More nefarious work by Rahm? Or just lazy media types over at the Tribune?
- Twenty-four homicides have been logged so far this month. Thirty-seven homicides were recorded in August 2011, according to RedEye data.
That entry was made on 14 August. The RedEye tracker is about 10 homicides short and a week behind.
The fight for the homicide crown has tightened up lately, with half a dozen districts within a single or a double killing from the lead. 010 dropped out of the lead for a bit while 007 caught and passed them. 011 is tied in second place during the month, trailing only by one. The race is a crowded as a Kentucky Derby homestretch.

Welp when the tracker comes back on-line I think we're gonna see that we have already exceeded 2011 homicides for Aug 2012 and there is still ten more days to go!

In the 80's the 11th District accounted for fully 1% of the country's murders. This one crummy little piece of the city. What is the percentage rate today that Chicago represents of the nation's homicides?

You know what really pisses me off about the redeye homicide tracker? When they finally break it all down they list homicide victims by race. Black is a race and so is White/Hispanic. Why do they lump 2 distinct races together? In this city where minority culture is so fucking important and held on such a pedestal why would the tribune lump the evil oppressive whites with ANY minority race??? Is it because they don't want to state the truth that 80% of the homicides are black on black, with 19% Hispanic on Hispanic and the remaining 1% is a white, asian or Arab victim? Total bullshit. I know the redeye is a glorified comic book that's only good for its easy crossword puzzle that makes me feel smart when I'm taking a shit in the station but c'mon! I know the has been brought up on here before but I just felt it needed to be said. Also no disrespect to Hispanics.

It's called web mapping. You can find it on the clear home page. It has the city total homocide # and breaks it down by district, weapon of choice, age, race, gender, time of day, beat, and if they failed to contribute to the Chicago democratic machine.

Citizen here, I noticed about 3 weeks ago there were no shootings being reported on the news, so I started reading your blog every morning. The discrepancy between actual murders and those being reported is widening.
Today my daughter and I talked about how the police make us feel safe when crazy is all around, and I showed her your blog. We pray for all of you and appreciate the job you do everyday, not all of us citizens are clueless to your plight, you might not believe it but everything in the dark will come to the light, alot more people will probably die but eventually the nightmare will end and the political machine grinding away at the CPD and city hall will fade... Just not sure if it will be in our life time. Be safe and know many of us love you for being present, especially in the hood.

Don't blame Redeye, that is how the government collects its data. Check out census forms school forms etc.
