We're all for justice - but this is kind of ridiculous:
- Two suspects in the high-profile fatal shooting of Hadiya Pendleton pleaded not guilty today to dozens of counts of first-degree murder, attempted murder and other charges.
Michael Ward, the alleged shooter, was indicted on 141 counts of first-degree murder alone, prompting his attorney to blast Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez.
"I want to ask (Alvarez): 'Why are you doing this?' " said Jeff Granich, Ward’s lawyer. "It's ridiculous and stupid. It's an extremely cheap way of getting attention. It's a waste of paper.
"It's a stunt," he said.
It certainly is, and it might point to underlying weaknesses in the case itself, so they indict everything they can think of and hope the jury gives them something. Just remember - Anita Alvarez.....not the Chicago Police Department.

If Hadiya wasn't the poster child for gun control along with the Newtown massacre this would be a continuing investigation until a video of the shooting was found along with eyewitnesses.

Prosecutors need to charge every possible criminal charge or they can not present evidence of that charge at trial even if they obtain the evidence after indictment. Shortly before trial the prosecution will drop all but a dozen of these charges.
No matter how many newspaper articles you read, you don't know more about murder prosecutions than they do.
I heard they also charged them with starting the Chicago Fire, Nazi war crimes, and the St Valentines Day Massacre.

OK, so they charged him with 141 counts. They have to MAKE UP 141 reasons to be brought to the jury.
The jury will be so frustrated hearing 141 versions of the story and will find him NOT GUILTY, just to go home.
The dicks will have to spend all this time, away from getting more cases solved.
If he's found NOT GUILTY, all charges will be gone, and he cannot be tried for DOUBLE JEOPARDY, and he's a free man like O.J. They could have saved some charges for a second trial if necessary.
The MOST that he can get is 141 life sentences. Thanks to the governor, he CANNOT face the death penalty. We will support him for his next 140 lives.

This happens in every shooting with multiple victims. Don't be so quick to side with a scumbag defense attorney. The ASAs didn't announce this at a press conference, the defense did.
Prosecutors need to charge every possible criminal charge or they can not present evidence of that charge at trial even if they obtain the evidence after indictment. Shortly before trial the prosecution will drop all but a dozen of these charges.
No matter how many newspaper articles you read, you don't know more about murder prosecutions than they do.
