It's OK to Steal!
- Ald. Edward M. Burke (14th) on Monday walked past a crowd of reporters waiting to question him about his property tax appeals practice, leaving a powerful colleague to defend him — sort of.
Ald. Pat O’Connor (40th), Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s City Council floor leader, refused to pass judgment on whether Burke did anything wrong by voting for a 2002 resolution that sharply restricts the city’s ability to dispute appeals for property tax refunds.
But, O’Connor pointedly noted that the idea of having a $1 million cap makes sense and did not originate with Burke.
“The resolution clearly wasn’t something offered by or promoted by Ald. Burke. It was brought about by the corporation counsel. . . .in recognition that any time we intervene into an appeal, it costs us a certain amount of money and they wanted to make sure that those monies we would have to expend to intervene would be worthwhile,” O’Connor said.
Worthwhile? How does that "worthwhile" look now you ass?
Burke's law firm raked in $3.1 million. Seeing as how the way they got paid was by taking a percentage of the reduction they argued for and won before the Illinois Property Tax Appeal Board. Assuming a 30% fee, that means the city lost out on over $10 million in revenue. A drop in the bucket compared to the total city budget, but in these times where the mayor has to see the dead bodies stacked 500 deep before he even thinks about hiring more police, and his superintendent blows through a $30 million overtime budget in 5 months, $10 million means more than a little bit.

Do you think that when the Chicago media rats describe Burke as Chicagos most powerful alderman, he gets a chubby? Why do they constantly wash his nut sack for him?
And we take an annual ethics test to remind us we can't use the job for financial gain
can't accept a gift over $50 bucks, but aldermen can profit by the very laws they pass
Yeah if CPD would get those people doing the public urination off the streets it would prevent the bigger crimes like this from happening....know what I'm sayin'?

Self serving POS....
great now I'll probably get audited

I'm pretty sure yheres an ethics violation. There seems to be conflict of interest there somewhere

Another member family of thiefs is planning to enter the Govenors race this or next week?
WHO?
Big Brother Bill Daley!
And you thought it can't get any worse!
This is disgusting that Rahm Emanuel is allowing this. He needs to step in and call out Ed Burke!
There are thing that the "Elite" are allowed to do and a few little things us peons must do. We end up paying for the things the Elite allow themselves to do. But I must ask..... "What about the Children"?
Not to worry, another property tax increase should cover the loss.
and his wife will decide your pension future.

she can ask all she wants but i'm highly doubtful she will get it.
once passed it goes to the PotatoHead's desk.
he has sixty days to decide if he signs or not. june 9 is the deadline it won't make a bit of difference if he signs it or not it's veto proof remember? though it's a terrible bill least it's start and remember sens. dan kotowski for park ridge and Kwame raoul wanted worse and restrictive
BTW only like five days left so the princess has NO time outs left.it not our fault they screwed around now this what they wanted and this what we have and will just have to work on it
It's an incredible conflict of interest. A government official who is a lawyer should never raise his sword against that government. Someone should file a complaint with the ARDC about this. They will have to publicize it otherwise it will get buried, as his wife runs the ARDC too.
Call your state reps NOW or retirees will be going to ObamaCare
feds??? can you figure out this one? you still haven't locked up the biggest crook of them all, our former mayor. you know the guy who know works for the law firm that put the horrendous parking meter package together.
un-f*ckin-believable
Ald. Pat O’Connor (40th), Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s City Council floor leader
That's curious, OConner was Daley's floor leader too...... Hmmmm.
Hey look over there, that cop got $10 from that tow truck driver! Get him!

House of Cards
They are worried the Police might take a $50.00 gratuity but the Aldermen are taking with both hands.
nothing will happen to alderman burke--- he is an old timer from the old 11th ward irish gangster club....
Yes, you should be there when the city car pulls up with Burke in the back. He waits for his bodyguard to get out and open the door for him, like a prince. I wonder if he worked on his own property tax reduction? The huge house he built on 51st st. is taxed at 1/3 of what it should be. New home construction in Cook County is 2.2 % of cost. He pays nothing near that.
Burke is an arrogant Putz who is treated like royalty. He is driven in a publicly funded vehicle, waited upon by Hack/Cops who will do anything to avoid working the street. He speaks Latin in private, apparently he thinks the Feds don't understand Latin, and he carries an ankle holstered .38 Snubbie, but works to deny the Commoners the right to bear arms. Burke is Poster Child for "Da Machine", but because he is human, time is catching up with him. Soon he will be gone because of age. Too bad he will not die in prison.
Ot, but did anybody see this?

