What a Nice Night

Warm weather really gets the blood flowing - in the streets that is:
  • Six men have been wounded tonight and this afternoon in two separate shootings in the Englewood and Gresham neighborhoods on the South Side.

Most recently, at 8 p.m. in the 7900 block of South Peoria Street in the city's Gresham neighborhood, someone shot two men, according to police News Affairs [...].

A 23-year-old was shot in the leg and a 20-year-old was shot in the abdomen, said O'Brien.

Their conditions and further details were not available immediately.

Earllier in the Englewood neighborhood, four men were standing in the middle of the 5700 block of South Lowe Avenue in front of a residence when a lone gunman confronted them on foot and fired numerous rounds from a semi-automatic handgun hitting all four, police said.
Four-for-four in the second shooting is pretty good though.  Bad aim is keeping the count low along with better medical care.  Anyone know if shootings are keeping pace with 2012 or 2011?

Who cares? Let's leave the savages to their own herd-thinning rituals and address more important issues.

Like why Mayor FingerSlicer and the collective assholes at Fort Fellatio don't find it important enough to send some of that VRI manpower to certain sections of 008, 016 & 022. You know, to "Serve & Protect" those citizens who are actually productive, contributing members of society. Why do my tax dollars seem to fund the Blue Shirt Baby-Sitting Service exclusively in ghettos?

I know the "V" stands for "Violence", and there's more property than violent crime in my neck of the woods, so how about some manpower allocated for a "B(urglary).R.I."? Maybe a "G(raffiti).R.I."?

Whadya say, McBudBreath? Feel like changing-up the discriminatory manpower allocation practices for maybe even one summer? Assign an extra 50 coppers to each of the districts listed to combat what's quickly approaching chronic levels of property crimes?

Throwing the people truly deserving and appreciative of police service an occasional bone might work wonders to help salvage what's left of your emaciated reputation. That's if the good folks over at A & E haven't helped to completely destroy that ass.

Or are you contractually bound to the whole pandering-to-the-minorities thingy? What's that? Can't talk right now, you got Pfather Pfaker on Line 2?

Thought so. Punk.

Lousy aim along with poor shot placement is keeping the body count down. Although it seems that it's been getting a little better as the weather warms up.

We don't have last year's numbers, but this month has had:

87 shot & wounded
18 dead (15 shot & killed)

Totals for 2013:

395 shot & wounded
94 dead (77 shot & killed)

The interesting thing about shootings/killings is to address the facts as known:
- it has been unusually cold and wet
- 400-450 cops (VRI)extra are on the streets each day
- those extra cops are covering "hot spots"
- medical care in Chicago is the best when it comes to gunshots
What does it all mean? CPD is so understaffed that to maintain a status quo a large number of cops have to hired back at an astronomical amount of money. They need to be assigned in a "mobile force" to hot spots of violence throughout the city. And with the help of mother nature the animal is still in hibernation and with the care given by doctors many who should be dead are alive. The one thing not adding to the reduction in violence is the leadership ability and policing strategies of the CPD.

The below email has been sent to all sergeants on Monday!

The Illinois Fraternal Order of Police will host informational meetings for Chicago sergeants about the value and benefits of joining the Fraternal Order of Police.

Meetings are being held at three times over a two-day period to ensure each member has an opportunity to attend.

• Find out about forming an FOP lodge that is exclusive for Chicago Sergeants (not part of Chicago Lodge 7).

• Each session will answer the following questions:

• How do we change unions?

• How will current contract negotiations be impacted?

• Will the current contract remain in full force and effect?

• How can we maintain the current structure for our union?

• How will the FOP benefit Chicago Sergeants?

• Why is the FOP a good fit for Chicago Sergeants?

Some classic lines from an article about the dead 15yr old;

"I knew they were going to say gang-related," Rutledge said. "He hung out with gang members but I don't think he was part of a gang."

"He was just 15 years old," she said. "He was a smart kid, very bright. He was a comedian, he wanted to be a rapper."

"was very charming, very charismatic. When he would enter a room, his smile would radiate. He wasn't selfish, he was kind."

Only the good die in the hood I guess.

The shooting stats only reflect the number of shootings, not the number of bodies with holes in them. For example Mister G's lounge shooting in 022 last month with 7 people shot only counts for 1 shooting. Last night, 4 in 007 with holes in them is still only one shooting. In reality that is 11people shot. The citizens have no idea of the real body count of people actually shot. That is truly keeping the citizens in the dark.

