No Doubt, an Obama Voter
Some spectacular ignorance on display in the CFD Overtime Issues post:
- lets talk about how insignificant your union is? There is one union that represents the bargaining unit of the Chicago Fire Dept its called local 2.It covers all ranks up to and including Battalion Chief.WE have a manning and No acting clause. That means these fire apparatus must be properly manned at all times and no acting out of rank.If these is a gap in manpower OT must occur to fill those spots. You people found it productive to have an FOP a sergeants a lieutenant and a captains union all bargaining for theor own personal shit seeling each other down the drain. You also have NOBODY in charge of a squad car and when ther eis time due they just down a car and nobody replaces them. There was also a thing called a labor strike in 1980 when the CPD was asked to join with the firefighters but it didnt happen because nobody wanted to put their kickbacks on the street to an end or they didnt have the intestinal fortitude to join in and put this city to a screaching halt.So whatever kind of llabor contract you have you can thank the fireman because through their sacrifice you got the me too clause f simply getting a contract by default.....so go cry me a river...
We don't even know where to start on this one, but they obviously have no idea about CPD operations, FOP history and probably CFD history either. But still running a computer from his mom's basement and commenting where ever his ignorant internet surfing takes him.
Usually, we'd just flush these comments, but this one was just too good to pass up

Well it was a fireman... Now I usually will never agree with those loudmouth know it alls I do agree with his comment.. He is right. We do sell ourselves out to each other. And I kid, most firemen are decent just like police, but both sides employ major dildos.. You know, the cops and firemen who overplay the I'm a hero roll way too much. And the firemen who tell girls at the bar how they are so torn up about 9/11 still as if they were there which is a major slap in the face to those that were.. One kid was talking all about 9/11 to a girl and he was in college with me when it happened.. Then he tries that bulldhit with us and tries to play hero .. Dork. So cops and fireman are equally annoying but this guy is on to something
Hey Clown CPD does not have a me 2 clause and maybe you should learn how to use spell check while at the firehouse.
What an asshole fireman. Obviously couldn't pass a police test with that grammar.
God made "POLICE" because firemen need heros too
Contract by default...sounds more like the coppers back then were smart and let the fire fighters do the dirty work.
Is this guy part of the 'After 2am Club'?
This author is a shining example of what CPS labels a successful high school graduate. According to their records, this graduate tested above and beyond his graduating peers in both reading comprehension and writing.
Actually, I have tried thanking you guys .... Every time I manage to get a free moment between the murders and mayhem I stop by the fire house to say thanks but you're either eating or sleeping and don't want to be disturbed.
Eat ... Sleep ...Repeat
I've talked to several firemen and a lot of them don't get the fact that this city is trying to screw with the pension, further more defend Rham and think is okay for people who are perfectly healthy to not work and continue to get free loading from the government. It makes me sick that people just don't get it.
This guy must be one of the guys hired after that big lawsuit. You know the group of people too dumb to pass the test...... no worries we have our goofs as well.
First CPD Patrolmen have NO "Me To Clause", and they never had such creature! The only people who have that are ranking "Sgt's, LT's and up along with firemen".
Thanks to Dan Rostenkowski Policemen and Firemen DO NOT receive social security and are NOT eligible for benefits. Those men and women who paid into social security will have greatly Diminished benefits as told to me by the social security agent! Today if the politicians have their way you won't even have a pension, they need the funds for for other entitlements, these people have paid their share without fail for years and now Rahm and Madigan want to take away what they Policemen and Firemen have already paid for out of their pay checks! They have time and time again have passed laws to "Forgive" their required contribution. Now Rahm wants to forgive the city's share until he's out of office! I say they earned it pay them! Can this state have more people on welfare than taxpayers which we already have thanks to you Dumbocrats! What next pass another law denying Policemen and Firemen welfare when you steal their paid for pensions! Daley was the biggest crook and should be in jail but the revolution is coming people can only take so much corruption, graft and stealing before they push back!
Take my pension Rahm, Madigan or any other corrupt Illinois politician and we will get our pound of flesh! You will awaken a sleeping giant a voting block that will take NO prisoners! Do you really want to piss off your first responders!
Bwhahahahaha!
We don't even have a me too clause. Our lawyers stated that they didn't think it was necessary.
If only they did.
That mouth breather in no way represents the hard working men and women of the CFD. We're all in this together.
You couldn't pay me enough to do a cops job. No offense intended. The shit you guys and gals deal with on a daily basis would put me in the funny farm......or worse.
Let's not forget that the Police Department has some world class morons on it too. It's going to hurt to see the venom spilled on this thread. Wish you'd have flushed this one. Divide and conquer. Divide and conquer.
First of all, this guys needs to have his comment's proof read.
Did your parents have any children that lived ?
Loved the comments from the retired Hose Jockey. I am a 91-8er, that mentality is why the Old Salts used to say "Kid, firemen ain't our friends."
I hate to hear about Blue Flu. The Guys who taught me this job said We don't strike!
The CFD could have done something else other than strike in '80..they endangered the entire city with that reckless action.
The B.O.B. Firemen are assholes.
All this post tends to do is bring on anti fire department comments.
Keep in mind that this is just one individual, as SCC puts it, " commenting where ever his ignorant internet surfing takes him."
Consider that ignorant source, and don't stoop down to that level as well.
"Move along now, nuttin' to see here."
Just a tip for you. All firemen voted for Obama.
From one who knows....
Hey dickhead, we DO have a ME-TOO clause, maybe you should READ the contract instead of playing on the 'puter!

