Decrease in the Increase

The countdown clock has begun:
  • How soon until Rahm and McCompStat start tooting their own horn about homicides being down in July 2012 as compared to July 2011?

We don't think we quite reached last years total of 55. And even if we broke 50 (making July the worst month of the year), we expect them to playing this one up shortly.

We figure it'll be in the evening papers at the latest.

"Decrease in the Increase" Bravo, well done.

The good ship Titanic of Chicago isn't sinking as fast as it was last year. The rate of sink has slowed somewhat. Wonderful.

Swift public executions seem to be the only thing that has a chance of slowing the ever increasing murders.

we still have more people getting killed here than soldiers in war zones--- cps just stated that they have 18,000 homeless students and 80 percent live at the poverty level--- look at the profile of the typical homicide offender--- young gang member who comes from a poor upbringing--- maybe rahm is right, longer school day and longer school year may save some of these lost kids from a repetitive cycle of violence--- I know, I just pinched myself, the time to get to these kids is when they are young before they turn into an enraged individual who kills someone....

SCC- question for you!

Loyal fan of yours, SCC.

I just heard on BEZ that Mayor Emmaunel's brother owns half of Lalapalooza? Is this true?? This comment was slipped in during the last seconds of this morning's BEZ lively discussion about LaLa which often was anti-LaLa, which just aired between 9am and 10am.

My question to you SCC, is, if Rahm's bro owns part of LaLa, how much of a coincidence is it that just months before LaLa, Rahm makes it only a ticketable offense to be caught with dope here in Chicago?

Did Rahm actually grease his brother's hand making LaLa more attractive to the pot-smoking rockers who attend? And if so, why didn't Rahm tell citizens that his brother will make more money now that Rahm suddenly changed the repurcussions for dope use here in our city??

Didn't Rahm explain this switch as saving on valuable police time ticketing vs. booking an arrest? Which from what I've read here, is a bold faced lie? Same amount of time, right?

The decrease in the increase of my uneasiness about violent crime in Chicago has led me to perceive that things are not as bad as I previously believed them to be, but my perceptions are still worse than they were in the time before there was an increase.

Hence, the TD 9.5/G-MACK methodolgy of tabulating Chicago street crime numbers should be named DWTS (Dancing With The Stats) because this week, the numbers have been cyphered using the Cha-Cha formula of "1 STEP FORWARD, 2 STEPS BACK, THEN TWIRL". Next week, the WALTZ formula could be employed, then the RUMBA formula and so on.

Let's get to dancing and we will all feel better!

I just spent two hours waiting in line to get some awesome Chick-Fil-A's in Schaumburg. I counted four marked Schaumburg squad cars, two Community Service cars and two marked Auxilliary Police squad cars detailed there, for traffic control. Oh forget it, I haven't arrested anyone for pot in over 25 years. Personal use gets scattered to the wind and they get sent home. Not even small amounts of cocaine or heroin. The Associated Press

CHICAGO (AP) — A former death row inmate whose wrongful conviction was the spark that helped end the death penalty in Illinois is headed back to prison for stealing deodorant from a Chicago pharmacy.

Cook County State's Attorney's office spokeswoman Tandra Simonton says Anthony Porter pleaded guilty Tuesday to retail theft and Judge Diane Cannon sentenced him to a year in prison.

Simonton says Porter, who was charged in September 2011, was given credit for 60 days served in Cook County Jail and will be under supervision for one year when released.

Porter served nearly 17 years in prison for the 1982 murder of a Chicago couple. He was released in 1999 after a Northwestern University journalism professor and his students obtained a statement from another man who said he committed the killings.

That is exactly what 9.5 and Blowhard MORON-O, are attempting to do by blocking the opening of a Chick-Fil-A

Government, especially this farce of a legislative and executive branch of Chicago, should not be critisizing anyone.

What's next? Closing down all business that don't support Israel?

On top of that most of the po's working are doing so on their day off and aren't looking to lock up some kids for smoking weed at a concert...in fact it is discouraged by the bosses. Of course the guys have plenty of AR's and contact cards, but no parkers, curfews or movers, so they were all denied. The funny part is now 35th street had to cancel the days off for tact teams THUR, FRI, SAT, and Sunday due to lack of manpower for the violence OT gig. SCC- from NBC Chicago but with a bit of a reality check:

By Lindsay Smith
NBCChicago.com

updated 2 hours 42 minutes ago

Chicago saw a few less homicides in July this year than in the previous year.

With a total of 49 homicides across the city during July, the homicide rate for the month decreased by 11 percent, according to police statistics, the Chicago Tribune reports.

July 2011 saw 55 total homicides.

The month's decrease could be due to an increased police presence in crime-ridden districts like the South Side's Englewood, but experts say the high homicide rates from earlier in the year could be a fluke, and now we're seeing a return to more usual averages, the Tribune reports.

Even with the slight decrease, the year-to-date numbers remain well above last year's. With 308 total homicides through the month of July in 2012, Chicago has seen 26.7 percent more than the 243 in the same period in 2011.

The almost 27 percent increase is substantially lower, though, than the nearly 40 percent jump in homicides that Chicago saw in the first six months of 2012 as compared to the first half of 2011.

TO: Comm. Michelle T. Boone and the crew at the City of Chicago's official tourism site www.ExploreChicago.org

Keep on rollin', baby.

First academics determined that Chicago was the most politically corrupt major city in the nation.

