste too much time and for the most part make BS arrests.
Would it be fair to haul a few dozen more bodies in from Gary and Detroit to really run those numbers up? I can just see McCarthy having the "Big One".

Gunman on life support after being beaten on street

A shooting in the West Humboldt Park neighborhood overnight had an unusual ending: The victim was barely injured and the gunman was left on life support after witnesses chased him down and beat him, police said.
About 11:50 p.m. Monday, the 19-year-old gunman exited a green van and confronted a 23-year-old man in the 1100 block of North Keystone Avenue, a "hotbed" of narcotics transactions, police said. The assailant tried to shoot the victim but the weapon malfunctioned and during a subsequent struggle for the gun, the gun discharged and hit the victim in the shoulder, police said.
The gunman then threw the weapon to the ground and began running away. Someone else hopped into the green van and took off with it.
Witnesses who'd apparently seen the shooting chased after the gunman and "severely stomped the offender in the head" until police got to the scene.
The gunman suffered major head trauma and was taken toJohn H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook Countywhere he is in critical condition and is breathing with the assistance of a machine, police said.
The man shot has been released from a hospital and told police he does not want to press charges, police said.

You won't see many here; it's a foregone conclusion Chicago will go to Obama. Further south in the state, they'll spend a little more money.

14 years ago tonight the CPD lost a brave young officer whose week long valiant struggle to survive a gangbanger's lucky shot united the dept and the city in ways we haven't really seen since. The prayer vigils, blood donation lines and outpouring of support from the community were incredible.
God bless Off. Mike Ceriale, his family, his partner, Joe, and his many friends and fellow officers.
A special thank you to the 017 officers who are gathering tonight to remember Mike at the memorial honoring him in Horner Park and for using the memorial in the way it was intended throughout the year -- as a place to stop and reflect on a kind and good man who left us way too early.

"A 61-year-old woman standing on a street corner was seriously wounded when she was “caught in the crossfire’’ in the South Shore neighborhood, where police say gang rivalries have been flaring.
"The woman was shot around 1:40 p.m. at 73rd and Coles streets, according to Grand Crossing District police Sgt. Matt Kolasa. She was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound to the abdomen and was reported stable.
"Witnesses told police she was an innocent bystander. “She was caught in the crossfire of a shootout,’’ Kolasa said, adding that the gang conflicts have broken out in that area..."

This has been going on for ages pal! They hide the house mice by putting them on paper as being on the street, desk, etc. etc. and then send the sheets down town. It only appears as though they are on cars. The only way to catch it is for a suprise visit several times or put in a commander that won't hide the mice from the previous commanders. For example check out 019. Many mice hidden inside as favors from several past commanders. It's so crowded inside that they need traffic lights in the front office.

No, I used to do a lot. Until this dept. drove me nearly to the brink of suicide. Luckily I found a good therapist and now realize what is most important in life. And it's not producing numbers that don't matter except to bosses who want to climb the next rung of a ladder that is out of OUR reach. And it's definitely not this job.
Do you really think movers, parkers, bus check, contact cards and curfews matter at all?
Protect the people who need protecting by being visible. Proactive policing may serve to feed whatever need you have to do it for awhile, but your luck WILL run out and you will end up in the trick bag.

Yes, we have more homicides and shootings. Area 1 choses to handle this by having more inside spots then HGS detectives. Riccio has created ghost spots for all the dead weight. One guy is on the verge of being stripped and all the other secretary spots yet we can't even handle all the shootings.

Do you live in Cook County? You probably will not see them or will see very little of them. Illinois is not a battleground state. They already know Illinois will go for Nobama because of this ultra-liberal, backward and heavily populated Cook County, so why spend the money here?
The community hss to step up besides having dusk-time marches with government-sponsored t-shirts. The culture of the community is that this is OK as long as the revs get their cut, the pols get their votes, and the acceptance that drugs, gangs and the hip-hop "in your face" culture is the cool thing to do because the money buys the cars, clothes and electronics. If they can't buy it on their own with that lifestyle they resort to robbery and theft.
You can throw all the taxpayer money at them for education, jobs and the continued set-aside programs, but it won't change until they finally realize the culture then idolize isn't working and is causing self-destruction and murders.
Personal responsibility, the chaotic and violent behavior has to be restrained and stop blaming everyone else for their failed lives. The teachers, social workers, police, government, etc. aren't going to solve their problems that begin in the home environment.
Hey disgruntled worker at Area 1, if you don't like it, transfer out. Stop blabbing like a spoiled little brat who runs to the kindergarten teacher, you sound like an idiot.

Visitation Parish was one block west of Halsted at Peoria. The demise of this great parish ruined many lives because of the changes in directions that people had to take when they were forced to leave. The separating of friends and family and a loss of community/religious life, took an irreversible toll. I thought she was a student there and not a teacher. Further investigation is needed.
Whether she is an alumni or a teacher makes me sick to even associate this immoral piece of garbage with my beloved parish.
May Our Lady of the Boulevard continue to watch over CPD and CFD.
