NYPD Officers Hit Hard

Hurricane Sandy managed to devastate huge swaths of the East Coast.  Some neighborhoods heavily populated by police families were leveled.  Throughout it all, a number of Officers have been working 12, 14 even 16-hour days, all the while knowing that they have no home to return to.  Families have been scattered across the state as they attempt to rebuild lives and put things together for their First Responder husbands, wives, brothers, sisters, sons and daughters.

The NYCPBA has a splash intro page on their website listing charitable sites dedicated to assisting NYPD and their families.

TheeRant also has a few posts up about assisting our East Coast brethren.

Check them out.

I can't even imagine...

And the media has all but ignored the severity of it. They had fun reporting the storm itself, but little is heard about the absolute devastation of middle class neighborhoods, the looting and lack of power 11 days in.

God Bless those who have to leave their families to do their duty. Again.

FYI_

The Des Plaines PD with Bill Kushner at the helm is doing the following for the NYPD (all are invited to participate):

Chief Kushner contacted NYPD and was told that the most needed items were cleaning supplies, cleaning products, like bleach, ammonia, paper towels, mops, brooms, garden hoses fans and dehumidifiers.
There is also a pressing need for baby related items, like diapers, baby formula, blankets, as well as regular blankets, hats, scarves and gloves.
Dayton Freight has offered to transport for us at no cost.

Donations are being accepted at all Des Plaines Fire Stations, and the Des Plaines PD.

Did any Politician or reverend ,
father phelger comment on the brutal attack near the 47thst red line station . an armed robbery of a cell i phone and the savages shot the victim 5 times . He said he handed over phone but was shot anyway and left to die on the street . No National news coverage or outrage by our local politicians . No discription of offenders , so that means they were black and shot , robbed a young white victim .
Apply for an FOID card , buy a small automatic or revolver and Protect yourself from these Criminals . This was in the afternoon , a 14 year old girl was sexually assaulted a few blocks from obamas house . Criminals are out of control , only way to get news coverage is when a neighborhood watch volunteer is brutally attacked , defends himself and kills Offender in Self Defense , then the president and every store front reverend is marching . I guess the latest Victim didn't look the the president , but the offenders might have .

Dear Lt Jack from Mass Transit, may now that your retiring: may your future be as bright as the heat lamps at your favorite buffet and may you rise every morning like your most desired mashed potatoes. You sir have earned the admiration of few and the appetite of many. Now please go away and have a Mama Cass ham sandwich. With affection, your underlings. Underlings Not chicken wings. Anger Grows at Response by Red Cross

By David M. Halbfinger, The New York Times

04 November 12

Well what do you know?

That Occupy movement that Mayor Bloomberg destroyed their: tents, libraries, kitchen's, laptops, generators just a short time ago is now serving more meals a day and reaching more people than the Red Cross in NYC.

Thanks mayor Bloomberg.

Your efforts to devastate your political adversary for personal gain hurt who knows how many of your own taxpayers by your destruction. We wonder how many more people may have been served??

Nevertheless they are a pretty resilient group gotta give 'em that.

It works great, they have 5 unions to complain about instead of just one.

Suburbs get great bosses like Bill Kushner and we get suckholes like Weiss and McCarthy.

Kushner is retired CPD, I had him as an instructor in the academy almost 30 years ago. He retired from here as a Lt. and had the Chief's job in Berwyn and Des Plaines among other places.

But we can't find asnyone worthy enough to run our department and have to look at castoffs from other departments. Kushner would be great as the supe here but not for the likes of Daley and Emanuel. No need for good bosses here.

Just heard that Mayor DOOMBERG won't accept food donations at the homeless shelters because the "food police" can't check on the content of all the bad shit in the food that most everyone would love to have during a situation like this. UREAL!! Nice job Mr Mayor and a little shot to the 1st Lady; I'll use that term loosely, who want to tell all what they should eat,drink,drive..ETC. What are we coming to!!!

I just went through my closets and those big storage boxes up in the attic. Three almost new coats, two jackets, hats and gloves, a few blouses (yes, female, retired, here), a couple of sweaters, two new purses, a couple of tote bags and a couple of pair of brand new shoes still in the boxes...are al headed for New York PD. Before it goes, there'll be a stop at Home Depot for trash bags and cleaning supplies. I'll pick up a cordless drill/screwdriver and throw it in, along with some boxes of Christmas lights, too (we all need a little joy, and the electricity might even be back on by the time the lights arrive there).

While I sorted through my own closets for things nice enough to send, I realized how MUCH STUFF we all really have, that we don't use or appreciate. If we all put ourselves in the shoes of our brethren in New York who've lost everything, I think most of us can afford to be pretty generous in our donations.

First thing I would want is propane camp stove -- just a little single-burner, and some 15 oz tanks -- to heat canned food, water for instant coffee, etc. Then small LED lights, last a long time on limited batteries.

Then blankets, plastic, clothing to stay warm and dry. Then TP, wet wipes, etc. to stay clean. No joke.

Overall I hear that they are picking up the pace on getting power restored, but there are still 175,000 RESIDENCES TOO BADLY DAMAGED TO "ACCEPT POWER." A lot of people, especially elderly, are going to be "hanging on" in such damaged places as best they can.

This is a huge disaster, and whatever we're doing we should be doing it more.

SOME areas. You can guess which ones. Other areas like in the 'jets they were s__ting in the hallways after a day or so and the buildings are "uninhabitable" now, as Bloomberg delicately puts it.

There was also plenty of looting, etc. "The usual suspects."
