Three Out of Four Isn't Bad

  • A quick response by a sergeant early today led to the arrest of three men accused of robbing a man as he was hailing a cab in the Lakeview neighborhood on the North Side, police said.

A fourth suspect managed to escape after fighting with the responding sergeant, who was left with cuts and bruises but declined hospital treatment.

  • The three and an unidentified accomplice approached a man and began hitting him until he fell to the ground at about 12:45 a.m. as the victim was trying to hail a cab on Sheffield Avenue near Belmont Avenue, the release stated.

One of the suspects then reached into the victim’s pocket and removed a cell phone and other property, but they fled when confronted by a bystander, according to the release.

A Belmont District police sergeant searched the area and found the four suspects a short distance away from where the robbery occurred.
Belmont District? Isn't that the old 019? The "closed" 019?

Nice job sarge and heal up quick.

This is pretty awesome...as a (former) Lakeview resident who moved out after the problems started happening back in May 2011, I am glad that the city has now started the "Entertainment Detail" which is boosting the patrol presence in that area at night. As a civilian who has never served in the police, I want to say "Thank you" to all the police out there. Stay safe.

The "Belmont" District no longer exists. The liberal media has it wrong, AGAIN.

ASSHOLE MEDIA: the district that you MEANT to refer to is the Town Hall District. You know...the district that The Flaming Tutu combined with the now-defunct (and former) Belmont district, which now has fewer Police Officers than it previously had before it was combined.

Funny thing is that the area around The Flaming Tutu's residence has quite a few dedicated Police Officers (which are armed, inspire of nine-and-half's squaks against guns!!) guarding him and his spawn.

Funny. Not "ha ha" funny, though.

Yeap the same 019 District where Manpower is steadily declining through retirements, tranfers and promotions!

Now the assholes know we are short out there on the streets, covering what was two Police Districts!

Here is an idea! Hire More Police! Such a simple concept!

Good old fashion police work. The sgt wasn't doing contact cards, the sgt wasn't writing ANOVs, the sgt wasn't telling his sector to write more parkers, or movers.

Looks like he TOOK POLICE ACTION and ARRESTED some OFFENDERS. But that does not matter in this day and age. This arrest of 3 violent african american offenders who live in other areas of the city, and outside of the city will cost the city time, money and luckily the sgt did not go IOD with would have cost the city more money.

Now go write me some ANOVs so when they don't pay we can arrest them later.

Police work is dead in this city.

NIce job sgt, I am just joking!!!

This is very true 019 is way understaffed. Since the merge 019 has lost nearly 60 patrolmen and not 1 has been added. Headquarters needs to send some young coppers to 019. The lowest senority police officers in 019 is 5 years on the job. Way too many oldtimers in 019.

If, by 'here', you're referring to the quoted, and linked, tribune article, then you should take your snark over to the linked article's comment board.

If, by 'was there', you're confessing to being the fourth offender, by all means, please tell us how it really was; you know, the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.

If, by 'heard it all now', you're claiming that there is, now, nothing more for you to hear, you're one third of the way to being the 'see-no-evil, hear-no-evil, speak-no-evil' monkey.

And if, by 'seriously?', you're questioning the veracity of the writer(s) of said tribune article, ie., the ever popular 'staff report' posse, surely you jest?

To the former Lakeview resident, for your information the "Entertainment Detail" starts working at 5am just after all the midnight officers are finished cleaning up the shit from overnight. Just a bunch of smoke and mirrors and 1 less Sgt. and 4 more Police officers off of beat cars and in hiding spots. If they wanted to do it right they would start them at 11pm or midnight and put somebody on it that works and would really help us out. They have Officers assigned to 3rd watch working days which is a clear contract violation and our unit rep looks the other way. We need beat and response cars up and all they do is create another detail (hiding spot)The funny thing is the supervisors know how long your on a job or lunch but to stupid to see what is right in front of their eyes whats wrong. They keep making more foot posts in uptown and when there is a job right on the corner the foot person is assigned what do they do but give the job to the beat car. 019 a BIG JOKE just getting bigger

Unfortunately the "entertainment detail" is made up of officers that are already from that district. There are no officers being added to the district to cover the biggest entertainment area in the city. Between retirements, transfers out, and promotions the new 019 Town Hall is down about 50 officers since the merger.

The 19th district is way understaffed. We have lost about 60 officers since the merger. We have to cover more territory with less officers. Don't let the "we merged two districts into one" fool you. They also doubled the amount of area we need to cover but at the same time manpower has decreased via retirement and people bidding out of the district. In 2013 about 20 officers are going to retire, plus Lord knows how many will bid out.

Sounds pretty bad in 019, shortage of manpower and all the crime. Lord knows how many will bid out and it will give everyone a chance to bid to 011 or 007 where there are plenty of police. Shouldnt take much seniority either

If they have 3rd watch officer working days and you want days, file a grievance. There is no way the watch situation will be allowed if a grievance is filed

When THESE people start running for the exits, we predict McStupid will be conducting his Compstat beatdowns in the janitor's closet with room to spare...

He'll be an even bigger babbling maniac than he is now.

Even people short on age are fleeing...

Rahm purposely turned the job to shit to reduce head-count and balance the budget through CPD attrition but it worked TOO well.

The little birdies say pre-retirement seminars for 2013 are filling up fast.

Over 6000 retirements since Y2K...
Less than 1000 hires in the same time frame?

McCarthy and Tutu have sold the tax payers a bullshit bill of goods regarding Police manpower.

A couple of years ago the deputy chief in what used to be called Area 3 put up a midnight tactical team to help all four districts and also used them as an "entertainment team" on weekends. Their hours were 2200-0630 (before the 4 + 2"s). It worked great until the Chief of Patrol (who is still a chief) ordered him to take it down for some unknown reason. You're right ... and entertainment team in Wrigleyville should be working 1st watch only.

Man you must really be desperate to complain. Your in 19, probably never worked in a busy district. Probably pissed off that you were not chosen for one of those teams. You probably had daddy get you into 19 and now your clout is gone. Does that ring a bell.

Not to detract anything from the sergeant's good work but finding M1 offenders running around in a deserted predominantly white area around 1 in the morning is like shooting fish in da barrel, no? The hardest part of this is coaxing the lazy midnight coppers to come out of their holes for this nonsense.
