Why NOT Arm Bus Drivers?
- A CTA bus driver was shocked with a stun gun and robbed while at the wheel of her bus Saturday morning in the Austin neighborhood, according to authorities.
Police responded to a 911 call by another CTA bus driver that a woman driver was unconscious at the wheel of her bus. A man walking by noticed the woman slumped over her steering wheel in the 5900 block of West Jackson Boulevard and flagged down another bus to call for help, officials said.
The 40-year-old driver told police she was headed west on Jackson Boulevard when she picked a man wearing a dark mask who soon began yelling he needed to get off the bus, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer O'Brien.
The man reportedly hit the driver with a Taser several times rendering her unconscious before rummaging through her pockets and taking her money.
But we'll bet all those cameras did wonders to stop this battery/armed robbery.

Get more bus checks and do contact cards on the bus driver. See the bus drivers are all possible victims of a violent crime and keeping a data base of their information will help CPIC and Det clueless with any further crime investigations 4 sure !
I hope they catch this asshole and taser him in the nuts repeatedly. I've lived in Chicago a long time and by and large, the CTA bus drivers are nice, friendly folks. Even if they weren't - they don't deserve vicious attacks like that. I hope the CPD gives him a few stomps to the nuts so he doesn't reproduce.
Why not just stop CTA bus service through that neighborhood and tell them to walk?
Maybe they would wise up and start acting like human beings.
Some people need to be educated on what's a right and what's a privilege.
Public transportation isn't a right, it's a privilege.

Crime is down, and this whole story is a lie perpetrated by the media to generate fear in the hood.
Rumor has it the bus driver was tired because she is working part time and 12 hours a week is too hard to do. Subsequently a name check revealed her drivers license to be suspended.

Actually nothing but an armed police officer on the bus ( or armed citizen) could have stopped the robbery. But, no, if the cameras are working, the police might possibly have some leads to make an arrest. Anyone who knows better and has worked with cameras in the past knows that they do not, for the most part, prevent crime. However, they are a useful tool in making the case and finding the bad guys. They can also be used in covert surveillance and stakeouts.
Why not "transit marshals?"
like "sky marshals" like the airlines have?
I sure there is retired police would like the $ i suggested this before maybe not on EVERY bus but that's the idea the wonderful "community activists" won't be sure so might think twice

Way back when, CTA bus drivers carried money to make change for riders, but after a series of murders of drivers, exact change machines were installed on buses.
As I recall, victims had compiled and gave money to drivers, but were all murdered anyway.
Same with cab drivers, that's why partitions, supposedly bullet proof, now separate passenger from driver.
This can not be true. Our political and police leaders say there is no violent crime on public transportation therefore no need for concealed carry.
The camera couldn't be working, the city stiffed the company that installed them.
And here we've been told time and time again how cameras prevent/deter crime. It would seem that bus drivers are a particularly easy target given their seating situation and pre-occupation with driving. By comparison, train conductors are locked in a steel box and don't have to steer.

Nobody should go to their jobs and fear for their lives. What if that idiot had a gun? I agree, bus drivers should be armed---with something, in order to fight back. BUT!, if a CTA bus driver fights back, that is considered retaliation, and the bus driver who defends themself is suspended. Public transportation is the easiest form of "captive audience" I've ever seen.

Just like nobody has ever died after being tased.We all know they have universal effects on people.
There was another bus driver attack in 012 at California and Grand this afternoon.

I wouldn't want to be a bus driver. Just inches away from all the mutants and freaks on the CTA, and no legal way to protect themselves.
I say the sheriff needs to do something about this. Father Pflegar needs to do ride alongs on the hot spot bus routs.Just like that basketball game he had for the Gangbangers even Rahm had a front row seat...WTF
