Walk to Your Calls
The car situation has devolved to this:
- Our XO in 011, RB, has completely lost it. Tonight as midnight cars were coming on, the dispatcher tried to give 1133R a job. 1133R replied that they were waiting for a car. (We literally don't have enough cars for midnights since all are being used by 3rd watch and we are down so many cars without replacements). 1100x then got on the air and ordered that 1133R walk from the station to their call, and that he was going to meet them there. This is one day after 1100x came into the 3rd watch roll early roll call and berated all of the officers for not writing enough contact cards. He told the cars they were pathetic and embarrassing. He then said that everyone better shape up or we would lose our Commander. Before storming out, he said that he was going to find out who was attempting to improve on contact cards and who wasn't and would deal with the situation accordingly. Arrests don't mean shit anymore. Neither do contact cards if they are off your beat.
011 used to be a great place to work. Things have now gotten so out of control, it's comical.
We don't know about the XO, but we have a bunch of stuff in our car we like to have wen we hit the streets. Reports, in case the AIRA system is down, complaints in case an arrest is made, Victim Info Notices so we aren't tying down another car bringing us paperwork, ticket books, especially ANOV books in case a citation has to be issued at the call - unless 1100X is bringing all that with him?
We hope everyone was careful walking to the call. We've heard the sidewalks in that part of town don't seem to get shoveled with any sort of regularity. That must be why everyone walks in the streets? And the streets? Potholes galore! You could twist an ankle walking to a call.
If the XO is so hell bent on Contact Cards, we'd hate to see those numbers drop.
You know what is really pathetic and embarrassing? Supervision by humiliation. Or at least Attempted Supervision.

Well, well, well. Third watch, second watch and whatever watch you are on, TOTALLY sucks in 011 now. Seems all the bozo bosses want us to write contact cards so we can keep the commander. He may be a nice guy to some degree ,but I really don't care. I can't get time due, I get berated at roll call, I don't have a car. The car I do get has 175k on it.
The second watch DSS is a total bozo himself and I really don't care what they say. I answer my calls and If I come in with 2 parkers one CTA check and a mover here and there you idiots cant do shit to me or my fellow workers.
If you could take care of the employees in a better professional way maybe we can give you your bullshit contact cards so you can look good in the compstat meetings. I really don't care if we have Henny Penny or Washington, neither take care of us anyways.
Department is sinking to new lows everyday. We should all just answer our calls and come in with 3 CTA bus checks, what gen order says X amount of contact cards are supposed to be written and only on your beat.

Make you do standup roll call everyday? Be on time and prepared to go thru the motions. Stand up roll calls and weapons inspections take time. And chances are that our bud DSS JA will still be sound asleep at home 2-3 hours after roll call ends. More time there means less time on the street, and that'll only last so long before they get called out for it. Then find that late arrest otw in a couple times a week and be sure they sign that OT slip.
Gonna get called in and chastised for "lack of activity or initiative"? Kindly ask the requesting white shirt to put their demands/requests/quotas/"indices" (HA!) in writing. Try to have at least one witness present or within earshot for future deposition(s).

They did end up going after third watch heard and came in to give them keys so they didn't have to walk. They were not being dogs. They literally had no car until third watch came in.

As a det., I don't understand why people you stop to contact card don't just refuse to give you any info. Or give you the wrong info. Come in with 10 contact cards that say 'refused', or enter them, or however you do them. Since when do people have to identify themselves for walking down the street?
So you stop some mutt, he tells you his name and nickname. Next day he gets stopped again, he gives a different name and nickname, address, whatever.
How reliable does McFlipFlop think the information on these contact cards is?
Most people have smart phones. Dictate what you do into your phone or keep a log of your daily activities. No reason other than to answer your calls and back each other up. But the tac and mission teams are falling all over themselves trying to bring in heads!

We can get told to go out on foot patrol, there is nothing legally or contractually that says we have to be given a car to go to our jobs. The only reason we all have cars was because they wanted to hire less coppers back in that day and wanted to increase response time, so every beat got a car. If foot routes remained they would have to reduce the size of each beat, increase the number of beats and then staff each beat with a guy or two to walk it. But, if you get told to walk to your assignment, then walk to your assignment. Dress for the weather, have the equipment you need, flashlight, asp, pen and notepad, then go wear out that shoe leather. when you arrive at the assignment as timely as possible, get the RD# from the zone, and walk back into the station to do the report on the computer. Then, clear, start walking toward your beat and wait for your next assignment and head to it. None of the threatened lawsuits will hold up, and most wouldn't even be entertained by a reputable attorney who wasn’t going to just take your money and bill you for his time. An eeoc beef or protected class discrimination claim may be cause to sue, but most of the crap coming from some of the shitty bosses is just a hindrance. And don't lump all the bosses into the jagoff category, we do have some good ones too.

