A Damning Observation
- Damani Henard called his mom to say he was biking to a friend's house to play video games.
"I'll see you when you get home," Yolanda Paige said.
"OK, I love you," the 14-year-old said.
Paige got home late Tuesday night and didn't see her son, but figured he had stayed overnight. Then detectives showed up at her door.
"They were telling me my son was murdered," Paige said as she prepared to go to the morgue. "They were telling me he was riding his bike home and three guys approached him and he tried to pedal away, to get away, and he was shot twice, once in his neck and once in his chest.
- "There was a shooting a couple hours earlier. My son got killed three blocks away," Paige said. "I'm thinking maybe, when he was riding home, maybe they thought he was coming to retaliate toward the other gang members, I'm not certain. But I do know my son has no gang involvement.
"We need to step up and try to get the city back," she said. "The city belongs to the gangbangers."
The kid seems like a decent sort. But some neighborhoods are just war zones and those shooting don't seem to care who they kill.

the Wednesday Journal in Oak Park is reporting that this occurred around 12:45 am as the kid was on his way back home. The trib says it was around the 5000 block of north ave in the Austin neighborhood. The mom moved to a condo in OP about a year ago to get away from the gang activity in their old neighborhood near Humboldt park.
This keeps happening do much that I don't think it even has an effect anymore. We have become numb or immune. Another upset, crying mother, another outraged community, and another "revrund" holding a peace march, then on to the next one. Nothing will change. This kid appeared to be a good kid. If he was, then this story is a shame. But this keeps happening over and over in the same neighborhoods. Mr. Holder, do you want to have a discussion yet?

Look at the parenting skills employed here. The young kid leaves out to a friends and when the mother arrives back home late at night she ASSumes since he isn't home that he is spending the night. Doesn't check up with him at all. No contact with him BEFORE it got late. Apparently left to forage on his own and he ends up dead. Different standards for a different "culture".
I had an old time Captain many years ago that once told a group at a community meeting that the real way to solve this is for the entire block men, women and children to go out and beat the living shit out of these gang bangers within an inch of their lives and when anyone asks what happened, say I did not see anything. He was totally serious and I think he was right.
God created all men, Sam Colt made them equal… I believe that concealed carry will make things equal. Decent people are afraid to confront these animals because they have the upper hand. Even things up and people will begin take care of business. Try and do anything now and you will be the one ending up in jail.
Nope, I wouldn't come home and just assume my 14-year-old had decided to spend the night somewhere. I would track him down and bring him home. Going to bed and not knowing where my kids are is NOT an option. Shouldn't be for anyone.

I work in 025 and it is sad to see when innocent kids get caught up in the violence. This kid had no gang affiliation and no run ins with the law. What kind of savages go around and shooting at another human being? They truly have no consideration for another person's life.
Rahm has kids the same age as this young man, but he does not relate to this. He sees people as them or us; Us are the affluent people who can come into this City from their power bases in the burbs, or in his case D.C. and use this position as a stepping stone to greater power. The Chosen who were born to lead the masses. Yet he never solves the problems that snuff out an innocent kid's life. Rahm, you carpet bagging chunk of feces; WHERE ARE THE CHICAGO VALUES NOW? Will this be another photo op, like Pendleton?
If the victim was a very nice young man and not a gang member, then it seems there is a lot of glossing over in this story, specifically concerning the mother's parenting style.
This kid wasn't a good kid. He was on his way to becoming a little thug. He was recently arrested for threatening to beat up one of his pregnant teachers. He had violent tendencies and he liked to pick fights. Don't be fooled, this kid was not decent.
Does seem like a genuine victim, but if the shooting happened to a different person and mom witnessed it, would she cooperate with police? Or would she "No Talking" her way up and down the sidewalk? If she's savvy enough to understand that the shooters may have whacked little Jerome because they thought he was riding to retaliate for an earlier shooting, why the fuck does she let him ride his bike that way? "Our children should be able to ride their bikes in our neighborhood.".. You're absolutely correct. So when the cops come asking questions, cooperate. If you have good information, call. If you want to "take your streets back".. DO IT.
The politicians don't care about this senseless violence, it keeps them in business, and minorities on the plantation.

As long as the black population refuses to acknowledge and accept responsibility for the overwhelming issues of violent behavior within their group, nothing will change. They are content with playing the victim and taking government handouts. The excuse for their behavior is that you are a racist. As such, nothing will ever change. We are headed for a racial crisis in this country because we cannot support a welfare society that revels in thug behavior.

Ummm he was en route to his home in Oak Park when the shooting occurred. A "way out" isn't what you think it is. My old man and mother worked crazy to get us out of the ghetto and I saw plenty of transplants, like myself, who had a hard time actually doing better because now they felt out of place in the nice neighborhood. Most of the people I grew up with that were incarcerated and/or killed I met when we moved out the ghetto and they did not live in the ghetto many times. A LOT of them are from Beverly, Hyde Park, South Shore and graduated from Rice, De La Salle, Whitney Young. Some of them probably would've done better in the ghetto because you know you're no thug there and that you don't want to be like the people around you.
The old timer of their neighboorhoods better take action to stop this. This would of never happened in the 60'.

She DID. Kid was visiting, riding his bike back to Oak Park.
The gangs do run the city.
Biggest one is ran by a man named Rahm. And he has an army of thugs. No, not the whole CPD but he owns enough of the top brass to keep the gang doing his bidding. See you don't have to own the ship to guide it, just the helmsman and some of the key crew members.
Motorcycle gangs like Hells Angles have this view. They feel police are just another gang that is paid off by the local populace for protection. Interesting theory, right? After all, what is a gang really?
And Rahm uses his 'gang', not for the safety of citizens, but for just keeping the lid on crime enough to get re-elected and skim off from businesses.

Maybe he or she doesn't move because they are required to live in the city, like us. Or maybe they don't move because their lakefront penthouse is a short walk to the company headquarters. Maybe living in the burbs or downstate would make it impossible for them to commute to their jobs or jobs.

Well stated. The poor folks on the south side and west side have to put up with mutts you have no up bringing from day one.
The cast majority of these areas work hard, take care of their kids and get bullets flying threw there windows.
