Still Number One!

  • Through the first nine months of this year, homicides in Chicago have declined significantly over a disastrous 2012 that saw killings surpass the 500 mark.

The pace of improvement, however, has slowed sharply in recent months, putting the city on target to finish the year with close to the same number of homicides as in 2011.

Despite the year-to-year improvement, Chicago still leads all major U.S. cities in the number of homicides.
Gee, the same number as 2011 - who suggested that the media look at that? Oh yeah, everyone not connected with Rahm, McStreetlightAssassin and CompStat.

There are some other hidden gems in the article, too:
  • Shootings, though, are down substantially through the first three quarters of 2013, not just over last year's figures but also compared with 2011's. Through September, shootings have dropped 22 percent over last year and about 14 percent over 2011, the statistics show
Um, yeah, since they count multiple victim incidents (like the 13 shot in the park) as "one incident." And anything without a victim (shots fired, no hits) isn't even counted in the stats - being a poor marksman is aplus under CompStat.
  • The department also spent tens of millions of dollars on overtime pay to, at one time, more than 400 cops a day to work in the city's most crime-plagued neighborhoods on their days off. Additional rookie cops have worked straight time in those neighborhoods on foot patrols.
Burning through the entire overtime budget even before summer had rolled around - that was great.
  • While McCarthy scoffs at the weather as a factor, criminologists said the unseasonably warm start to 2012 contributed greatly to homicides topping 500 last year for the first time since 2008. The more typical winter weather early this year helped produce sharply lower homicide figures through the first three months.
Criminologists (people who actually study crime) agreed with our readers (cops whose field observations are the envy of any criminologist). Imagine that.
  • Even with the improved numbers, Chicago remains far ahead of other big cities with its number of homicides so far this year. New York City has had 240 slayings and Los Angeles has 203, according to police statistics from late September, the most recent numbers available for the two cities. As of Thursday, Philadelphia had recorded 189 slayings.

The Chicago Police Department's official homicide tally, which is reported to the FBI for its annual Uniform Crime Report, did not include four killings — three of which took place within city limits on expressways patrolled by state police. The homicide figures also do not include "death investigations" that could later be reclassified as homicides.
Ah yes, the number-fudging. That would be another article entirely.

hey rahm - hey garry...

ain't this pretty...

https://vine.co/v/hgXnVvrLjMM

tell the taxpayers again about ' broken windows' crime fighting and how stopping the little crimes like broken windows, littering, public urination, graffiti and all that other stuff you tell us cpd is focusing on is working.

tell us rahm on how the streets don't belong to the gangs. look at that shit

and let's not put it all on cpd either. look at that shit.

tell us... don't streets and sans ride down that street at least once a week to collect the trash. doesn't the mailman walk that street six days a week. where's the alderman at and why aren't any of them doing anything about this.

don't give us the it's not our job crap and we can't do anything unless the citizens call in to report it. look at it.. look at it. are your people fucking blind or is it that now that nato is long gone no-one gives a shit about it yet your top cop still lecturing it like it's working.

what a fucking disgrace. sorry for the language but i thought i'd put it in words that rahm might understand.

the gangs rule the street. 24th and washtenaw sd shit as far as the eye can see.

we can tell garry is obliterating this gang stuff eh/

meanwhile two blocks from the great alderman burkes castle with 24/7 guards and blue light pod cams...just two blocks away at the 51st orange line station there's a crime spree smash and grab in the cta park and ride.

nice use of tax dollars. the gangs rule this town.

The national murder clearance rates are 64% (2011), CPD is 24% for 2012 or a little over 33% if you count cold cases. What's more embarrassing? That we are #1 in murders or in the bottom of the range of murders solved?

Can anyone update the status of these 'strategies'?:

1) Crossing flags
2) Snitch boxes
3) Twitter tip line
4) Aid from assorted athletes, etc
5) Personal visits to certain gangbangers telling them:
'YOU BETTER NOT DO ANYTHING!'
6) Burglaries being handled over the phone (99% of my cases still come from beat cars)

I'm sure there are more, but those are just off the top of my head. Why doesn't the media ask McCarthy, EVER, how those strategies are working?

Hello?????? Media????? Is anybody keeping track of the number of strategies?

And as far as the speed cameras, if it's not a money grab by the city, why aren't they putting up those signs that tell you your speed before you enter a 'safety zone' and where the camera is so you can you reduce speed once you realize it's a safety zone???

Love this line especially: "McCarthy has repeatedly blamed Chicago's violence in part on weak gun laws and lenient sentences for offenders caught carrying illegal guns"

No mention of the 80% single parent birth rate, no mention of the lack of family structure, no mention of the hatred and complete disregard for police and the law, and no mention of the ridiculous and unwritten "no-snitch" policy. Unreal. Keep going after the guns Garry, great idea. No need to trace this back to the core problems as to hopefully save future generations of decent citizens from the same thing, right? Crime is down we thought though, so, lenient gun laws and sentencing shouldn't matter, right? Better to keep quiet and thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt, sir. Chicago media, trace the issue back to the core if you want a story. Otherwise, you're just rehashing the same old shit day after day.