Not only an Obamabot Voter but a shining example of a CPS *Honor Student* to boot. There's so many spelling and punctuation errors it'd be COMICAL, if it wasn't so fucking sad.
If I wrote like that, I'm sorry but it is really pathetic, I'd be ashamed to post anything to the Internet. Hell, I wouldn't even make a shopping list.

America's heroes, just ask them.
The sad part is that its true, just look at the comments being made at the author, coppers do that to each other on a daily basis. Coppers dont have the balls to stand up for themselves but they have all the courage to help others and do the job what ever it takes. A retired PO.
Oh Danny Boy.
Having joined the CPD in the late 70's and having experienced the Fire Strike, I would have to disagree which the posters remarks about the strike. That being said, I have to totally agree with his comments about union representation. When the supervisors pushed and won the right to representation the original representation issue was to be included in the FOP. This was completely shot down by the then FOP president. The next idea was to have all supervisors included in a supervisors only bargaining unit. Turncoat and snake, R. Sodini, then President of the Sgt."s fraternal unit made outrageous demands and that fell by the wayside. Sodini was then promoted to Commander as a reward from City Hall. That is why we have this patch work of labor representation. The old divide and conquer strategy has worked quite well for City Hall, especially the Midget. So, yes, the poster is correct, due to the selfish actions of a few we in the CPD are all pitted against each other when it comes to labor negotiations. Don't even get me started on O"Neil , he makes Benedict Arnold seem like a saint.
why will cps students receive bonus points on the next police test , it doesn't make any sense
The "Me too" clause plays right into the administrations hands. Think about it, you basically have one bargaining unit doing the bargaining for all the police/fire unions. The first union to come to an agreement has locked in all the other unions to the same deal!
Because of the "me too" clause no one will get a "better" deal because then everyone else gets it & the city will never do that!
The "me too" clause sounds good at first but if you give it some thought its a bad deal all the way around......