Well I don't know how long this has been going on in 011. But in 010 our quadrupled merit hack appointed commander MP has had recently went into the 2nd watch roll call and started fucking with the. Old timers telling them their activity isucks and that they better bring it up or that they are going to lose their start times and their cars. And that they should be ashamed of what they bring in.
Then about a month ago the merit hack Commander MP addressed all 3 afternoon roll calls. For the early start she told them to keep up the good work that she is glad and the superintendent is proud of all the activity and hard work you are doing. Then the merit hack addresses the late roll call stating the same thing great job keep bringing the activity in blah blah blah. Oh yeah if your rapid shadow car is not holding their end of the bargain up you go tell your sergeant and they will have a talk with them. Now the best roll call happened to the rapid roll call. That merit hack comes into roll call and tells the officers this is it I am splitting you guys, i am taking you off your cars and your start time. you guys aren't bringing enough activity in. I am tired of getting yelled at at compost meetings. You should be embarrassed to be Chicago Policemen. You have a good paying job and that you should be embarrassed to wear the uniform. If you don't like it bid out. You don't want to bring activity in I will put you as a personal concern in the district. I am now going to put you with who I want you to work with when I want you to work and what car you will work.
010 used to be a great place to work we have great bosses except for the few. But in general it used to be a great place to work until that merit hack Pena came here. Shehas her chosen sergeant 1065 and his team who are fucking the numbers up big time by bringing in nothing but bullshit arrests dopw reckless disorderly etc. quantity not quality. The only thing I disagree with this comment is the use of "Boss". That's a term of respect on the CPD only used when a leader, not a supervisor is present. I always address assH*&#s by their rank and reserve the term "Boss" for someone who has earned my full attention. Captain Bay lost my respect years ago. I assume he has acquired Lt. Andrews disease - Plateauing in rank with an acute case of career desperation.
The new zone consoles cannot read who has what radio numbers now.

I worked with Riger in 014 back over 20 yrs ago. Nice guy, straight as am arrow and only did traffic and DUI's. In fact he was always getting honored by MADD for his DUI arrests. He always worked the 10 sector usually 1411 and strictly did traffic. He was a nice person, never Ill mannered, always pleasant but not what you would call a hard charger, always did traffic, bus checks, curfews, parkers, and answered the radio and would always help with any DUI if you needed it. However he got some clout and now it appears he is trying to make coppers be the copper he never chose to be.

We are all stuck with shit cars, or no cars until a shit car come in. We can get told to go out on foot patrol, there is nothing legally or contractually that says we have to be given a car to go to our jobs. The only reason we all have cars was because they wanted to hire less coppers back in that day and wanted to increase response time, so every beat got a car. If foot routes remained they would have to reduce the size of each beat, increase the number of beats and then staff each beat with a guy or two to walk it. But, if you get told to walk to your assignment, then walk to your assignment. Dress for the weather, have the equipment you need, flashlight, asp, pen and notepad, then go wear out that shoe leather. when you arrive at the assignment as timely as possible, get the RD# from the zone, and walk back into the station to do the report on the computer. Then, clear, start walking toward your beat and wait for your next assignment and head to it. None of the threatened lawsuits will hold up, and most wouldn't even be entertained by a reputable attorney who wasn’t going to just take your money and bill you for his time. An eeoc beef or protected class discrimination claim may be cause to sue, but most of the crap coming from some of the shitty bosses is just a hindrance. And don't lump all the bosses into the jagoff category, we do have some good ones too.

Why, is an order materially different from a direct order? No. If the boss tells you to walk to that job, you're obligated to do so. Unless it's an illegal order, which it isn't, you have an obligation to do it. Grieve it? Maybe for safety issues, but it would be a long shot.
Now, was it a doofus order? Yes, it was. Could he not have said, "Pile outta the back door and I'll be waiting out there to drove you guys"? Yes, he could have. And, he should have.
But grieve it? File suit over it? No.

Old timers telling them their activity isucks and that they better bring it up or that they are going to lose their start times and their cars. And that they should be ashamed of what they bring in.

The 1065 team looks down on the watch. They don't acknowledge anyone but their own. I have never ever heard them come on the radio to assist anyone but their own. The only time they need the watch is when they need a transport. If they don't get their way they go cry to tight shirt Olsen and he chimes up on the radio and demands a transport. There is no comradree between them and the watch they are out for themselves and the meit hack sgt and commander. I have never even seen an excellent arrest by them. Plus rules and regulations. The sgtonly let's himself write the reports. That is what is going to get them jammed up. No ne is telling them not to lock people up its te way they are dong it. Have fun in corp council. Excellent team ha Bunch of tact rejects if you ask me. Can't make it with the big boys so we just alienate the entire watch and just associate with our own
Will you cry baby's in 010 stop bitching about each other. We get it, you don't like the 3 year wonders working on the incident team/robbery team/mission team or whatever the hell they are called over there.
This complaint has happened in every district on every watch in the city, it's getting old. We get your upset they make pimply arrests and we get it you have good numbers and your not a dog, as you say. Who cares all that matters is you go home safe and receive your checks every month.
Also the tact tams do the same pimply arrests as all other teams, so don't tell me some BS about they don't compare or whatever. It's all a numbers game and it always will be. The only difference is what those numbers are (contact cards, SW, and the recent flavor of the month is CBs)

We would gladly assist you on anything you need. We also write our own case reports. Why do you spend so much time concerned about the 65 team? Good guys on tac and most dont mind us of course there are exceptions.. Karma is a bitch my friend and wishing us well in corp counsel along with that other douche (whining in 010) is not cool. I sleep well at night knowing what i do is legit. Enough said.
