This Will Be Normal
Nothing is out of bounds any more:
How soon until someone suggests a new "bus initiative" to be implemented in the hopes of getting a gold star?
The Villaruel brothers hopped on the yellow school bus Friday morning as usual.
It stopped right in front of their South Deering house at about 7:45 a.m., and rolled out once Adrian, 11, and Oscar, 8, made their way to the back.
Their mom, Rosana Villaruel, was watching from the front door when everyone heard something snap.
“Like running over a tree branch,” Adrian explained Friday after returning home from Our Lady of Guadalupe School.
“I thought it was something like his tire popped, or he ran over a big bottle of glass,” his mother said. “I didn’t realize it was actually a shooting.”
She didn’t find out a bullet was fired until the school called her later that morning.
How soon until someone suggests a new "bus initiative" to be implemented in the hopes of getting a gold star?

All signs of the furthur decline of this city. Not even safe for kids on a school bus during daylight hours. Our beloved mayor doesn't give two shits so why should the Gangstas care. Every thing and every one is a target in this town.
Opportunity knocks! Perhaps the Vanecko's can get a "no bid" contract to armor plate all of our school busses" Or at least the Flack Jacket concession for the Board of Education

Doesn't matter how soon.
Whether it's tomorow or a year from now, there'll be throngs of scabs rushing to work it on their RDOs and then complain that they can't get elective time off when they want.
Then you'll hear them bitch about how they're "missing a day on the check", "got killed at tax time" and "how bad the mayor fucked us on our contract". Oh yeah, you'll also hear them blame the FOP for "allowing it all to happen".
Wave that almighty cash money and guys will sell their first born to get a piece of it. Same strokes will be beating off to their retro checks while Rahm and Co. gets most of it back via concessions they won't know were pushed thru until some brainless dolt accidentally stumbles upon it.
Same as it ever was, same as it ever was.

Let's see, we're short of help, everyone knows it. Just how many years will it take to get the staffing levels up to the necessary level for things to be normal? Answer: Probably 3 years from now, if ever. They are offering this overtime because they are short and they know many of us will work it if offered.
Looky here democrat, when GM is short of help, they let "scabs" work overtime. When a restaurant is short of help, they let "scabs" work overtime. The department is short of help, they're letting us work as "scabs" to bridge the gap. Anyone that has a lick of sense knows that you don't fill jobs with senior employees working overtime forever because it's cheaper to hire new help at the starting wage. Do you remember that layoff notices went out in the early 80's when the city ran out of money? We have the same situation happening right now.
Why don't you get back to the radio room and hand out some radios, loafer. There is work to do that most of us signed up to do and I'll give up a day off now and then to make some decent hourly overtime pay. I know what it's like to have a shit job that wouldn't let you have time off when you wanted. We have it pretty good here, most of the time. CPD is still pretty family friendly and oriented. Go try and get an 80k per year job somewhere else with that lousy attitude of yours and see how fast you return to being one of the 23% unemployed/underemployed.

Is it your employers job to accommodate all of your time off requests? I know there is no work to be done in "your world", but the one that the rest of us occupy, your LIVELIHOOD rates a little more than maybe 7th or 8th place in their priorities.
I'm thinking gun free bus routes might be in order?
Oh wait, isn't the entire city a gun free zone already?
9.5 says It's for the children......
The gangsters must have misunderstod what It is.
WOW!!! Shooting at school buses with little kids on it. Even shooting wildly that early in the morning is stupid. I see this is another example of "Chicago Values".
Maybe CPD can escort all school buses with one marked squad in the front and back of the bus to ensure safe passage to the school. Ya that's it!!! Can I get my gold star now please??
Perhaps they can convert some of those armored Hum-Vees into school buses? The Iraqi war is over.
Was the bus shooting in the alley like evil Tiny Dancer asked?
If so, its okay...
If not, maybe we should obliterate them!
Hey, how do I apply for that Obliteration Team, anyway?

Well said WestSide, Inside Do-Nothing! You hit the nail right on the head
At least the fireman and teachers stick together. Not so with CPD to our own detriment.
Rham says "the shooting was all good. Both parties were in alleys shooting at eachother. It's the fault of the bus driver for not allowing the shooters to finish before entering into their crossfire". Don't forget taxpayers; t-shirts and key chains on the way from the DNC convention.
3:03am. Amen!
this will never be normal in my neighborhood. i don't live in that district, but i am on the southside. deering is supposed to be nice too i thought. my only goal is to bid to the district i live in and take care of things the way i feel they should be. certainly, no heartless mayor or idiotic superintendant and aldermen are really doing anything to change issues in our neighborhoods. it is real simple, stop giving juvies all these extra chances when they do wrong. they know they get off scott-free as long as they're a juvenile. as for the adults, start cracking down as well, and make sure they serve more than just 50% of their sentence. if you make everyone worried about the consequences i think they'll think a tad harder before they act like savage animals.
soon riding "shotgun" takes on the old meaning...
Maybe I misunderstood your question on what business the bus had being there that early in the AM... but at that time in the AM the bus takes kids to school. That was it's business being there. It should be safe at any hour anyway.
The irony.
Speed cameras instead of shot spotters near schools.
Revenue instead of safety, for the children.
the alderman and the maxwell street mayor are to blame for throwing city workers under the bus and rewarding contractors and their non-city residency employees; including charter schools; religious participants for a quid pro quo environment.

