A Chase, A Wreck, A Death

  • A man who shot someone in the East Garfield Park neighborhood fled the scene and caused a fatal crash a mile away, according to police.

Officers were pursuing his vehicle, wanted in connection with the 11:30 p.m. shooting in the 100 block of Springfield Avenue south of Madison Street, when it caused a four-car crash at the intersection of Pulaski Road and Chicago Avenue about a mile north.

The Cook County medical examiner's office identified the woman killed in the accident as Marisol Mercado, 35, of the 5700 block of W. Grand Avenue in Chicago.

Four others, including the man described by police as the "offender," sustained "non-life-threatening wounds," Chicago Police Department News Affairs
Gun recovered, shooter in custody. Every single person in that car is deserving of being charged with Felony Murder.

Anybody else notice that the woman killed lives in the 5700 block of grand, the same area of the grandma that killed the 8 year old and the same last name of the uncle from schiller pk. that was just shocked? Is it just a coincidence or is that just a bad week for that family?

Its racist for the polees to chase the black offenders! The system is fixed! Too many black men in jail! The black men are entitled to get what they wanted and the racist police stopped them! Jesse Jackson? Al Sharpton? Want to chime in on this unjust arrest?! How about a march?!

The first two people I spoke to about this were veteran CPD. The first thing they both said was these coppers are fucked!!! Wrong, they did everything correct, pursuing an unknown shooting (possible murder) offender is 100% correct and as a 10 year Sergeant, who has been involved in such things plenty of times, I would allow this chase to continue until someone ran out of gas. The blame for everything lies squarely on the shooter, and driver of fleeing vehicle. To allow them to escape willingly, is not acceptable. It was a fine job done by our peeps, and thank god they are physically un-harmed. If your on this job and feel differently, go get a new job.

Media always reports that the offender was being chased by the police, never do they report that the offender was fleeing from the police at which time dis obeying all traffic laws. Just continue to blame someone else for your own actions!

If ole boy was so scared he would have called police instead of his fat lady friend who couldn't keep her lies straight on the stand. And the president don't want to give opinion now. Think he did that 18 mos ago talkin travon be looking like him if he had a son. A sitting President voicing his opinion on a criminal case that a person had not even been charged? What is this country coming to? Zimmerman sorry to say is fucked-not by his actions-but by the FOOLS!

Wait...so there's no difference between me, a sworn officer, following a suspicious person and a civilian that decides to take it upon himself to do it? That seems to contradict almost everything I've been taught about handling incidents while offduty. Even offduty cops are advised to limit their involvement. Sometimes we don't because of the nature of our job.

And so is the catch 22 that all police are in.

While the media reports on ghetto crime, it is imperative that you understand they DO NOT care about ghetto crime. While the citizens watch and post many comments on ghetto crime, you must understand they DO NOT care about ghetto crime.

The citizens and media love to free a ghetto criminal MORE THAN they like to see one jailed. But, more than anything else in the whole wide world, BOTH the citizens and the media LOVE to find someone TO BLAME for ghetto crime.

If you do nothing, you are never blamed. Act and you accept the risk.

There is a man in Florida named George who knows this better than anyone else in the world.

Good luck to the POs involved. It will not be easy on them. It hasn't been easy for George.

Feel Sorry for the P.Os hope they are OK and will be covered by the city. I don't know if I would chase anymore, with the current climate. The news gets higher ratings by blaming the police than actual criminals. If the police do something wrong, that is controversal and therefore gets everyone watching, so they have higher ratings. It is easier than looking for real news, unfortunately. I don't even watch the news anymore.

The fact remains that the true description is that the "Fleeing Felon" caused the crash.

I really hope you're a troll. Otherwise you're just another ignorant motherfucker that somehow "earned" sergeants stripes. When this winds thru court, you'll soon see how the officers did "everything correct". I am also glad out guys weren't hurt and my condolences to the family of the lady killed.

One last thing: anyone, ANYONE on the job that uses words like "peeps" (or "po-po") to discribe coworkers in CPD uniform is an undereducated douchebag that needs his clock cleaned. If you indeed wear stripes you're truly a disgrace to the uniform, saaahhhggge.
