Guess Who Has a Gun?
An old friend of ours does some pretty good reporting on something that most reporters won't even peek at:
- The Nation of Islam styles him its “Supreme Captain” — a potential successor to his controversial father, Minister Louis Farrakhan.
But when he’s working for the Harvey Police Department, Mustapha Farrakhan is just a regular part-time cop.
If, that is, he’s actually working for the Harvey Police Department.
Farrakhan, 52, certainly has a police badge from the crime-plagued south suburb.
He drives an unmarked Harvey Police squad car, complete with flashing police lights, and parks it outside his home at night.
And he’s been registered with the state as a gun-carrying Harvey cop since 2006.
But he hasn’t worked a single shift in more than four years, according to state records. If he’s ever made an arrest, Harvey’s police chief is unwilling to discuss it.
Janssen talked to everyone he could and the Illinois Police Standards and Training Board has opened an investigation. He also covers the bases with Harvey's shady political structure. We imagine a bit of digging by appropriate authorities would expose even more - like selling badges to part timers so they can carry guns.
It's nice to see actual investigative reporting pop up every so often. There's plenty more where that came from.

Sounds a lot like fraud, misappropriated funds, ghost patrolling. Charges....?.......
The connected carry guns have a star or permit but only to protect their ass. Maybe that's why crime is out of control?

The fact that he has a no show job isn't surprising as this is Crook county where many of the clouted and connected have such "jobs". My surpise is that he is pretending to be a cop. I thought cops were the "enemy" to the Nation of Islam?
Illinois Training and Standards Board better no fold on this one. There is a state required minimum number of hours one is supposed to server per year to remain qualified as a part time police officer.
We need to follow this one closely.
Is this the same son who hit a car on the IL or IN highway near the Casinos really tuning-up the occupant/s and then, I believe, the son took off. I rmember reading something about that and something about the son's being the head of papa Farrakahns security detail.

Many depts have sold badges in the past. Cook County used to sell badges, my grandpa had one. Donate to a campaign fund, and you get a badge.
Reminds me of the weekend warriors on the CROOK COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT back in the day. Their paychecks would go right back into Elrods golf outings and campaign funds. ....... Nothing new.

Ah yes Harvey once the crown jewel of the south suburbs, where jobs were once aplenty and industry thrived. Now the only industries thriving are prostitution and drug sales and the only jobs to be had are blow jobs. I remember shopping at Dixie Square and then the Amish moved in and ruined everything.
Same thing was done for Mike Masters when he was CPD.
And no one at CPD noted that motorcade with lights and thought... wtf? Or did the bosses tell you it was ok?

Harvey, Dixmoor and Maywood, to name a few, have been selling part time badges for years. Dixmoor is looking for new cops, full time.
Tribune Reporter Matthew Walberg wrote a nice story about the use of 'Auxiliary Police Officers.' Great story, these so called officers are given a gun and sometimes full police powers with no training other than the 40 hour gun course and are performing police duties..... Follow the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
If I did this, I'd be fired. God forbid the same holds true to this waste of oxygen pretending to be important. He is a legend in his own mind I guess, like all the other politicians. Put them out in the "real world" and they'd get beaten to death. But in the confines of the effed up reality they have been allowed to create by the liberals, he is soooooooo important. Gag. My boss, a Chicago Police Dept. employee, has a company veh., a badge, and carries a gun , and hasn't worked a single day in four years either!

Why is everyone so shocked at this? Didn't our former Chief of Staff Michael "I was a Captain in the military" Masters go out and do the same thing, acquiring his 'licensed to carry' credentials (it's rumored) from a certain SOUTH SUBURBAN PD, since he couldn't be bothered to attend enough classes at our own CPD Academy to obtain such credentials legally? Doesn't Masters have gun toting rights as the head of Homeland Security for the County? How was he sworn in as any kind of 'officer' with the Cook County Sheriff's Dept. when he's never actually ever been a police officer ANYWHERE? If you've got the whack, you can always get some schmuck to give you whatever's needed to have walk-around-with-a-gat privileges without having to deal with the day-to-day drudgery of being a real cop who has to go out and earn that right every day for decades of his life. Masters and Ray Ray are living proof of that.

Not sure about that. Thats CPD rules, not statewide. Alot of small town departments dont stop hiring at 35
Who cares if he has a gun? The NOI can easilly obtain private security/detective agency status and legally deputize many! Why are Chicago officers concerned about Harvey business? Almost everyone reading this 'wants' concealed carry to be a reality. This Man has no criminal history at all... so why would anyone be concerned? Mind your own damn business!!!

Many years back, my partner and I stopped a car directly across the street from Farrakans house on Woodlawn, as we had the 2 dudes on the trunk ,one of his bow tie wearing Assholes came across the street and demanded that we leave, stating that we were infringing on the world of Islams property, I told bow tie boy that he needed to go back to the compound because when i was finished with the street stop he was getting searched, and if he has a gun he too would go to jail, well that didn't go well, they caled the district and the W/C hit the street looking for us, he called SOS office and demanded to see us, he tried to reem us but our LT. stepped up and had words with him, Fuck these bow tie boys and if this Farakan son is blocking streets in Chicago, he has no powers here, so he can be FUCKED with too!!!!!!

Both Harvey and Dolton have been issuing " town marshal" badges for some time. I dont know how they are getting around the state law, or maybe they are not. I do understand there is some way to take the mandated state training on a part time basis. And,i wonder if you are a " marshsal" versus a police officer is make a difference. If you look at the town of Crestwood they are composed of mainly fire fighters working part time as police officers and a few former cops who work a few hours a week just so they can carry the badge and gun. And, if you have ever had any dealings with the Crestwood police department you will readily see the difference. Dont forget their last chief was never a cop but a water commissioner.

Sorry Minister, we did not mean to upset your apple cart, but there is a big difference between the powers of a security guard and a sworn police officer.Besides that, this is unethical, probably illegal and downright crappy on the part of these small town hick poice departments.
