Another Knife Wielding Assailant Killed

  • A woman who was taken to a hospital with serious injuries following a police shooting in the Roseland neighborhood has died, authorities said.

A police-involved shooting took place in the 10900 block of South Eberhart Avenue about 6:40 p.m., said Chicago Police News Affairs [...], who said she had no further information about the incident about 7:30 p.m. The Cook County medical examiner's office was notified that the woman died, but did not have yet have detailed information.

Early information was that the woman was holding a knife when police arrived on scene and refused to put it down, according to WGN-TV.

A woman who suffered a gunshot wound was taken in serious to critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center about 7:30 p.m., according to the Chicago Fire Department's news office.
If you have a knife and an Officer tells you to put it down, maybe you ought to do exactly that. In the meantime, well done Officers.

As was so often said...

A verbal warning IS a courtesy.
Mere uniformed presence is ENOUGH when The Police are confronted with someone brandishing a deadly weapon.

There is no law that says Patrolmen have to fight fair.

Fighting fair gets very good people hurt and killed.

Think about who has final say-so in how hard Policemen can take it to an offender even in non lethal hands-on?

Corporation Counsel.

The least likeliest person having to fight to keep their hide intact or to stay alive.

Tuco - The Good The Bad and The Ugly: "If you're gonna shoot, then shoot! Don't talk!"

People are so damned goofy about "The Po-leece shot without warning! No fair!"

Good job by the officers...
The Police go home in one piece.

All others go to jail, go to the hospital or go to the morgue.

"WAH! You "public servants" have no right being so vicious! You need more sensitivity training."

We're up to our eyeballs in "sensitivity."

The toilet of society is spewing like a geyser with the stuff and it's spilling out the damn windows...

OT -

According to Crain"s Brice Rauner, who is running for Governor, has stated police pensions should not be cut.

"I am a big public-safety advocate," said Mr. Rauner, making it clear he was referring to police and not firefighters. On pensions, "(Police) deserve a special deal. They do not belong in the same boat as teachers" and other public employees.

Don't buy in the city, rent. Put your money into a house and area you want to retire in. The money you pay in rent and the mortgage you will pay outside of cook county would be the equivalent as if you lived in the city.

A lot of people have a hard time believing that someone with a knife would actually confront a police officer. I work in a very busy district. In my career this type of incident happened to me two times. Once, during a domestic, she got pissed walked away from me. I followed her and she went into the kitchen drawer. I stepped back and took out my gun. I told her to let me see her hands. She said "fuck you bitch, I don't have to". My partner came in with his gun too. She finally complied as she turned around, the knife fell to the floor. The second time, there was a street disturbance and a woman is thirty feet away from me and she is carrying a hammer. I told her to drop it. She kept coming at me. She was elderly so I knew she wasn't going to run towards me. I kept backing up. She then went upstairs. I followed her and when her back was turned I grabber her arm and wrist into a lock and she dropped the hammer. If I wanted to, I could have shot her. But I showed restraint. Officers everyday get caught into deadly situations yet they show restraint. There is a common myth out there that we as police officers if given a legit opportunity will just shoot someone. Not true in my case and not true in many other officer's cases. We don't want to shoot someone, but if we have to, then we had to. The assailant put us there in that circumstance, no one else.

O..h --- H..e..l..l --- Bwaaahahaha!!

Sorry, but the way that's phrased is funny. No fluff, no bloviating, no nuttin'.
Short and to the point. Like a Boot Hill Cemetery epitaph on an outlaw's tombstone:
-- 'Here Lies'
-- 'Lester Moore'
-- 'Four Slugs'
-- 'From A 44'
-- 'No Les'
-- 'No More'
Lester Moore, Boothill Cemetery, Tombstone AZ Real Person. Really Dead.

an aside, the .44 (.44-40) was the most popular/commonly used cartridge in the 'old west', not the 45 Colt. Settlers, Cowboys & Outlaws used them for their '1873 Colt Frontier' Six-Shooters and Winchester rifles. Winchester called their 44 the '44 Winchester Center Fire' - 44 WCF - and the name stuck over 44-40 (Both names are correct).

O/T But Important:

The Obama Administration is trying to sissify The Marines?

The "Chicago Way" of fucking with an organization with time honored traditions because the liberal, yellow-pinky "everybody must sit to pee" m/fers who recoil from anything remotely martial or manly are running things now.

"Marines considering change to unisex dress cover"

No... The change is being forced on them.

Kinda wondered why Sparkle-Farts has been on a tear cashiering senior Marine officers on a pretext?

