Is someone counting strawberries at 35th St? More importantly, is someone at City Hall gauging the feelings of the bosses at the police department?

What these "bosses" did was a variation of what Dude does: talk shit after you got him dirty and he's in cuffs, the paper's done and you're walking him back to lockup. Woof after the fact when there's really no substantive repercussions on the menu.

Now there's in fighting between sgts and LTs as to who's in charge and who's running things. The sgt runs things dif then the LT when LT is off so the LT bitch at sgts but truth is the sgt is in charge when LT is Rdo so he can't say shit. Sgt needs to run It the way he deems fit. See how fast this goes south?
The problem is people become bosses on this job to make their own life easier not because they give a shit about leading men and women. the time to stand up and challenge other bosses is from the time you get promoted not the day before you retire. Once proud working police dept.depending on wherever you worked dictated the kind of "policeman" you wanted to be what the people I. Charge never understood. The department needs all Personalites from the "hard chargers" to the traffic cars to the foot beat school cars. Caps officers and administrative "cops" we as employees made our decisions what type of offithe We wanted to become. And the department worked ..for years ..and then came friendly police time and the aggressive officers were the first to get slapped. Overnight it went from going out and doing police work. To just answering calls writing reports and keeping your head down. Being a good little officer ..so the dept killed the aggressive spirit. Don't get me wrong its still in us and there are some still trying to be officers no matter how much bullshit they get for it. And the officers who have fell into bare minimum only reacted to the hand the department dealt them ..so they expect after years and years of being beaten down to now say go be aggressive or else well berate you and break you down even more ..well guess what the dept.wanted passive security robots . And not the.. thinking fast on Your feet ..problem solving officer who knows what needed to be done in his little part of the city. I haven't posted in a awhile. And my opinion doesn't mean much but I miss the days of being to come to work and decide for yourself what kind day it was going to be ...I never in my short 16 years looked down talked shit or judged another officer on the way he or she decided to do this job. Everyone should be entitled to do what suits them ..and the police department as a whole worked ..I know this is a bit long so ill wrap it up ..stop trying to build a better engine... powers that's be ..and don't complain when your version of the engine doesn't work ....still lost. .

Maybe you put the wrong date on page three...MAYBE BECAUSE THE DAMN THING ATE THE REPORT HALF THROUGH and this is the FIFTH TIME YOU WROTE THE SAME REPORT for crissakes. Anyway, that's my fantasy. This trend will continue because the 1st district is extremely understaffed. Six years ago more and more robberies, shootings, burglaries, etc... started happening in the 1st and 18h districts. Did Jarmusz get dumped? or promoted to a useless executive officer position making the same salary with no responsibility? Might be time for the accountability people (and the unions) to look at the size of our exempt staff (where no one ever loses pay or pension for being "dumped")as compared to rank and file #'s. I seem to remember that if the organization shrinks, so should the bureaucracy. There are a lot of people ( meritorious their entire career) who are going to collect a pension of over 123,000 a year. A little (lot) fat trimming is needed around here.....
It's easy to Mother F*%* everyone as you are heading out the door. Where is the real leadership that is willing to give up the take home, perks and simply acknowledge the Emperor has no clothes? Going back to Lieutenant from Gold Star is a leap that nobody in the Command Staff is willing to take without one hell of a parachute. The parachute used to be clout, but today many of the politicians are also afraid. In a couple of days one of our former Governors will be at the Halfway House on Jackson; that is living proof of what can happen if you get caught.

It is rumored that Commander Dave walked to the end of Navy Pier after learning of his fate. Having contemplated his 40 years on the CPD, he felt disgust, anger, emabarassment and then acceptance. Dave then threw his Gold Star into Lake Michigan and watched as it skipped six times until it sank to the bottom and finally lay next to also once proud fighter planes from World War 2. He then met the Supt and told him to F' off as all of the current brass kept their heads down at their desks so not to let the boss know what they had just witnessed. For the current brass knew if they even acknowledged for one moment that someone challenged the Supt this iwould also be their fate.
Being a Police Officer is a different kind of job. They ask you to put yourself in harms way: to stop that group of gangbangers, to walk into that holdup alarm, to run TO the sound of gun fire. You have to WANT to do that.
You don't want to work for someone you don't respect. You don't want to work for someone who flies off the handle in profanity laced tirades. You don't want to work for someone who continuously plays the game of "I'm smarter than you" even when he is dead wrong. You don't want to work for someone who's off duty drunken antics and train wreck family situation make him look less than honorable.
How do you respect a guy like that? Well, you don't. All that lack of respect trickles down to the rank and file. You want to know why the Department is ineffective? Look at the manager.
On the Department we expect a little politics, but he's made some horrible police decisions. He won't backtrack even though he knows he should. He can't admit them, or his narcissistic personality makes him blind.
Maybe the Country needs him for some Federal position and he will just have to take it for the good of the Nation. Isn't that what we always do, promote a problem away?

There is a reason why the military considers such things as " time in grade". If you look at most " special Merit people" when they jump certain commands it is usually a disaster. Jarmusz was also pissed that the brass is considering moving MTU to new digs. They want to move them to the old 009th District at 35th and Lowe. That building was condemned a long time ago. No facilities for females, shitty lockrooms, and even shittier bathrooms, pardon my pun.

