Out in a Blaze

  • BIG BEAR, Calif. — A man police think is the fugitive ex-Los Angeles officer wanted in three killings was barricaded inside a burning cabin Tuesday after a shootout in a California mountain town that left one deputy dead and another wounded.

The developments raised the possibility that the nearly week-old hunt for America’s most wanted man might be coming to an end.

Unfortunately, he managed to kill another LEO before being driven into the cabin that has since burned. Thoughts and prayers to all California Law Enforcement after the past week of this nightmare.

My prayers go to the families of the officers hurt and killed. The only good thing I can see coming out of this is that California won't have to pay for this asswipe to sit in jail for the next 40 years on appeal after appeal. God forgive me but If he is dead, good riddance.

Great escape plan dumbfuck. Leave it to the uninformed media to make this guy out to be Rambo when he had no more skill than any other person who went through a police academy and basic military training. He was a substandard recruit who couldn't cut it so he blamed everyone but himself. RIP to the officers and innocent victims this asshole senselessly killed. What would you expect them to do? He's already killed four people. Why would they want anyone else killed?

He had the opportunity to get out, but he went down with the cabin.

Dont agree with Dorners rampage against innocents, but the fact remains that hundreds of coppers in L.A. (and in Chicago) have had their careers ruined by unfair administrative disciplinary hearings. In contract talks, the FOP concentrates on issues like wages and pensions while totally ignoring disciplinary issues. For example, the Chicago Police Board members deciding if you should be fired dont even have to attend the hearing, just rely on the Hearing Officer's (aka City's lackey's)recommendation.

I wonder how many time this scenario has played out. PPO gets a new FTO and sees a display of force he thinks is excessive. Reports it, and gets shut down by the culture of the system. However, I think this guy may have displayed some other quirky personality traits and they used this to get him fired....
RIP Officers....Dorner, you were never a police officer.
The early media reported that a single shot rang out before the fire. Case closed for me. We all knew this would end like this....

Honestly I could care less if they burned down the cabin on purpose (which I have a hard time believing they did) This animal was a tremendous threat. Not only to LE but the general public and needed to be put down by any means. LAPD cover-up regarding his termination from the job?? Who cares..he was a delusional bitter asshole with a grudge. A lot of people are treated unfairly and discriminated against..grow the fuck up and deal with it like a human being. Not kill innocent people. I only hope he felt every lick of flame and suffered immensely before going to hell to burn for eternity. God bless the fallen officers and their families and the two innocent citizens who also lost their lives. And the entire LE community who suffered as a result of this animal.

Just goes to show how dangerous it is being a police officer. In the blink of an eye your family can lose you. It's sad that the politicians and most of the public could care less. The media goes out of their way to paint us as evil. Does anyone think that during Rahm's attact on us during contract negotiations the media will tell a good story about law enforcement? Hell no! RIP to the fallen. God Bless You!

What is wrong with burning the cabin down around him? Is the use of deadly force limited to only a firearm? No, deadly force is deadly force, it can be a gun fired at you or it can be a building burning to the ground with you inside. This guy was barricaded inside and firing at Officers on the perimeter, setting the cabin on fire was a sound tactic. Once it's burning he has only two choices, come out and either surrender or die, or he stays in the cabin and burns. Either way this ends without anyone else needing to die but the psycho pos that started it. If you ask me burning the cabin was the smartest thing they did, it can always be re-built.

I'd bet that the fire was started by the police, but not intentionally. They probably lobbed a few tear gas canisters in the cabin which started the blaze. Probably started the carpets on fire. Not intentional, but one of the dangers of using tear gas indoors. They could have tried tear gas ferret shells but those things don't work very well. Oh well, good riddance to this egomaniac and his delusions of grandeur.

How you act when things are bad is the true measure of character.

Dorner deserved to die AFTER a trial by jury, not after a trial by LEO's.

It was cold, he wouldn't have lasted long with the power turned off and the windows shot out. Maybe he would have decided to eat his bullet under those conditions but it would have been above board.

Dorner chose the circumstances of his death. He could have surrendered at any time, but chose to continue his killing spree. You are not a cop and you know nothing about police tactics therefore don't attempt to Monday morning quarterback the situation. The world became a better place the second Dorner died. As for you losing respect for some of the posters, get off your high horse most people who read and use the blog could care less what a liberal goof who knows nothing about police work or the real world thinks. Because when several LEO's have already been killed and shots are whizzing past my ear I am really concerned with the welfare of the guy trying to put a 50 cal. round in my forehead.

No, it doesn't work that way, you shoot back like you are trained and shoot to kill. If he comes out with hands raised high then you are obligated to take him alive. Dorner never ever indicated any desire to be taken alive. His wish was granted.

He put a round in his own head it looks like.

Monday morning quarterbacking by someone who never strapped on a gunbelt or wore a badge or had to take a suspect into custody while the guy was hiding a gun behind his back.

I know a veteran PO who was shot at, inside his squad car, by the piss bum in the back seat who was handcuffed behind his back and had a gun hidden inside his multiple layers of pants.

What to do? Yell, "Stop in the name of the law, I command you to drop that weapon or you could be sentenced to a considerable period of time in a state penitentiary."

Ot shoot back and kill the prick? The veteran did what I would have done, he and his partner opened up on the guy shooting at them and killed his miserable worthless ass. And you know what? It was a job well done, no police officer or innocent citizen was injured.
