Anyone have any info on a rumor that an Officer's spouse shot and wounded a burglar in their house tonight? And that an exempt member attempted to have her arrested on UUW charges, and when the Detectives refused, he sought a Log Number (the old CR) on the Officer for "failure to secure" a firearm?
Because if this is true, we are sure everyone would be interested.

Retirees money has been stolen through this transfer of wealth. Retirees planned on maybe a 5% interest rate can now only get 1.5% on ten year t-bills. Now do the math on that and see what it does to you fixed income or your pension growth plans.

How so? The weapon doesn't belong to her it's owned by her husband and stored in the home. She just used it for self defense just like she could have used a kitchen knife or a baseball bat. Chicago Police Officers are not required to obey UNLAWFUL orders. Get that through your fucking heads. She was not arrested, the detectives and the district worked together. All of this talk is just opening us up for further investigation and a legal issues, especially of the offender she shot surfaces. Anything to case more havoc before our contract. Posters need to get the story right. The Exempt members followed what the Detective Division suggested. Nothing else was done and no deviation was made period!

Maybe the boss had no intention of screwing anyone but is simply following procedure/closing any loopholes an outsider could use to bring discredit to dept procedures or to the member involved. Paper is used as a valid record of actions taken. It never hurts to follow through on procedure or covering everyone's actions. This officer nor his wife will be disciplined or see a day in court. I don't see anything wrong with protecting ourselves both by the actions the officers wife took and by protecting our members via documentation and procedure.

ANYTIME... a Chicago Police Officer's firearm is involved in a shooting, no matter how justified a C.R. Log will be issued.
The gun may have even been lost, stolen from or even legally of by the officer. If it is connected to a shooting incident and is found to be registered or linked to a Chicago cop the incident will get a C.R. Log to investigate the matter,
Some gray-haired wisdom for you is that if you dispose of a firearm, give it away, sell it to another cop or to a licensed dealer, there is a small pink and gray Firearm Transfer Form (no fee for this) to be filled out and sent to Gun Registration.
Stay Safe, look over how your weapons are store at home and are your family members properly prepare to use deadly force if needed.

This is not as stupid as it sounds. If you leave a handgun for home defense make sure it is something the other person can physically use. I had a small 9mm S&W that I could make tin cans fly plinking out in the boondocks. But it would continually jam if my wife fired it due to weak wrists. So it was a simple, no frills revolver for her when I wasn't home.
To the guy whose wife shot someone in WV before they got married and did get married before telling him of the incident. First of all, sorry for your loss. Second, maybe it was her first husband who she shot. Wives have a way of not telling their intended everything.

NOT TRUE. In Illinois only one person in the party needs a FOID. Some ranges are stricter BUT that is their policy.

I agree that we all need to stand united; however, it's career service, not civil service and most of the exempt currently in positions made rank (with the exception of captain which is "senior executive service") off the list for the ranks they were promoted to. Those who have such a hatred of white shirts and especially exempt for whatever reasons, reasons they themselves don't understand, would LIKE to believe they were all merit promotions to their respective ranks but the fact is, the current crop and most of the recently retired exempts were all promoted from lists they were on. Sorry to burst your bubble.

It wasn't her first husband, at least no in from her side of the family will admit to that.
How so? The weapon doesn't belong to her it's owned by her husband and stored in the home. She just used it for self defense just like she could have used a kitchen knife or a baseball bat. She wasn't on the public way or in her vehicle. She was in her home. If she impaled the burglar with a fishing rod would you check her fishing license?

We get it from Illiniois State Law....Go learn the meaning of the word "possess" as outlined in the FOID statute......
Just holding of the weapon is possession.....has nothing to do with who owns it etc...thats why ranges require FOID on all shooters....same if your wife is home alone with your weapon in the home unsecured, she is in possession.....better have a FOID

You better go check the laws again because most of what you're saying is wrong. Just look at 720 ILCS 5/24-9 as one example... If it doesn't apply to minors under the age of 14 using the weapon in defense of self and home then how does it apply to an adult spouse living in the home? I am a cop and I understand that you don't need a FOID card to pick up a firearm that is legally owned by the head of your household and use it in self defense inside your residence.