Garry has lots of experience. Only 4 yrs on the streets, then 4 yrs as a house mouse sgt, then 4 yrs as a Lt, then 4 yrs as a Capt then 4 yrs as an inspector. Lots of more experience getting drunk, belittling people, being one way, cheating on his wife, hitting on all female police officers, patting himself on the back, putting his face in a camera - any camera, shooting street lights out, muther fucking on duty officers trying to do there jobs, flexing muscles over football and rugby, coming up with ridiculous ways of policing, thwarting numbers and bringing with him the failure compstat. Im sure I missed a bunch but my fingers are getting tired of typing. ^Oh yeah, Dave is a good guy and a good boss. Loves the job and anybody that works. If you dont like him that probably means you're not a hard charger or like to sit on jobs, in the hole and on your hands.

Totally agree that Sgts should not be DSS. The other Sgts do there own thing when another Sgt is DSS and run the scam. Come in late, go home after a few hours leaving one Sgt to cover on the street. We are out here with no supervision which is a bad thing for some. Not that I need supervision but it would be nice to know someone is out there that has my back! Anytime I need to go home early a slip is taken from me. Are all those Sgts slips put in? Doubt it! I can't wait for swiping believe it or not. I have never gotten any benefits and have always done 8 for 8.

A sgt who has time on in patrol can run watch as good if not better than someone of higher rank who is more removed from the needs and wants of day to day patrol operations.

Maybe you put the wrong date on page three...MAYBE BECAUSE THE DAMN THING ATE THE REPORT HALF THROUGH and this is the FIFTH TIME YOU WROTE THE SAME REPORT for crissakes. Anyway, that's my fantasy. I was working special the other day and we were talking about the same thing, Sgt.s as DSS and Lt.'s not liking what the Sgt.s do and then throw in the XO.....then I was told by a copper that there is supposedly a new rank/position for XO's called the "Operations Officer for District Law Enforcement", they got one in a north side district, supposedly they had a Capt. as the XO but now this XO is the District Operatons Officer which sounded like a replacement for the DC since I was told that this position covers everything a DC is supposed to do......What you hear SCC?

Agreed. We have MS Office 2003. Only TEN years old. IT people said we are going to have it for a lot longer. Love when copy machine nearly rips your original Lineup Advisory Form nearly in half, or when you go to print something you have to check 5 different printers to see where it comes out.
Not to mention printers are either super light due to low ink, or they're out of paper and the paper is locked up. So you have to take paper from one printer to put some in another.
The dept. doesn't care that there are some computer-savvy people who could really use a newer version of Excel or Access to keep track of reports, etc (talking about D unit). They just don't give a fuck.
And oh yeah, as an RBT det., I had 416 cases last year. Ridiculous. McIdiot said we'd only have 150 each. Talk about another wrong projection! This year I'm already above what I had assigned last year. Can we say 500????
Don't oyu guys know that after a Comstat meeting, Mc Drunk and his chief of staff go back to his office and grab a bottle of scotch and laugh at who ever they belittled and take bets. They also laugh and say look at those big pussy chicago guys.

He often turned routine traffic jobs into 10-1s with his mouth. He cared only about his career. He never took an interest in any 009 officers that were injured on the job. After all, they couldn't make him look good with some FCs. He complained, but never complimented. Just like McDoofus. Now, having said that, while McShootemup was shooting out street lights in NY, Mush was shooting gang bangers. McSelfpromotion couldn't carry Mush's duffel bag as a police officer. Ah, the irony of it all.
Exempt personnel would probably stand up against the tyranny of McNumbNuts more if their retirement benefits were calculated at their career service rank salaries rather than their inflated exempt saleries.

With less and less of us, with more and more layers of responsibility (read: micromanagement) the department should really be streamlining everything to make us more efficient. We are our own worst enemy. JFed was great. Carbine program, relaxed uniform standards, transparency on the merit names, cr number being cleared, fighting back on the lawsuits. Yes the Cozzi think was bad but he did help Menetti when he was arrested in Iowa and gave him back his job. He streamlined the bogus CR numbers and cleared more CR numbers and put the coppers back on the street from callback, more then any other Supt. Say what you want but the truth is the truth. Now go ahead and rip me to shreds for speaking the truth against this clown we have now.

I am not the original poster but I got a college education and not one of those pretend diplomas from a phony baloney University. I did it for me, not the department, I majored in something I was interested in and I am using now into retirement. It's my education, the Department just helped pay for it. You have to do it for yourself, get the best education you can for you will be better for it.
The Department doesn't care if you take basket-weaving classes, if you don't have the clout you ain't going anywhere anyhow.
Hey that bathroom in the basement of 009 would be one Costanza would be proud of. A hidden gem. Now the guys who had their lockers in there? That's another story.
OSHA would have a field day if they had to inspect the old 009 Dist. The lockers in the shithouse was wrong on so many levels.
Then you have the lockers in the old range where lead levels are still sky high... the list goes on and on.
