Retired Lt. Shoots Burglars

  • The retired Chicago Police officer who defended his Pottawattomie Park home from two burglars spoke out Wednesday to thank the Michigan City Police officers for their professional response and to talk about the aftermath of the shooting incident.

Edward Flynn, who lives in the 100 block of Pontiac Street, said he and his girlfriend were returning home in separate cars from Al’s Supermarket at about 8 p.m. Friday when his girlfriend entered the home through the front door and immediately left, saying there was someone inside the home.

  • According to the police reports, Flynn shot the suspects with a .38 special revolver as the two suspects advanced towards him while he was pointing a firearm at them inside the home.

Flynn said the two were coming out of a dark area and “I wanted them to cooperate with my instructions, but they didn’t.”
Somehow, the lamestream media isn't covering how having a gun protected two people. Hmmmm.

Very well done Lieutenant. We hope retirement is still treating you well.

Kudos to Lt. Ed Flynn.

This is what Chicago desperately needs. Trained, law-abiding FOID card holders to light up some of these vicious predators. Who can argue that the violent mutts would be less inclined to prey on good people if they realized that a seemingly helpless victim can put them in the morgue?

It's common sense. In this FUBAR city, common sense is very uncommon because of the rat politicians.

Let's stop calling them liberals, or progressives or any other code word they're using now. They are socialists or communists. They know it and we know it.

The communist agenda to disarm Americans and destroy the Constitution is a real threat to freedom and liberty and it needs to be called out before it's too late.

If these mutts survive, their kin won't have to travel far to visit them in the Indiana State Penitentiary at Michigan City where they execute their condemned murderers.

God bless Lt. Flynn and his girlfriend for refusing to be victims of these scumbags.

When I retire and want to remain only an hour's drive east from the Chicago city limits, Indiana is looking awful nice.

QUESTION. If home prices are identical and you want to escape from Illinois, would it be best to live in Berrien Co., Michigan, Laporte Co., Indiana or southeastern Wisconsin?

Was he able to send 'em to the morgue with just a 38?

There was a much-celebrated case down in Florida recently, where a mother of two, who had fled with her children into an attic crawlspace, was able to a put about five or six rounds from a 38, into an Obama voter, at more-or-less point-blank range, yet the Obama voter was able to slither away on his own two feet and make it to a hospital.

Bottom Line: In the impending collapse of civilized society [coming soon to a neighborhood near you], folks need to be thinking about something more like a 44 Magnum or a 50 S&W.

Or, better yet, a 12-gauge, with some of those 1600 fps 00-magnum rounds from Hornady.

From the link: "As for the burglary and shooting incident here, Flynn could not comment on whether he was hoping to only incapacitate the burglars in the shooting. He did say, 'If I could have hoped for something, I would hope that they would have never come into my home in the first place.'”

How grotesquely stupid is the person who even asked that question? You don't use deadly force "...hoping to only incapacitate the (insert appropriate criminal here) in the shooting." The LT(Ret.) answered correctly, might want to upgun to a .357Mag, though.

OT-to active and retired police officers, and everyone else, who covered a beat that included Division Street in the area populated by streets that began with the letter K. In the 60s, I worked for Steward Warner Electronics on 1700 N. Kostner. We use to go to a pizza place for lunch and also to buy pizzas. It was a tavern on the corner of the block on Division Street and one of the K streets, whose name I can't remember. Anyway, the tavern was called Al's Tap and Pizzeria. It was a tavern in the front of the place, and within view of the bar section you could see in the back that they had some tables and a chalk board on the wall listing a menu of foods they served at lunch. Does anyone remember this place, or the name of the owner, or if family members eventually went on to open another bar and/or pizzia place? They had the b-e-s-t pizza ever..haven't been able to find anything like it, and that was over 45 years ago. Can anyone help?

Some of our non-cop readers may be unaware of the fact that retired cops can carry firearms anywhere in the U.S. If they retire in good standing and qualify once a year. This law, HB 218 was signed by President G.W. Bush following 9/11 to put more armed and qualified first responders on the street. Also, prior to this federal law, the Daley Administration did everything possible to keep retired cops from having concealed carry. Upon your retirement they would send you a letter telling you that you were no longer the police and could no longer carry a firearm, and if you did you would be arrested. When HB 218 was passed, initially Daley tried to exempt CPD retirees, but it did not work. Also note, that Indiana is a Right to Carry state anyway. Great Shooting Lt., and note that one of the offenders has a bullet in his lung, it is inoperable, so he can spend the rest of his life with only one lung. A very happy ending.

Indiana taxes all retirement income and the individual counties also take a small percentage at varying rates. Michigan does not tax all retirement but does tax some. Not certain the ins and outs without doing the research which you could also do. Illinois is the best on that front but I don't expect that to last. Indiana is probably cheaper prices in general.

No, the name of the place I'm referring to is Al's Tap and Pizzeria. I know it is no longer in business because I can't find them listed anywhere. I was hoping someone might have remembered this place during the 60s..they must have been at this location prior to that time, I'm sure. This place was definitely on the corner of Division Street and another street name beginning with the letter K, in the K section of streets. From what I can see on google, many buildings have been torn down and new construction built in their places, making my search hopeless.
Thanks for replying...doubt I'll find what I'm looking for.

St. Philomenas'a an Italian neighborhood? Ha! Hermosa was an Austrian settlement with most families corming from the small farming community of Hannersdorf, near the Hungarian border in southwest Austria in the Burgenland region. The closest Italian neighborhood was Our Lady of the Angels. Everyones father worked at Schwinn except for mine who worked at Fillmore! Al's moved out and went out west-no, not to 015, somewhere near Addison or thereabouts. And by the late Fifties the area was as cosmopolitan an area as one could find anywhere. And there were NO racial and ethnic issues that I remember. Have fun at Al's.

Thank you for all of the info! Many Italians moved to Bloomingdale and Addison. How I'm going to find Al's family and find out if they are in the pizza business today is a challenge I'm up to, and now to find a hook. I could contact the Catholic Churches in each suburb & hope I can post a message in their Church Bulletin, which I doubt, but it's worth a try. We had great memories of Al's pizza, and now let's see what I can find out! Again, thank you, officer, for fleshing out more of the story.