Then, Business Insider named Chicago as "the WORST HELLHOLE CITY" in the nation among the 275 U.S. cities with populations in excess of 100,000. Click HERE.

And now...(fanfare with drumroll, trumpets and guitar riff, maestro)...check out Chicago's latest claim to infamy: CHICAGO: THE DEADLIEST GLOBAL CITY

Time to update that tourism website, Ms. Boone?

Can someone please explain to me why the civilian who works at the academy and has her own parking spot is dressing like a re-make of flashdance? The only thing missing is legwarmers. I was there for training and saw her yesterday wearing shorts they didn't even cover her behind all the way. I think she is in charge of budget and some other civilians. Why isn't there a dress code. Other civilians walk around in flip flops and tank tops. Is that conservative business attire. I think there should be a dress code and everyone who works there should look professional. Chief Kirby, please have your people look into this. P.S. Could you please tell them daily showers with the occasional hair washing is required. Nasty, dirty, old clothes. GROSS and unprofessional.

------------------------------
But what about the high quality training? There are instructors with no degrees who could not teach someone how to mop a floor. And there are instructors with advanced degrees who are incredibly stupid. They could not run a kindergarten class. The academy subject matter is supposed to be at the college level.

Howard Lodding, the boss who runs the academy, has no degree, so why make it mandatory for an instructor to have a degree?

This sounds like a sworn insder at the academy who has nothing else to do but watch the activites of others? A few do the work of many. If you are bored, find a classroom and start teaching, otherwise MYOB

You have an excellent point. That might explain how everyone is an expert on everything; but most instructors do not understand much.

I am sure that you are a tenured professor at the academy. So, I will not be able to teach at your level. And I am sure that you do the work of 300 instructors at the academy. But becase when I go to a training session and the instructors merely read from the image on the wall and I leave the academy without learning anything, it is my business.

My question to you SCC, is, if Rahm's bro owns part of LaLa, how much of a coincidence is it that just months before LaLa, Rahm makes it only a ticketable offense to be caught with dope here in Chicago.
read the order. if caught on park property or observed smoking you have to arrest . with an anov you still have to go to station to test and inventory. might as well do the arrest. the city is looking for $, do the anov and you lose court ot.

MYOB?? That academy sets the standard for every recruit who passes through it. The standards should be set pretty high and the personnel should reflect that.

When I went through, I guarantee you flip-flops, casual attire and fluffy hair would NOT be acceptable as being representative of 'Chicago's Finest'.

SCC....You should do a thread on how dumb 35th ST is(yeah I know you have done it dozens and dozens of times), but this one is above their normal stupid level. What they did now was deney numerous tact guys the opportunity to work the violence reduction OT gig for August on the grounds of "not enough activity." Of course the guys have plenty of AR's and contact cards, but no parkers, curfews or movers, so they were all denied. The funny part is now 35th street had to cancel the days off for tact teams THUR, FRI, SAT, and Sunday due to lack of manpower for the violence OT gig. So now the same guys they said "didn't meet the quota for activity" are now needed for the OT gig. Boy are we lead by some real dummies! I wonder if the Supt. even knows about this?

You were doing great til you wrote that last sentence.

Do you really think McI'llWhisperSoYou'llPayAttentionToMe 1)knows what the criteria are for special, 2)cares what the criteria are for special, 3)cares about you, 4)cares how they fill the spots, as long as they get filled somehow?

The Academy subject matter IS AT THE WHIM of the Illinois Training and Standards board.

They are the entity that dictates statewide what will and will not be taught within academies in the State of Illinois.

Agreed.
The Academy should set the standards of how personnel should look and act within a professional police environment.

This is just another phase in the dumbing down of the Chicago Police Department.

An intelligent, professional, well rounded police leader (exempt rank officer, lieutenant, or sergeant), should set some professional standards within the department, especially the academy.

Since, this department has no one that fits the description of such a police supervisor, we have what we have over at the academy = the dumbing down of the department in the infancy stage.

There are officers as well as civilians over there that dress as if they are lounging in their bedrooms.

Dirty, nasty, greasy filthy hair and clothing. Some stinky that do not bathe. Half the staff is in civilian dress and you could not tell who is an instructor and who is not.

One would think that since Kirby is in charge she would do an intervention on some of these employee's.

Nice try. You must be one of the mentally challenged instructors. You must have an I.Q. of under 40. The State of Illinois dictates the subjects. And the academies write the lesson plans and set the standard of difficulty. At the same time the recruits are getting college credit. (They leave the academy with college credit for doing work that is not even near the college level.) But the scary stuff is that you might be the one that is putting the training together or delivering the instruction. (Please do us a favor, do not continue your gene pool.)

"Decrease in the Increase"
---

This is nothing new. Almost 40 years ago the Department was saying the same exact thing, the "increase is decreasing." One year in the early '70's there was over 900 homicides. The bosses longed for the good old days of only 450.

If you stick around long enough or live long enough and have a decent memory the same shit gets trotted out there. Nothing new under the sun.

Yes, the Academies write the lesson plans based on the THE STATE PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES.(These come from the Illinois Training and Standards Board)

Additionally, all curriculum must be approved by the Training and Standards Board.

CPD Recruits have not gotten college credit since the City/Academy severed their ties with Harold Washington College
(5 - 7 years ago)

So, know it all, they do not leave the Academy with any college credits.
They do however have to have 60 college credits in order to even take the entrance exam.

Maybe thats were you are confused.