Common themes?

Burning your Military and Police at both ends.

Destroying the culture and traditions.

Getting rid of people who know how to "make it go."

Intentionally installing ignorant outsiders and carpetbaggers to induce institutional inertia/force change from the primary mission of the organization?

Hmmm...

Everything being done to CPD is being used to serve as a nationwide model?

The Chicago Style orchestrated media shit-talk is being started against The Marines for resisting change to a "universal"/unisex (female) cover...

Where ever you go, the yellow-pinkies will show themselves because they are wholly unable to suppress the urge to bend, spread, grunt and let fly with a bright new idea when absolutely nothing is wrong with what's already in place.

*Let's forcibly change some shit we know nothing about so we can say we made an impact... We know what's best for everyone, so if ANYONE complains, they're "conservative" and narrow-minded for resisting us.*

O_o?

Sissify The Marines?

Strip CPD of it's Mojo?

What's REALLY going on?

RANT: (OFF)/on

not an officer but safe is a very subjective and relative term. you might want to provide some more information.

Are you talking about safe compared to Washington Heights and Englewood or safe compared to Norwood Park and Dunning? how much are you concerned about proximity to a bad area? Just east of Mount Greenwood are some of the worst neighborhoods in Chicago but Mount Greenwood in itself is a pretty nice area...

It's by no means a war zone like other parts of the city. However, it will not be an enjoyable living experience. It would slowly wear on you. Someone earlier stated stay south of foster. If you wish to live in that region of the city, I strongly recommend Lawrence- Roscoe ravenswood- western. Go as far west as rockwell between Leland and montrose. It's no Edison park or mount greenwood. But it will be pleasant living life experience if you're geared towards a more urban atmosphere.

10/25/2013 11:02:00 AM

This isn't a damn game of Simon Says... The Police owe you no special consideration.

Again... A "warning" is a courtesy.

Knife.
Bat.
Tree branch.
Gun.
Frying Pan.
Rat-Tail comb.
A piece of mirrored glass from a busted living room table.

And yet again... People get real goofy about perceived lack of "fair play" by The Police in use of force situations both lethal and non-lethal.

Whatever manually manipulated instrument that can be used to inflict great bodily harm can result in kinetic body piercing by The Police.

You got a problem with that, media troll?

However... The public, media and the political powers that be would much rather see Policemen come to grievous harm than take combative defensive action predicated on the pure and pristine reading/interpretation/application of state law.

Illinois Criminal Code of 1961 is a work of beauty for those who read with a jaundiced eye.

Yeah, yeah... 2012 Revisions and all that but the upright, law abiding common sense man, Police or not will "get down" like he needs to in order to survive.

There are no prizes for second place in this bloody, vicious business of Chicago Policing.

There are really no winners either... Just fucked-up, fucked with and often times fucked over survivors.

It's the Chicago Way...

Oh... That doesn't jibe with the "Officer Friendly" narrative, doesn't it?

(Unofficial) Chicago Police Department Rules For Gunfighting*

*With all due credit to The USMC.

Rule #19:
Watch their HANDS! Hands kill. (In GOD We Trust. Everybody else keep your hands where WE can SEE them.

Rule #22:
Be polite. Be Professional. But have a plan in mind to kill everyone/everything you encounter should it ever become necessary.

Rule #23:
Be courteous to everyone, friendly to no one.

Chicago Policing IS serious business.

But it looks so "easy."
Right?

They do a little exercise in the Academy to teach us the answer to that very question.

You partner off and each of you gets a turn with a little rubber knife. They give 60 seconds and you have to count how many times you get cut with a knife.

It's usually about forty to fifty times. In sixty seconds.

Very well said officer! I too understand how when you grow up, a lot of your surrounding environment can have a huge influence. I was born in Honduras and came to America at the age of 12. Both my parents barely spoke English and struggled their whole life financially. My mom and dad made it on less than $8 per hour salaries. We lived in a basement and didn't have a lot of material luxuries. Only when I joined the Army did I realize how poor we were. But we didn't feel poor because I know it sounds corny; but we had each other. When I got into a home in my district, sometimes I feel for the kids. A lot of them don't even have a chance. The cycle will continue sadly. Also I don't feel that all of the people are bad in my district. There are a lot of hard working people who are trying to make it. Just like my mom and dad. I am glad to hear that not all officers feel animosity towards people in the south and west sides.

By rule, I can't tell you not to buy at a certain location. But let me put it this way; go drive on Howard Street from Howard and Rogers to Howard and Ridge, also drive on Jonquill Terrace from Sheridan to the end. Also walk by and around each of the red line stops; Howard, Jarvis, and Morse. Tell me what you see and if it's a sound area to buy in.