OT: Anyone who is nearing or 0ver 60 and served in the military from 1960-73 know the name of Gen. Vo Nguyen Giap. He was North Vietnam's greatest general. He recently died in an army hospital in Vietnam. Supposedly he was 102.

Whatever you think of that conflict, that general was a warrior and brilliant military strategist. He was also the enemy. First the French and then the USA.

So I object to the photo accompanying the article about his death published in the New York Times.

The photo is from 1995 and shows Gen. Giap smiling, in his uniform, in public, with former Sec. of Defense McNamara behind him and McNamara is smiling like he just got his first blow job.

Giao met with some from the American side, as a meeting of old warriors. Many US military personnel wouldn't have anything to do with the NVA command, they would pick up a rifle today and start shooting.

And there is McNamara grinning like a hyena in public with the man who through skill and ruthlessness killed thousands of American service personnel.

I don't get it, why would the New York Times publish such a hideous picture? Liberal or whatever, it is still an American newspaper. That little NV General engineered the defeat of the US and caused many of our own to come home in an aluminum coffin. They should have tossed in that one of jane Fonda sitting at a North Vietnamese AA gun. One that was used to shoot down American aircraft.

Well, that is all, too bad McNamara is dead, he could go to the funeral and give the eulogy for the guy who made him look like shit..

Word is also that Finance, CFD and Parks Department got over 500 warnings in the 30 day trial period. They are sitting on the number of CPD squads that got nailed for speeding.

If absolutely necessary to protect YOURSELVES at all costs BEFORE we show up, feel free. The amendment was never meant to grant the authority of police powers nor vigilante activity. That means you don't play police and attempt to kill or take into custody armed/unarmed offenders. Your job is to protect yourself of your family OR play witness to the events, NOT whip out the gun and try to stop crimes in progress because you think you have a right to intervene in any crime you may witness.

When you see us coming put the fucking gun down or away and stay the fuck away from us. We don't need your distraction of another civilian on scene with a fucking gun trying to get involved in police action.

ot -- corporations lining up to get their hands on that pension money.

as illinois constitutional lawbreakers downstate pour over the words in the constitution to find ways to change the meanings of those words into something that allows the theft of public pension funds, the corporations are lining up with their extortion demands.

predictions are coming in that the lawbreakers have found a way to 'save' 130 million pension dollars over 30 years -- so what do we see as a result -- adm corporations extortion demands of 20 million dollars of that money over 20 years.

we're pretty sure adm corp. is just the first and others will be lining up for their corporate hand out at the weak public employee workers union expense.

rahm says chicago is 300 million dollars over budget so fines, fees and taxes must go up even more.

hell yeah. 56 million dollars for maggie daley park -- what taxpayers asked for that. millions of dollars for bike paths, river walks, new college basketball stadiums -- spending money like the pension deficits just don't exist. we'll just take the money out of the pension because 'it's necessary' as is often times said as the reason.

kiss that money good-bye

when they get away with it this time they'll be back for more because it's easy. like a robber that found a soft mark an easy target over and over again.

prepare yourself to hear shortly that the words in the constitution did not mean this the words actually meant that.

or. oh hey it's an ' emergency ' sorry folks constitution has been suspended.

yeah an 'emergency' crisis created by reckless spending and corruption. the money that belonged to the pensioners is going into the pockets of the political clouted friends and family of the political apparatus.

an emergency created by blowing millions of dollars on maggie daley park, river walks for the corporate real estate developers, college basketball stadium political status symbols whereas the political elite can tout that ' you didn't build that' rahm did, quinn did, obama did.

hey, all we have to do is the equiv of opening up another credit card in the tax payers name and charge it. then let a little time pass and when the bills roll in to pay back the borrowed money play the victim and use the crisis because 'it's necessary'

watch the transfer of wealth right before your eyes. quinn says cut the pensions first, then will divide up the proceeds from that so-called savings via tax breaks for the corporations. adm is first up. amazing.

OT but important...

Just got word from a source at Finance...

Speed Camera tickets will not be dismissed on M/U//MP/CCSPD/ISP plated vehicles if you can't prove that you were on a Call. The Department will require you file FOIA to get that proof.

Word is also that Finance, CFD and Parks Department got over 500 warnings in the 30 day trial period. They are sitting on the number of CPD squads that got nailed for speeding.

Perhaps we have to start holding Police officers responsible for their lack of crime control?

Or maybe the Cook County judges for letting these fools go when they get caught by the police. Wake up !!!
