Col. McCormick is Amused
- Three years ago, Charles and David Koch, the billionaire industrialists and supporters of libertarian causes, held a seminar of like-minded, wealthy political donors at the St. Regis Resort in Aspen, Colo. They laid out a three-pronged, 10-year strategy to shift the country toward a smaller government with less regulation and taxes.
The first two pieces of the strategy — educating grass-roots activists and influencing politics — were not surprising, given the money they have given to policy institutes and political action groups. But the third one was: media.
Other than financing a few fringe libertarian publications, the Kochs have mostly avoided media investments. Now, Koch Industries, the sprawling private company of which Charles G. Koch serves as chairman and chief executive, is exploring a bid to buy the Tribune Company’s eight regional newspapers, including The Los Angeles Times, The Chicago Tribune, The Baltimore Sun, The Orlando Sentinel and The Hartford Courant.
That sound you hear? It's the sound of thousands of liberal heads exploding at the same time. There's no problem with Warren Buffet owning dozens of papers and George Soros pretty much writing the leftist playbook, but the mere mention of libertarians owning some newspapers has sent the NY Times into a tizzy.

That's why I don't read much news or watch it for that part........
Heck the cost of owning these 8 pieces of garbage is pretty low right now.
This may be the only way to revitalize newspapers, start publishing the truth!
The success of FOX News demonstrates that the American people prefer a conservative perspective of the news. Traditional media isn’t failing because of the Internet. It is failing because of the liberal bias and outright propaganda. Who wants to pay to be lied to?
This should be a very profitable investment for them and a great service to the nation.
Wow. That will get chris Matthews pissing down his leg again. Liberal: a one word oxymoron.
If this happens I will become a lifetime member of the tribune delivery
Gee, I might be able to read a newspaper again.
Hey - might be a reason to subscribe again, even now being out of state!
If you want to read pure liberal garbage read the comments from the linked story..wow it's awful

The liberal yellow-pinkies are pooping their panties at the very idea of a firm check to the overwhelming liberal slant if not outright bias in print media.
Since the Koch brothers are reportedly warming up to doing this deal, now the yellow-pinkies are whining...
"They can't do THAT! Can they? We demand that somebody ought to do SOMETHING about them and their eeeeevil conservative/libertarian plans to influence public opinion! That ain't right!"
Yeah... we miss the Tribune of old but for our money, the last Chicago paper worth half a shit between two shoes was The Daily News.
And if they clean house, I might actually subscribe again. Remember when the Trib was a credible newspaper and not the propaganda arm of the Machine?
Err...you realize that these are the guys who want to get rid of your pensions too, right?
For all those budding "journalists" just coming out of college and thinking that you are going to change the world with your muckraking and reporting, think again: You are pawns in a bigger game.
Non starter . No one buys papers any more
I sure *hope* this comes true. While no one today can equal 'The Col' -- who IMHO was a truly great man, lover of freedom, and American Patriot to the core -- the Koch Bros may be the next best thing we have that could turn the Tribune around to once again being a 'real newspaper', or the closest thing to one in today's society.
So YES! I'd love to see this happen. For the reporting of actual facts; he wasn't a 'good boy', an 'honor student', nor was he 'turning his life around'. For new Editorials that aren't rehashed press releases from the DNC or CPUSA. And just to see all the Moonbat's heads explode :-)
Full Disclosure: I am a tad prejudiced on this matter ;-). My favorite Aunt worked her entire life for the Tribune and 'The Col', starting back in the late 1920's, early 1930's. She broke the so-called 'glass ceiling' before it even existed (invented by Femi-Nazis). The Chicago Tribune was also the ONLY Chicago newspaper that 'was allowed' in our house. I finally understood why when I was in High School :-)
I would support it for sure.Anything to get rid of liberals and dems.
I don't trust libertarians or liberals.
I trust Ethical Individuals.
I guess liberals are the only ones that can own anything.
I can foresee a large jump in sales if the Trib were to be sold to a conservative/libertian group. I would stop using it to pick up dogshit.
>>>'The Col' -- who IMHO was a truly great man, lover of freedom, and American Patriot to the core --<<<
Agreed.. The Col' built Meiggs Field... destroyed by the infamous Shortshanks Richard M. Daley.
When you find an Ethical lawmaker, let me know.

Don't be so sure - keep in mind that Stephen Chapman, currently an influential editor with the Tribune, has always billed himself as a libertarian.
He's mentioned briefly in this article:

Mars Attacks!
Yeah that damn Liberal Media, how does Rupert Murdoch survive in the Lefty land.
I might go back to my dad's time-honored tradition that I tried to maintain just because it reminded me of him and all his little habits and rituals but just couldn't stomach anymore: buying the trib every morning for my coffee and breakfast.
Now, if the Koch brothers bounce Chapman and most of the other editorial board, they'll be on to something. Internet sites like this one and Breitbart are great and all, but I miss perusing the pages.
Libertarians? We might get some truth, but mixed in with some conspiracy theories.
Better than the socialist propaganda we are subjected to now.