Also I would be nice if we tracked how many shots fired calls we respond to with no one hit. People would really understand what a war zone Chicago has become.

1964 came and went fifty years ago.

I was here, God help me, and I saw the whole thing.

Unveil the plaque, have a ceremony, polite applause, name something after "Marcus Garvey" or "Crispus Attucks" or someone, and there were still people getting killed inside it, in front of it, in back of it, next door to it, on top of it, getting thrown right out the fifteenth floor, until they finally are tearing the same places down half a century later.

Fifty years of this s__t and worse every single day.

That's a real accomplishment when you think about it.

That has more to do with income/earning potential. The Black population is not so that it alone will sustain a working/middle class neighborhood in town. We generally have to move away and live in white or mixed neighborhoods to match income or we have to live in poor Black neighborhoods. Look at Chatham, Pill Hill, Bronzeville and every enclave in the city that housed a group of well to do and wealthy Black people...the same thing happened to those neighborhoods. You cannot fill a neighborhood with poor people of any race and not encounter the problems associated with the poor. You have decent, working elderly people on fixed incomes that live door to door with welfare abusers and those milking the system. That includes my grandparents..hardworking people that raised productive citizens (including the 1st cop in our family) and based on their income they have to live with people that do not share their values. I'm a veteran, with two degrees from a REAL college, married with a few kids, and living in a poor suburb because that's what we were able to afford when I was in grad school. I'm not making enough yet to move us far away from here, so we can get out the hood but not very far from it...and I'm a conservative, church involved, homebody, married guy. I've always listened to rap but I also grew up learning lite rock, blues, jazz, traditional hymns etc etc. Basically, I'm not even close to any stereotype of where I live but it's what I can afford.

I agree....

I don't feel much thought went into this "foot patrol/recruit thing" ...

Our shit head neighborhoods have not experienced such things like maybe New York or wherever else.

This isn't the 1950's where Beaver Cleaver lives and Dude don't give a fuck if the VRI or foot patrol or whatever is out and around.

My point is this is and can be and will be very dangerous and on busy nights help may not be right around the corner for them.

Why are we trying to push the envelope here?

Are we trying to get someone killed here?

My opinion is these recruits should not walk the streets.

But if they are to do it then equip them with M4 Carbines and shotguns.

They are in the war zone folks!

D2A pay for EVERYONE doing desk sgt work. For answering questions from the public and doing the bosses work. Dont do the bosses work then, that your problem, tell them to do their own job. If its so bad go back on the street. Cant believe you want everone on the desk to get D2A pay for being a housecat

TO 6:39 My point is cops complain about everything but are unwilling to sacrifice a few hundred dollars to prove a point.

Because that's what coppers do, complain about every little fucking thing. Complain about what someone else is doing, about what someone else is getting, about where this one works or that one works. Complain about the "white shirts". A lot of them a no better than the average 5yr old.

"...D3 for everyone doing desk sergeant..."

Does downtown realize that Lts are NOT doing the "desk sgt job"(which is the bulk of the DSS duties per their grievance decision)...they should have auditors spend a shift in a few places and realize how the game is being played

Sgts are being "kept in" (or called in) and POs are being granted the required computer access to do all the "sgt stuff" (booking, inventory, bonding etc)

Hopefully Sgts win their grievance (and get Lt pay when DSS) and then POs (inc any granted the needed access - regardless of whether they filed a grievance or kept a detailed log of duties performed per shift) win their grievance....

and for the love of God- can somebody please explain why we need more Captains and what exactly the XO position has added...and why the hell cant Lts be XOs...(can the dept just stop padding the resumes/pensions of connected fcks already)

The PPO's are all okay. They did a good job of handling themselves but it's a horrible situation that this city is putting them in. Everyone on the street knows they're the new kids and they were yelling it on scene. Shame on the city for putting them out there like that. Someone is going to get hurt, killed or fired. Not good.

The mayor was on TV tonight saying what a success the program has been and he is sending out a new set of recruits every month until 15 of the 21 designated areas have the footposts of PPO's Showed homicides and down and shootings are down and citizens can now walk after dark in those areas. Was quite a show and had all the stats to back up the program

Nice job FOP. You have an informational meeting for Chicago Police Sergeants and then you throw out two who just happen to be FOP members and officers of the PBPA.

No opinion allowed but yours, huh Mikey. Typical north sider.
