Rahm Saves Millions!
- Mayor Rahm Emanuel will order a 90-day hiring freeze on “non-critical” personnel when he takes the wraps off his 2014 budget on Oct. 23, City Hall sources said Wednesday.
To save $1 million, the hiring freeze will begin Jan. 1 and continue throughout the year as jobs become open. It will not impact police officers, firefighters or other public safety employees. As many as 20 already vacant jobs will also be eliminated to save $500,000.
After a three-year hiring slowdown, the police academy is churning out regular classes of recruits to keep pace with retirements. Emanuel has pledged to continue hiring at that same clip to keep the Chicago Police Department at full-strength—even as aldermen demand additional officers.
The $1.5 million expected to be generated by the hiring freeze and job cuts are just a trickle compared to the $338.7 million shortfall in next year’s budget that Emanuel is struggling to close—and the $1 billion gap Chicago faces next year without pension reform.
$1.5 million.
In a budget of something like $4 billion, with a "B."
That's not even a rounding error.

is the 1.5 mil. part of the down payment edge tax credit package for adm corp. to move part of their hq to chicago.
the money has to come from somewhere.
Don't sell the mayor short, but don't expect him to perform miracles. Only our president can do that.
Three year hiring slowdown? It started toward the end of 2007. In 2008 there were only three classes of police recruits, one which had only 25 and another had 125!
That stupid ghostpayroller Admin Mgr at the Academy (there are only two of those useless positions left in the city) thinks and is vying for a promotion. To what, I am not sure because I am pretty sure that Shackman prevents the Dept. from giving her the position of Training Director. The dept Never interviewed anyone for that positiion (a position that they were going to fill and accepted application from inside and outside the dept about 4 years ago)
Hey Rahm - get rid of that Admin Mgr. job. It is a useless position filled with two useless people.
Non critical? Joke. Were the Safe Passage signs every block critical?
Look over here! See the money I saved!
Now don't look over there and see the money I pissed away needlessly. Like Safe Passage, a basketball court for a private college, unnecessary signs and bike routes, Maggie Park, Maggie box upkeep by connected companies, Daley leftovers and the like.
I like to travel on your dime too.
Rahm
Hey I have an idea. Maybe Rahm can give that $1M to CEASE FIRE again. What a great idea paying gang members to do the police's work. Brilliant I say! Or maybe put another swing set in at Maggie Daley Park. Just an idea. My two cents. So glad he is such a reformer and saving the city money! Go Rahm!
Imagine the money that could be saved if we only had 20-25 aldermen?
Rahm just gave $250,000 to the 19th Wards Beverly Art Center, because its bankrupt and can't pay the bills. He even got 5/3 Bank to forgive a $2m mortgage.
How's that taste???
if there non-critical,why employ them in the first place.
The academy has NO NEW classes starting because of Safe Passage.
The P.O.s and Detectives doing the background checks are tied up because of this bullshit.
Like throwing the deck chairs off of the Titanic to stop it from sinking.
Why would the city give anything to the art center unless they plan on taking it over for whatever they want to put in there ie clinic, community workshop etc.
how about stopping the payment to gary airport? That's a million there.

The problem is the titanic should have been bigger....
I am no fan of Rahm Emmanuel, he is a nasty little man, but our financial problems are not all his fault. He inherited a huge mess from Daley, who basically let his friends and family bleed Chicago almost dry. What I can't understand is why the media in this city keeps giving Richard M. Daley and his minions a pass.

We here on the blog probably blame Emanuel because he campaigned (if you can call it that) on promises of transparency and fiscal responsibility. Neither of those things has yet occurred during his tenure. He spends our money like a man with a terminal illness and a pocket full of credit cards.
As to why the media doesn't call Richard the Younger to task about the raping and pillaging of the City's finances, well, we can speculate forever on that one.
fear not!
those that are aldercreature's pets or members id good standing with the ruling junta will get in just through the back door is all
you might have to give
HEAVILY to the campaign and ring some bells but you will survive

"You're gonna need a bigger boat."
Daley was praised for years for how well he ran the City. He did it this way: When he came into office the City was in very good financial shape, all the pension funds were funded at a high level. For years Daley diverted pension contributions and spent reserve accounts and sold off capital assets until the city was on the very brink off insolvency.
Then Daley declared he was retiring.
In business this is called making a small fortune in business by starting with a large fortune.
Daley did it quite well. It took 22 years to bleed the City dry. What does his group of fans think about the low IQ stuttering prick now?
He had a duty to watch out for the financial health of the City. He failed miserable and completely. And he was never held to task.
We have corporations extorting more money to keep jobs in the state. We have the gas company getting the customers to pay for upgrades and needed maintenance by way of a rate hike. Anyone notice that the address at the bottom of their gas bill where you could send your payment is in Wisconsin? How many jobs did they keep in the state after getting a generous rate hike? Gotta love this state. They never disappoint with the corruption!
Bet he gives promotions to all of the sycophants licking his boots, though--including the ones at headquarters and the academy.
Yea, I agree completely, get rid of the Admin Manager jobs at the academy. AC is a totally useless and is only at work a fraction of the time that she is being PAID to be there. Why doesnt someone look into this GHOST PAYROLLING???