I know, I know, I know, your realtor told you it was a gentrifying neighborhood. Or it was going to change. But you decide what you want to do.

My personal bet is not to live in the city and live in a decent suburb. If you have to live in the city there are still good decent neighborhoods (not necessarily the popular ones that will break the bank or unaffordable to you). I am glad that someone is doing their homework. Good luck on your future home purchase.

I have not had to shoot anyone, here or in the service, but my prayers are for brothers like yourself that do have to take someone's life and that you realize that this world is a sick place and that Christ doesn't condemn you for having to kill someone to spare yourself and others from being hurt. May the peace of God overshadow the horrors of these incidents.

Speaking about knives. How about how Shields stabs all the blue shirts in the back making 210k, as FOP president. wTF!!! Brothers and Sisters in Blue. That's what this lying, no integrity, clown, bitch boy Mike Shields makes, plus a take home car, and an expense account. Unacceptable, that this coward makes 210k salary and costs us money. He's eating steak while the blue shirts eat hamburger. He makes as much as the Superintend!!! Brothers and sisters in Blue please show up at the FOP meeting and launch his ass. This is just humiliating. It's time for a new board with new salaries. We cannot afford these inflated salaries. It's funny how FOP have become like politicians. They cry broke but always give themselves raises. If this punk had any integrity he would have cut his salary even by 30 percent since we have the worst economy. Shields if you're reading this it's time to leave. You are no better then the Alderman or the Mayor.

I love all the tuff guys here who say how awesome it is etc.. Guess you've never killed anyone. It's not awesome. I don't care if the are dope dealers, gang members or "animals". When it all comes down to it they are still human beings. 63 year old female in a domestic might still be an animal but its still a person who was killed. Have you learned nothing from being the police? Do u realize how fkd up it is growing up in the ghetto? As soon as kids are born they don't have a chance. It's a slippery slop, they learn when they are young, it's not the kids fault, it's the adults fault then those kids grow up and they do the only thing they know how to do. I don't support it at all, but I do understand it. It's very easy for us to call them savages and animals and high five each other when one gets killed but flip it around if you were the one living there. What would you do? Let me guess, you would go to school get a job go to college blah blah blah.. Easier said than done. I'm not a sympathizer at all, but I do understand. It's easy when we live in good neighborhoods, make 80k base a year and have a good life and we can say how easy it is to succeed. Not for them. I've had to kill two on this job. One was when I had just over two years on the job in the early 80s.. High fives and I thought I was superman. Killed a second around 2001. It's not a good feeling. U learn a lot working the street and learn a lot about life and how fkd up this world is. Stop cheering, someone's mother, grandmother sister etc is dead because she fkd up. Glad the officer is safe and went home. Defiantly sounds like it was a good shoot... But for a second don't cheer about death

10/25/2013 12:30:00 PM

I think the point you're missing is that, but for the grace of God, one (or more) of these officers could have been killed. The sentiment being expressed is relief the good guys are OK and anger that a selfish piece of garbage put them in a position where they felt they had to pull the trigger to save human life. If you've had to kill someone then you know the "Oh shit!!!" feeling at the moment of that split second decision. Of course its not a good or happy feeling, but when it comes down to it, I would rather see any of my brothers/sisters make it home rather than hesitate and get hurt, or worse, because some animal made a selfish choice. You can spout all the bullshit you want about how tough the "ghetto life" is, but most people really don't care. Life is about choices and if you make bad ones there's a good chance you'll end up like this lady. If you're 60+ years old and still don't know the difference between right and wrong, then you're going to be called a savage and an animal because animals don't know the difference between right and wrong either. The officer who was put in the position of making the difficult choice to pull the trigger shouldn't shed one tear because this person caused this to happen. Her family can, and should, blame her for their loss, but we all know they won't. She wasn't executed, she made a bad choice and it cost her her life. I'm sorry this officer was put in the position of having to take another person's life, but he can hold his head high knowing he did the right thing so he and his fellow officers, could go home to their families.

Marine Corps not changing male dress cover

By Cpl. Chelsea Flowers Anderson | October 25, 2013

Recent headlines in the media have created confusion regarding a Marine Corps uniform item, the male dress cover. Some in the media have implied that the President of the United States directed a change in this dress cover.

Commandant of the Marine Corps Gen. James F. Amos said, “the President in no way, shape or form directed the Marine Corps to change our uniform cover.”

