New Time Due Policy

According to the Patrol Division Directive, only XO's and Commanders can approve elective time off.

We expect grievances to skyrocket.

We are speechless.

But coppers are bragging about how many of their days off they are working the Crime Reduction Initiative. Keep it up boys and girls, keep playing into Rahm's hands. All of you are looking at your short term gain with no eye on the long term consequences.

And when the city no longer is offering this BS and you still can't get a day off, you people will be the first to bitch.

Hey 35th street you are doing a great job crushing morale and bringing on a work slow down no doubt. Why punish coppers for the lack of manpower/hiring that city hall created? You see most of us don't have the clout to hide inside and get every sat sun off. Now you are fucking with our familes and time off that we earned by working almost every fucking weekend and holidays! Kiss the CPD good by!

I'm seriously thinking of hiring my own attorney and filing a suit against Rahm, McFuckwad, and the City. WTF, how much worse can this get? FOP has filed grievances, but nothing has been done, and this no time due stuff has been going on for months. Seriously boys and girls, I know that OT thing is easy money, but the only way to hit them back and hit them hard is to stop doing anything and everything. No time due? Ok, no OT initiative, no movers, no parkers, no ANOV's, and no proactive policing. Before I get the "you're just a dog" BS, just save it. If they are doing this to us now, what's going to be next? Now that this "no time due" is being stressed, eventually, it's going to become the norm. Just like they did with curbing OT on a late job. Go to your calls. Back eachother up. Give the citizen a report. Get a foot patrol ev #. Arrest someone on signed complaints, but don't give them anything extra at all.

The time due restrictions are becoming a little too much. The higher ups are trying to make the streets safer by keeping officer on the street. How about hiring more officer. I heard that the city is going to put about 500 recruits in the academy, but they are not getting enough that pass all of the testing process. The city is lucky to get 50 recruits per a class. How sad is that??

The non clouted district blue shirts get it stuck in their asses again!

On my watch we might have about 90 P/Os and we do have 6 sgts and 1 Lt. The Lt takes off whenever he wants. The XO wants one supervisor as the DSS and two sgts on the street. Other then that all the other sgts can get CU. So only about 8.9 % of P/O's can get CU, but 57% of the supervisors can get CU (I included the Lt in my supervisor count). Needless to say, the front office can get CU anytime they want. More of “do as I say, not as I do”.

The problem is people on management, you have 3 year wonders that don't want to lose their day spot. Which makes it harder, they keep on writing tickets. So the bottom line everyone has to stop generating revenue for the city. Maybe then they will understand that you need time off once in a while.

Did anyone read the order from Patterson? He actually states "as managers we must make tough decisions to balance rewarding our personnel with time off against the needs of the organization". I came on the job with Patterson and worked with him in patrol. I always thought Joe was the real deal, someone who could FINALLY relate to the working police.
WAS I WRONG!!!
REWARDING us with time off?? Hey Joe, fuck off! In 26 years I've missed family parties, kids ball games, went to functions on 2 hrs of sleep had days off canceled to work details, had hours changed on tact to work numerous details. This was fine because I knew it came with the job, and with the understanding that I could use that time accrued when I wanted, not to beg a boss for a REWARD!
Now being a Sgt on a watch, I feel a message needs to be sent. Anyone who goes out of their way to make these assholes look good is crazy.
These bosses live and die on "index" numbers; movers, parkers, truants, curfews. Don't give them shit! Make them beg for a REWARD, you writing a ticket!
Sorry for the rant, but after spending an entire career in a district on the street, it infuriates me that they want to make it look like they're doing you a favor by REWARDing you by using YOUR time!
Please be safe & back each other up.
It's us against them...GAME ON BITCHES!

Back in the day, when God/Captains would routinely deny time due if you didn't kiss the ring enough, officers sick of that shit would submit two slips, one a filled out time due slip and the other a medical roll formset (not used any more) with the request to use one or the other at the Captain's discretion.

Time due denied, then use the medical slip. It is getting back to that very rapidly.

Well the city will continue to fuck with us again and again. Why? Well most of us still behave like sheep. For example: A p.o. in my district was denied time off to spend with his family. On top of that he planned a camping trip with his kids and took 4 days off. At the last minute he was denied those four days off. The boss joked you can take time off in the middle of January. It's "just too crazy on the streets right now".

Despite all of that, every single day he comes in with at least one CB#, 5 parkers, 5 to 8 movers, 5 contact cards, 5 blue cards and 1 to 3 curfews. While most guys go to the hole after three hours, he will work his butt off for the entire tour.

Ladies and gentleman in our district and in our watch we have people like the above p.o. I described. As long as we do so much for so little (or nothing) in return the city will continue to diminish our benefits. Benefits that we rightfully earn by the way. Not given.

In the end honestly we can blame the city as much as we want. But in the end, we have no one to blame but ourselves.

Time due is one of the best perks of the job. Especially if you work 3rd watch and need to attend a family function. With all the other BS this job throws at you, at least you could hope to go to your kid's concert or ball game. Even maybe, take the wife out for dinner. Having the option of time or pay is fair. I just don't want to give the government more money than I have to and so I take time instead of money. With that option possibly being taken off the table, what's the point? this is not like other jobs....

Time to slow down again.