Might want to rethink the "intelligent" part...
I was a beat cop when the CFD went on "strike". I never thought that I would see any fireman act like some of them did. When CPD had to respond to a disturbance with CFD, they treated us like shit. Up until then, I was a big fan of fireman, I thought they were tough as hell, strong as hell and crazy as hell to run into a burning building. I lost a lot of respect for CFD during that strike. I hope that the comment was not really from a firefighter, we don't need another period of hate between us. Please officers, let this one go, its stupid and probably written by the mayors office to start shit between us.
Sleep until you're hungry and eat until you're sleepy!
Obviously this guy(if in fact he is a fireman)does not know his history of the CFD. Back when the firemen went on strike(1980's) and left the citizens of this city to go f--k themselves the CPD had to work 12 hour shifts and guard the firehouses so that the CFD picketers wouldn't go into the firehouses and damage the equipment when the so-called scabs went out to fight a fire. The strikers begged to come back to work when then Mayor Jane Byrne wouldn't cave into their demands. The fire dept. was never the same since and they had to separate the scabs from the strikers in the aftermath of the strike. The strike was not backed by the major unions because a majority of the same firefighters that do electrical work, carpentry, and truck drivers' jobs were not part of the unions of these trades. The CPD had collective bargaining and a contract long before the CFD and they(CFD) were the ones that had a me too clause with their original contract when they finally got one. The CPD didn't go out on strike because they lawfully couldn't, just as the firemen were not(lawfully) supposed to.
If the firemen back then knew what they knew after the strike they never would have done it.
The CFD is totally different now because all of the strikers back in the 80' have retired by now.
Sounds like a "Baby Bob" to me. Just stick to putting CFD stickers on your car and telling BS stories at the bar. These guys are truly something else...The "Baby Bob" probably has 2 years on the job and thinks everything is owed to him.
Obviously written by a mentally impaired ff, who has no clue what their ILLEGAL strike was really about. That strike was orchestrated by the daley mafia to deliberately make Mayor Byrne look bad, she gave in to their demands on day 2, but they found more issues to use. As far as the manning of apparatus, they screwed themselves in the long run. No more "leave the firehouse for emergencies at home, etc." aka as early ducks.
RE: Obama voter, there millions upon millions of them across the country. Very many of them are are intelligent upper middle class professionals and upper class community leaders.

Replace "intelligent" with "naive" and I am in total agreement with you.
He has a point. Atleast they have minimum staffing requirements in their contract. It's a safety issue. They are fully staffed.
We are at what 70% staffed? Maybe?
We need to get on our union. For example it's really dangerous for coppers in 016 when there are only 4 beat cars available for the midnight shift.
We need staffing requirements in our next contract. It would force the city to hire more cops or hire us back at time and a half to have cars filled.
Hello? Little mikey are you listening.
P.S. I still can't get a day off.
most fireman i know are not demorats, and they know rahm wants to screw them to!
If a fireman did write this, it's a fireman who is pretty clueless about his contract.
Wow! How much to drink? Lol can't be a real fireman, nope has to be a troll trying to get us coppers riled up, but funny hanks for the laugh as usual sprits of the air SCC!
Push back is coming no doubt about it the media politicians trying to drive a wedge between working people don't let them succeed stick together and make these bastards pay.
Take my pension Rahm, Madigan or any other corrupt Illinois politician and we will get our pound of flesh! You will awaken a sleeping giant a voting block that will take NO prisoners! Do you really want to piss off your first responders!
You are dreaming. First we dont have a unified voting block and second and most important we have no support from 90% of the voters who could care less about our pensions. Most dont have a good pension and sure dont want to support ours with their tax money. And that is reality
Politicians will gain more votes than lose them by enacting pension reform
yea, a real union guy. Probably one of the many firemen that crossed the union picket lines when the union was picketing McCormick Place.