While the Marine Corps Uniform Board is currently looking for a new cover, or cap, for female Marines because the current manufacturer is going out of business, there is no intent to change the current male Marine dress cover.
A survey released by the Marine Corps Uniform Board eliciting input from Marines in regard to uniform items, sought opinions about the “Dan Daly-style” cover.

Pictures of male Marines wearing this cover were included in the survey material. This is standard practice while conducting surveys. For instance, when the Marine Corps transitioned to the current MARPAT camouflage design several years ago, surveys included a number of proposed cami-patterns and additional uniform options.

“The surveys often contain photo illustrations that portray what a uniform article might look like when worn by a Marine,” Col. Todd S. Desgrosseilliers, Marine Corps Uniform Board president, said. “This is a very standard practice. While there was never any desire or intent to change the male Marine dress cover, the feedback we have received to maintain this iconic cover has been heard, loud and clear. "

Surveys conducted by the Uniform Board serve to inform the commandant, who has the final say on all changes to the Marine Corps uniform.

===========

You have just gained so much respect from me! It's easy to just right off the People of the ghetto, good or bad, with out really understanding the situations that really affect them. Even though I'm a west side native, I'm not excusing the none sense that happens, but I with out a doubt understand it. These kids growing up on welfare and section 8 didnt ask for this, and from a early age they learn fast ways on how to attempt to not have to live like a section 8/ welfare residents. They didnt ask to live an area where murders happen daily, being preyed upon then becoming a predator and etc. Is not what they asked for and Im sure majority of their parents didnt plan life this way but no one is perfect and life throws curve balls at everybody, and different people deal with it in different ways. Once again not exusing the acts, just merely trying to let people understand the cycle. "oh save it, blah blah blah" all you want, its nothing but the truth. One commenter a while back posted a article on how poverty situations actually drop a persons IQ. Once thats been instilled in a person thats all they know. Like when a a person becomes a cop, it is instilled in them to be a good person at any and all times off and on duty. I am sorry that this officer had to kill this woman. This will probably be one of the toughest things he will ever have to live with and he needs support, not a cheering crowd. and I am sorry her family has to go through this for all the ass holes acting like her family shouldnt be sad from losing her.
It was a good day for the good guys, but nobody "wins" in the end.

Wrongful Death Law Suit to follow! Lawyers will profit, officers will be stressed and treated like shit by the Corp Counsel that represents them. It never stops, even though the officer was correct. The ten foot rule, is nonsense! A knife will kill you as dead as a gun.

10/25/2013 08:53:00 AM

1. Lawyers will profit if they win. Lucky for us they don't always win and city doesn't always settle.

2. Some officers are not stressed out by law suits but welcome them for over time. Some officers have a court agreement to pay their spouses 90% of their income allowing 30% of the rest of 10% to be eligible for deduction upon punitive damage findings. Don't trust your spouse? Have savings? Own a house? car? Anything? Is that all safe? Can you make it secure? Do you know?

3. Corp counsel guys and gals are good at what they do. Most of them are good and I will take corp counsel over out sourced private firms any day.

4. Instead of being happy that the officers are safe and an animal dead you mention law suits. Maybe the officer who shot is happy at home enjoying the days off yet you mention the law suit.

5. The universal distance for an assailant with a knife is not 10ft. But I'm sure you were just joking.

Look up an old training film about surviving edged weapons. It starred Dan Inosanto who was a popular martial artist that trained with Bruce Lee and even starred in his movies. It involves scenarios where real life police enter a scene and have no idea who this guy is and he attacks them with a practice knife. All the officers lost, even those with weapons in their hands. The thing that I remember clearly was an officer needs a minimum of 21feet.... (21' FEET) of distance to have a chance to survive an edged attack. No bullshit guys, look it up. To be forewarned is to be empowered. A blue shirt. Always go home the way you left. God bless.

Golly there must be at least 1-10 knives per home in chicago. Maybe Preck-twinkle or Rahmmy can tax owners of knives. Think of the money they could raise.

So long as Joe Moore is alderman in the 49th Ward (024 District), nothing will change for the better. A few years back, there was a brief move towards gentrification. Then he almost lost an election.

And, here came a whole new crew of Section 8 folk as they are a big part of his voting base (along with the Heartland Cafe types). Then, add in the GDs, who are his election day "enforcers."

No, I would not advise buying at 7400 N. Marshfield, not at all.

City hired a private law firm for me when I got sued in Federal Court. I had my doubts but it was a good decision. Lawyer came from a good firm and did a great job. I won twice, at the District Court level and at the 7th Circuit Appellate Level.
