Of course strategies are working, our reduction in violence numbers are fantastic, media is bad-mouthing cpd, blame the guns-not the people using them, last but not least the people getting shot are murderers so its okay they get shot or killed.
i actually like the last point he makes, everything is just a quality PR spin.
The media can no longer be expected to be a watchdog of any variety, particularly here in Chicago.
Due to the internet, they've become so much less relevant and since their viewership & readership have diminished, so have their advertising revenues. Advertising revenues are the REAL reason they're in business in the first place.
Because of these diminished advertising revenues, their personnel numbers are down. Without the personnel, most of their "news" comes from wire services. You'll see the exact same story carried by numerous media outlets nationwide. They just don't have the resources available to cover stories. They also don't have the time to follow up on stories. What else do they do? They print press releases verbatim. They don't fact check. No time. No resources.
Chicago is a special case. "Reporters" here are afraid of being locked out by the "newsmakers," so they seem hesitant to ask the hard-hitting questions and to put the spotlight on the cockroaches. Very rarely will they go on the offensive and call someone out who's clearly not being truthful. Few also have any guts; when the line of questioning brings out a defensive or loud response, they back down, apparently not realizing that they've got the interviewee on the ropes.
Without SCC, DSLC and the rest of the blogs, we'd have no choice but to believe the "stories" they shovel every night.

Channel 9 (I think) just ran the story about the rappers rapping about shooting (1 of them now dead). Showed a nano-second of the video mentioned on SCC yesterday. Didn't see any guns, just some faces. .02 seconds of it ran, I think, because I blinked and it was over.

Just watched the Dan Ponce interview.
Will someone please point out that the % change doesn't necessarily mean less murders! For example, let's say in the first 3 months we have 83 murders, as opposed to 50 the year before, which is up 33 murders, and a 66% increase (the same # he just mentioned in this interview). On August 26th, we have 360 murders, as opposed to 273 the year before, which is now up 87 murders over last years count (more than double the earlier increase of 33 bodies), but only a 32% increase in the murder rate. We have not decreased the # of bodies dropping (it actually increased), only the rate of the increase had decreased because you are dividing by a higher number. When will the media point that out?
But instead, 'my initiatives are working, the media just won't give me the credit'.
WE LOST A GOOD GUY- Master Sgt. Pat O'Driscoll, was a very good person, both as a human being, and a Law Enforcement Officer. His brother is a boss on CFD. His professional courtesy ran very deep with the CPD and CFD.Pat was an accomplished Bagpiper and played the bagpipes for many Police and Fireman funerals as well as their weddings. He came from a great hard working family and always put family and friends first. At the time of his death, Pat was having fun with his family. I grew up with Pat,and was with him when he was killed, a most tragic accident. As a friend,and a "brother in blue" I stayed with Pat through this horrific ordeal, and made sure he was afforded every professional courtesy available.(Like he did for others) Please remember Pat as a great guy to have in your corner, and that he would do what he could to help, as he did on many occassions. Take solice knowing Pat died doing what he loved, having fun with his family.

If old timers recall, the old traffic lights in the middle of the intersection , what is now the left turn lane were removed because of being a traffic hazard. I think when you check into it you'll find they are temp, part-time, min wage positions that were created by the $6 trillion dollars of debt borrowing by the government. That's not natural growth and it's not sustainable.

question for scc and others. There was a shootout on the dan ryan expressway at about 87th street last night. The guy in the car was shot and killed as his car exited the ramp and crashed. Well the shooting happened on the dan ryan at 87th which is patrolled by the illinois state police but is clearly in the city limits of the city of chicago. Illinos state police handels the investigation and does the paper. Gmac and company dont want it counted as a chicago murder. Yes I know its the states job yada yada but it happened in the city of chicago. So, the buck was passed to the state police and the city will NOT count that into the homicide totals. Just an FYI for all of you keeping tabs on the murder numbers. Gmac is trying to slip one past the bean counters.

Historically a homicide that happens on the Xpress way, is handled by the ISP and they get the hit for the 0110.
The same would happen if there was a murder in the Federal Building. The G would investigate. Chicago doesn't pick up another 0110.
This might even hold true if a murder took place on an Amtrak train while within the city limits, but I don't think that has ever happened, yet.
So once again, the smoke and mirrors of accurate crime stats for the City kicks in, but not by the McNuttys bidding.
UCR guidllines should be changed to reflect the actual true count of bodies hitting the floor within any cities limits.

Look, I support the teachers as do most of us, but we are not the same and are not even close. They have huge power over the scum that run chicago by the ability to strike. It's a hot button issue for the politicians. Specially the ones that are looking to higher office. They always seem to get a good contract because of it while we get it shoved up our ass time and time again. What do your think will happen to us if the city caves under pressure and gives the teachers a gem? We will be FUCKED and the city will tell the public that we are now the AHOLE'S! They have it pretty damm good and always get a nice raise with loads of time off with their families. However, they do have a much better union than our joke of an FOP. Hell, I hear commercials combating the city by them. FOP would never that for us and that's shamefull! Many years of Merit has corrupted the CPD and the FOP!

They are advocating a criminal act, mobbing the streets and blocking intersections, so it's either flag for prohibited (illegal) activity , or flag it for spam posts (repeated posting of the same ad).

Someone accused them of leaking it. Not someone 'knows' they leaked it. BIG difference.
I think FOP should be looking at whoever she asked to walk that paper into the meeting, instead. And, since she stated she made a bunch of copies (for everyone there), an extra could have been left on the xerox machine, or one of those many copies might have found its way out the door...