You are 100 % correct! Shit I still can't believe coppers are jumping out of their cars to chase these little angles with guns. Remember IRPA and the Cook Co. ASA are still looking to put a notch on their belt and get a copper indicted for unjustifiable homicide.
and the rest of the country just shakes their head and says......geez glad I don't live there.
Maybe Rahm and his mindless McNutjob are trying for a world record on how to destroy a big city in 5 easy steps.... whatever, it's FUBAR
Actually, if I am using compensatory time earned it is my employers job to accommodate all my time off requests. BECAUSE IT IS MY F'ING TIME.
And gee, the courts agree.
the revs are going to solve the problem. they want a new law passed in springfield. now dont laugh, this is going to work. lol please stay away from them it may be contagious. the important thing is prince harry is going to afganhistan, to fly a helicopter. that war will over soon.

If CPD ever got any of those Hum-Vees from Iraq, they would be the unarmoured ones......

Wow, the courts agree! Since when is some black robed nitwit an expert in the running of a service business? Or ANY business?
You own UPS. All of your employees want Super Bowl Monday off. You give it to them. None of your packages get delivered. Oh well, we'll get to it when our comp time people come back. That'll work, won't it?
You own Kentucky Fried Chicken. All of your employees want Mothers Day off. Are you supposed to close that day, your biggest sales day of the year because your employees demand the day off? After all, it's their comp time.
You own a large airline company, all of your employees want off for Thanksgiving. Eve and day after also. I guess you'll just close those days to accommodate your employees use of comp time. No need to worry about the busiest travel days of the year. All you fucks that want to travel, just go to hell. Drive to Texas in your car. We're too busy being off to do our jobs. We're entitled to it!
Your job exists because there is a need for it and there are customers that need it. Your employer can give you off if he wants to. Not because he has to. I don't care what some judge has decided. He's not the one that has to be 99 here because you want off. A good employer does what he can for you. A bad employer does what he wants regardless of what you want. The only reason we are having this discussion is because we're short of help because our employer has decided that he can't afford to have so many of us. My requests for time off have almost always been met, so far. This seems to be changing now and I don't see it changing for the better any time soon. I am unhappy about this just as you are. The difference is I know that the employer requires a certain level of cooperation from his employees to successfully operate and there is a need for a staffing level that must be maintained.
I love the word "entitled". It usually comes out of the mouth of some self absorbed, I want what I want, when I want it, persons mouth. Doubt it, just axs anyone with a link card, Obama phone or section 8 housing voucher. We voted for these people that have decided they are worth more than you are. The governors of New Jersey and Wisconsin solved their financial troubles and did so fairly quickly and without too many painful consequences to the government employees. We enlightened and entitled voters of Illinois elected Mr. Quinn and that bastard Madigan. I wonder how many of us are going to be sacrificed to get things in order due to their kicking the can down the road until there is no road left to kick it down?
And gee, the courts agree.

The courts said abortion is ok, that OJ was innocent, that hearsay evidence is ok, enemy combatants should be tried in regular courts, separate but equal was ok, Japanese Americans could be in relocation camps, busing should be used to further integration and the bondholders of GM had no rights. Should I go on or did you get my drift, just because a judge says so, don't make it so! It's one mans opinion and he's not elected and doesn't give a damn about what is actually right. The 2nd Amendment says the rights of the people shall not be infringed. Pretty clear, right? Well, maybe not, some legal scholars have been saying for years that it doesn't mean what it says. They're big on the reasonable man right now and I don't think that a reasonable man would say you can have off whenever you want because it's your time due without reasonable considerations for your employers needs.
Ok, so noone puts in for the overtime, that means the city will hire 1,000 + cops? What are you smoking? 1,000 cops do don't shit for us. Doesn't even cover retirements that have taken place. But let's just go w 1,000. How long is that going to take? 40 per class. Class is 6 months probation is another 12? 40 divided by 23 dist is 2 each. That doesn't even give you 1 on each watch and in the meantime, how many are retiring? How long is it going to take? They can't get people to pass the psych or the drug test or the lie box, besides getting them to take the test period. Let's say they decide to hire, HOW LONG IS IT GOING TO TAKE FOR IT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE?
Besides that, departments all over the country, large and small, have overtime, call back, hireback, whatever they call it. If they got rid of the overtime, it would not force them to hire the amount we really are short. And if and when they decide to do some serious hiring, we still won't feel the difference. The dept. will return to their old ways and start hiding more, putting more inside, put up useless units, so the average Joe on the street will not feel the difference unless they hired 3,000. When do you think that will happen? This dept. Has never really had an ot initiative besides CHI, CTA and Ohare. I know CTA is straight time, and unless you had major years you couldn't get Ohare. There is nothing wrong with an ot initiative in a dept. A lot of officers can't use court for ot because of family and school. The ot is not what is wrong. The fact they have let the dept go without is wrong and that they won't hire 3,000 is wrog. But if no one put in for it, that won't make them hire more. They will cut Td further, take away all furlough extensions, and hurt patrol more by making another msf or something similar. Don't get pissed at a copper for taking advantage of the program. If won't be there forever because they will run out of money for that and in the long run, its not a sound financial decision, its just for the short term. Stop hatin' the wrong group.
"Our Lady of Guadalupe" was looking out for the children. Thank her.