Actually, in the 1970's the cops had issues with downtown and the mayor's office, instead of slowing down, they went on a ticket writing rampage. True Story. They all got together and decided to do zero tolerance traffic enforcement. They wrote everyone for every thing, even the most minor of offenses. They wrote everyone too, doctors, nurses, judges, politicians, mom's with babies, EVERYONE except fellow cops. The result, they got the city to agree to their demands because the up roar by the public was so huge. Google it if you think I am busting stones. Imagine pulling over Jesse, or Meeks or Shiller or the Cardinal and issuing them a ticket and saying "Sorry, but we don't get any breaks, so neither do you."

One or two arrests a week, for court?????
How about 1 per period, you'll get your 3 hrs min. faster. Throw in 1 traffic 'must appear' for another 3 cash.
No problem getting the ot, but you won't spend 8hrs in any courtroom. So why get more cb's than necessary?

It is legal because it is in the contract, Section 26.5

If you leave the employ of the City for cause (separated, fired) you will be paid for compensatory time only in excess of 171 per 28 day cycle. And virtually no one has that.

Easy solution: Don't get fired.

Roti owes the skull for making him Chief and got Mealer dumped to save his girl. This Sgt would screw her mother to make herself look good. Knows zero about police work.

Bottom line, Mc C found out today about Roti helping the skull and is not too happy.

Mealer was on the top of his game in intel and pretty boy
Lt. D-Wayne did everything he could to backdoor Mealer.

These fools really think Mc C is sleeping. The NYC guys know the game much better then the exempts he inherited.

It was negotiated and approved by the membership

Yes, this is true. You will not be reimbursed for accrued time due if you are fired-only for P-days, V-days, and BFD. Don't know how this is legal or possible but it is true.
_______________
Check out section 26.5 of our contract. That's why the City can do this. FOP agreed to it.

8/11/2012 04:00:00 PM

I don't know the history of this section, if arbitration put it there or negotiation. Only FLSA time will be paid, if you work in excess of 171 hours in a period, over that you can keep except the City started paying officers for that time and we lost the arbitration so City can continue paying. And if you get fired you will lose it all.

Do not get fired. I've never gotten fired. Most people don't get fired.

P.O. From 010 denied the day off to go to a family funeral. Can't get much lower then that. I guess this seven day in advance slip and only 5 people off a day doesn't change even if your family dies.....

8/11/2012 03:45:00 AM

What family member was it? You better have him check the contract because you get 2-3 days off for death in the family depending on your relationship to the deceased.

8/11/2012 08:51:00 AM

3 days off for immediate family, 5 days off if it is in a non-contiguous state. Wisconsin is 3 days, Minnesota is 5 days for example. I have heard of that being denied but only by asshole bosses and they lose the fight but I wouldn't put it past some of today's bosses. There is no one left like Terry McCue.

Section 19.2 — Definition of Family.

A member of the immediate family shall be defined to be any officer’s mother or father (including step), wife, husband, domestic partner, daughter or son (including step or adopted), sister or brother (including half or step), father-in-law, mother-in-law, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, grandparent or grandchild.

This retiree is still confused. Is an XO someone that loves you?

8/11/2012 01:49:00 AM
--------

All remaining Captains have been made "XO"s .... Executive Officers in districts.

Basically they are assisants to the Commanders.

In many districts they are the "brains" running the show because the commanders are
"NIT-WITS" like Flores in 014.

8/11/2012 02:18:00 PM

They are the super-mini-micro-managers for the D.C.'s who have taken over all the functions of the Watch Commanders except to approve arrest reports. The W.C., now the "District Station Supervisor" is no more than a glorified clerk and makes no decisions, none at all, with regards to the personnel on all the watches.

Probably the worst is Captain C.W. in 010, who got caught doing bad things in the 002 years ago. Wore a wire, had a bugged apartment and lured in cops for the feds. The bad things got pushed aside but not forgotten. She spent the rest of her career making people miserable on this job. She now will deny you your "Time Due" and wish you a "blessed night" as you leave disgusted.

retiree said......seriously, thank you for the XO answer. It sounds like a sci-fi title though or hugs and kisses. I can see where Captain might have used up it's usefulness and popularity as a term of military rank after all these millennia.

I am a big proponent of this idea. They want a proactive police force, then let's become one. Zero Tolerance. Enforce the law to the letter. Let the job's back-up, RAPs increase, citizens and politicians scream. You want us to do more with less then we'll show you how it's done.

You're just one of those hard chargers trying to get everyone on board with you so you don't look like the only asshole bringing in activity for the bigger assholes everyday.

8/11/2012 04:49:00 PM
=
Time due is not a PERK.
It is time I have already worked but have not been financially compensated for it, saved in the bank, to be redeemed by me in the future.

For the record, I do enjoy being the police, so if that is a hard charger, guilty. Now, do a little research and check out the facts. You can do a google search and you will find the actual news articles. Funny thing is that they weren't published by the MSM here in Chicago, it was reported by Milwaukee. Back then, Old Man Daley had the media in his pocket (what's old is new again). So Chicago papers wouldn't write about it.
I, in no way, am a company guy looking to give them their stats, I am merely offering an alternative viewpoint, one that was highly successful. Like I said, imagine pulling over all the aldercreatures and writing them tickets, or giving them parkers for having a dangly from the rear view mirror. Hit them hard enough and they will fold. Just saying.

Listen hairgels , demand cpd assign all police officers to street duty and hire civilians .
Maybe then you'll get time due , to many police answering telephones and doing secretarial duties .
McCarthy has tried but no power to assign sworn officers from commander secretaries to the street.NY Mac has no idea how many officers are hiding in offices , FBI man jfed couldn't find 'm and mccarthy can't either.