You mean the ones you sit next to every night. What does that say about your brain power.
CFD is only a "sister" agency when it is to their benefit and CPD bosses let them get away with it
I hate to tell you but the author is correct. That is an an accurate account on what happened in 1980. There were plenty of guys that were bag men and were worried about their money. CFD did get us the "me clause." You may not like it but its true. Another thing we don't need 3 different unions. There's strengths in numbers. Unfortunately, CPD morale has been successfully assassinated through three events. First, the elitist mindset that you need a college diploma to be promoted. We have had many of good bosses NOT promoted because of the college requirements. At the same time we have had many BAD bosses promoted because they had a college degree. Look at the command staff how many were ever the Real Police? Next when we rotated as a watch from days to midnights to afternoons we were tight. Our morale was great and we took care of each other not back stabbed each other. Lastly, the destruction of our uniform. We had great looking stars and took pride in our uniform. Now you have these hair gels looking like there in Afghanistan. Pride in you're uniform goes a long way. We look like slobs. One more year to go.
He's right in a lot of ways. They have the " me too clause." That's golden. They stick together, Fireman, Engineers, Lts, etc..... We have been divided and conquered, but Rahm is working on them. Santiago is a puppet. Very weak. Rahm's going to ram it up CFD' s ass first and then ours.
Sorry SCC the Fireman is right. We don't need 3 unions. We sold out in 1980.
I was okay with what this guy was saying (even though it appeared to be a drunken midnight rant) until this:
"There was also a thing called a labor strike in 1980 when the CPD was asked to join with the firefighters but it didnt happen because nobody wanted to put their kickbacks on the street to an end or they didnt have the intestinal fortitude to join in and put this city to a screaching halt."
I also came on in the 70's and vividly remember the Fire strike. I remember standing the line in front of a firehouse at Damen and Grace. A striker spit in my face that day. It was the only time I was spit on even though I worked Gangs West and A/4 VC in a 30 year career. There were alot of hard feeling between the police and fire departments after that strike.
But I digress. The writer obviously was not on the job during that time or he would remember that the firefighters went on strike even though Mayor Jane Byrne promised both the Fire and Police contracts. They demanded one immediately upon her taking office. She said setting up the process would take time (determine bargaining units, labor boards, etc.) but it would get done. The firefighters didn't like that so they went on strike and wanted the police to join them. We declined, most of us feeling we could not in good conscious leave the city unprotected.
We were going to get a contract anyway...the firefighters were just acting like spoiled children stomping their feet and holding their breaths until they got their candy bar.
I'm glad to see that wounds have healed with the newer generations of police and firefighters. But to many of my generation the strike is still an open wound that will never heal.
Hey knuckleheads, we do have minimum staffing.
Tell your WC you will not work 99.
As a pround member of the CFD and Local 2, can you please ignore the unintelligent rant of this obvious drunken idiot. We aren't all like him.
Right on Brother!!! 10 1/2 hour shifts, cargo pants and officers running around in fatigues? No unity there. The B.S. About machine guns, like anyone is really gonna shoot it off! Kissing ass to get on a Tac team is nothing new, but why waste your time, you won't be appreciated. Contact cards? Write one out anytime a sgt. or lt. Leaves out early or fucks up. Just don't sigh it. Send a copy to McCarthy and one to the mayor. Nothing makes a boss shit himself like a mayor's complaint.
Rise up brothers and sisters!!!
Some people won't like to hear this but we would NEVER have gotten a contract if the firemen hadn't gone on strike, that aside the only time I remember the "me too" thing having a major effect was when firemen got duty availability after we went to arbitration, finally; consider the source the F...... F.....n on the license plates says it all
Well we are police officers. We do not hold the citizens of our city hostage as a bargaining chip. We are here to defend them and our city. Yes, I know alot of these citizens can not stand us, but that is irrelevant. Yes I wish we had some huge Ace up our sleeve like a strike but we do not. For me and the rest of my family who are on the job we will never ever leave our city and neighborhood swinging in the breeze due to a work action.

Ummm.....which isn't even part of what we covered in the posting. But thanks for your brilliant insight into the CPS Reading Comprehension numbers.
Has anyone else notice the dept has stopped our ability to look up persons shot and shots fired jobs on the pdt? i.e. "USM T/PERSHO" and "USM T/SHOTSF" don't work anymore. Maybe they don't want the media tipped, or maybe they don't want us to be aware of possible violence erupting in the neighboring district. Thanks Garry.
After seeing the bullshit in Detroit, I'd have to say good luck.
To the person who said we sold out in 1980. Were you on the job then? I wasn't, but I came on in 82. Prior to that contract, your DOG group could be changed before your weekend among other things. I got orders that said, "until further notice." There was no 90 day detail clause. I along with many others fought to get that right in the contract. My detail lasted for 11 months. When I got back to my unit, I got detailed out again because nobody knew who I was. I also fought to get FOP decertified. I had death threats and had my car vandalized in the district parking lot. I just wanted people to have an option and have a vote, a say in whom they wanted to represent them. When FOP got back in, I was sent a letter that in essence said that if I ever pulled a stunt like that again, I would be kicked out of FOP and pay fair share. I saw a lot. It seems that whomever gets in as FOP President or on the Board, those they represent are forgotten. Remember something: protect your future pension and healthcare benefits. Do not be blinded by the money you may get today. The city WILL take away your protections that those of us have worked for in he past to get you what you have today. Look to tomorrow's benefits, for you and your family's financial wellbeing. Blessings to all the hardworking men and women on this Department. Keep fighting the good fight.
Such union brethren....they make their living of side jobs that undermine union electricians, plumbers, and so on. They need to go to hire everyone taking the test and go to eight hour days.
We used to play Kelly High School in football. I also used to play sixteen inch softball at Kelly Park.
It is painful to see what it has become.