Rahm says nothing to see here...move along.
OFF TOPIC....Why cant the hundreds of House mouses, And medical abusers at home process holding the offenders,More Cops on the streets.
United neighborhood organization, President Juan Rangel-(D) sitting down with Alderman Burke-(D), Illinois Speaker of the House Mike Madigan-(D) and Governor Pat Quinn-(D) what is their common denominator here besides unethical conduct political party affiliation either have a law license or use friends who have a law license to "take money away from the tax payers" to further their private business interests-PATTERN OF BEHAVIOR WARRANTS AN INVESTIGATION!
ald. burkes' ward is now dominated by hispanics ...time for them to do chicago a favor and vote him out in the next aldermanic election. if he didnt give you a job, vote him out...
DePaul is unsafe
this is a little unfair to burke. it looks bad but the tax review board is generally pretty fair. many, many properties are over assessed.
any property owner can question the assessment of their property and a lot of time the result is that the assessment is lowered.
what burke is doing is using his knowledge and experience in how the system works to his advantage in a perfectly legal way.
it does seem to be somewhat ethically challenged though.
the vast majority of properties in IL are over assessed, but most times the potential savings are small enough and the hassle big enough that few property owners challenge them.
most homeowners don't see a $100 a year savings on their property taxes as worth 3 or 4 hours of their time. and many have the money deducted directly out of their checking accounts kind of like income tax withholding so don't experience the sticker shock of having to pay it in one chunk so don't think as much about it.
No wonder our worthless Senators want the next U.S. Attorney to focus the GD's... the last one got to many powerful people into jumpsuits.
This state is a joke and the city is even worse. Fucking ridiculous.
Its hard to believe the Feds haven't found at least one thing dirty on Burke. But Remember to do your ethics trading guys.
dont worry because lisa will be gov, n nora conroy daley is our next mayor
He is only as powerful as we the people make him!
O.T. Happy 40th anniversary to members of group 73-3, who entered Obrien University 40 years ago this date. Congrads to those who didn't get fired, stayed out of jail, and lived to collect a pension. Those who passed away, may you be close to God.
Where does he get his basketball skills from?
Term limits less aldercreatures and jail sound good?
A merry band of thieves.
They should bring in GOV> Christie from NJ. Dieter turned Obama lover he would fit right in w/ this bunch.
conflict of intrest using your office to make money. what about the ethics statements we have to fill out don't the aldermen have to do the same? this is corruption the FBI should investigate. lets get rid of half of the aldermen and save the taxpayers millions and less corruption.

Oh stop complaining. This is how the machine works and it will never change. Even the FEDS wont look at this.
This is from a book coming out tomorrow by Jonathan Alter about the Obama White House. This is typical Tiny Dancer, using Chicago cops to threaten people when he shows us no respect.
Rahm Emanuel: The former operative and congressman wanted out as Obama’s White House chief of staff in part because he was “tired of being undermined by Valerie Jarrett, and he was anxious to run for mayor of Chicago.” (Alter reprises the story of Rahm trying to persuade then Gov. Blagojevich to appoint Jarrett to the U.S. Senate seat vacated by Obama, as a way to keep her out of the White House.) As mayor, Emanuel kept his hand firmly in the campaign and Alter paints a 24-hours-before-election-day scene of Rahm confronting Obama’s pollster at the campaign’s Chicago headquarters: “`You better fucking be right,’ the mayor told the pollster, only half-joking. `See these guys?’ he said, pointing to his [mayoral] security detail. `If you’re not fucking right they will hunt you down and bring you back to me and I’ll fucking take care of you myself.’”

Yeah, Burke may be all that you claim he is, known only to you by rumor or innuendo. What I do know as fact is about three (3) different police officers catastrophically injured in the line of duty that Burke, in his role as Finance Chairman bent over backwards to help. Naysayers will simply say "that was his job" but the extras that Burke got for these officers and never claimed any credit for goes way above and beyond what they were required to get. Naysayers will say "well, these guys should get EVERYTHING the City has" but we all know it doesn't happen. Burke made it happen. I know this for a fact; I'm related to one of these officers. Anything we ever needed was simply a phone call to Ed Burke and it was done. Through the whole thing, he was the only one who went the extra mile for my relative. So you can continue to beat the guy up; maybe he deserves it for other things. But in our book, the Burke is a stand-up guy.

the reason why he never gets indicted is because he is like whitey burger just like the movie the departed the irish mafia rules all.

It is great that he bent over backwards to help the three officers. What is troubling is why would these three officers who were catastrophically injured in the line of duty need him to help. Shouldnt the city and the bosses of the CPD along with the pension fund see that they were given the duty disability that they deserved. So now you have to be clouted if you are seriously injured in the line of duty/
Jimbo is a great guy, educated and was a very good police officer. We need more like him to be promoted. On top of that he remained a gentleman.
Alderman O'Connor is not the person to quote when asked about Burke's ethical misconduct. O'Connor has been a horse thief for years especially when it comes to approving zoning changes that ultimately serve to benefit his wife's real estate practice.
