Springfield Antics Again

Now that the legislature has disposed of the pressing social issue of our time that affects maybe 2-or-3% of the population, pension stuff is on the front burner again:
  • Illinois House lawmakers were told Monday to return Dec. 3 to Springfield, where they would be in position if legislative leaders reach a compromise on overhauling the state's public employee pension system.

There have been reports of progress but no deal in the ongoing pension talks, and Senate leaders have tentatively scheduled a return Dec. 3-4 should a pension compromise be reached.

There was no mention of what House lawmakers would do in the letter sent by Speaker Michael Madigan's chief of staff, who told members to prepare for a one-day session next Tuesday.
There will be a load of stuff coming through all sorts of media outlets, social media sites, official union sites and other sites like this one. Keep a sharp eye out for info.

Illinois has 138,000 less people employed today (Oct 2013) than the state did a year ago (Oct 2014)- despite an improving economy. Our leaders are failing at their jobs.

With less workers means less tax revenue. I don't see the State cutting much so pensions are left to be squeezed

Interesting reading. The Labor Board ruling is now available online. You can read that the city attorney Franczek's sent the boys at FOP a letter regarding the failure of Shields to send the city the letter for retro and bargaining. The ILRB stated the union either turned a blind eye or decided the letter was of no importance. Either way the appeal of the decision is purely a political move to gain some cover by Shields. After reading the decision you will see there is no chance of winning. Shields will waste our money playing politics. A real man would have resigned by now.

I'm not saying the pension mess isn't a real problem but the numbers the doom and gloom politicians are bantering about aren't realistic numbers. In fact they're grossly inflated. The numbers are based on if everyone within the pension system were to retire at the same time... then those ridiculous numbers would come into play.
For a myriad of different reasons it's impossible for that to happen. Yet the doom and gloom politicians keep harping on those inflated numbers to help rile up the public and help the thieving politicians degrade our constitutionally protected pension benefits.
Once again the lying, thieving politicians want to "adjust" the numbers to help their cause.

Self promoter Carlos Cortez did everyone a favor when he brought up charges on Shields. In the course of that investigation it was learned that any of the Vice Presidents could have signed the letter too. That includes Bill Dougherty, Frank DiMaria, and Daniel Gorman. PLEASE do not vote for any of these people either.

Carlos Cortez stated he was going to bring up charges on the rest of the executive board by the end of the week. That would have been 20 Sep 13. Carlos did not do that.

So who on the executive board was Carlos working for? Until he gives up who he did this for do not vote for any of the Executive Board Vice presidents:Dougherty, Frank DiMaria, and Daniel Gorman.

In fact open up your FOP book cover and do not vote for anyone that was with the City-wide team or for that matter anyone on that inside cover.

The city doesnt want that money going into the pension. They would rather have it mandated to come from property taxes as mandated in SB3538 so they can squirm out of it or get a delay by announcing the citys share of property taxes would have to double when they are mandated to make a 600 million dollar payment in 2016
All gaming goes to the children, the CPS whose teachers only pay two percent of their pay into the pension and the CPS pays the remaining 7% thru our subsidizing them through property taxes

Totally not true. They did not use the pension money as a bank account. The reason the pension is in such bad shape is the city for at least the last 25 years has not contributed their share into the fund, That is the reason

Mark Donahue make me laugh. When Shields refused to send the city the letter why didn't Donahue, Dougherty, Aguilar or Dimaria stand up at the next union meeting and announce to the members they represent what the ramafications of Shields inaction would be on us. I'll tell you why, they were all worried about losing their spots. Had one of them opened their mouth Shields would have thrown them out of the office and they would lose their captains pay and Mark Donahue would have lost his $75,000 a year co lobbyist pay. WTF!!! Really, we got something for a $25 million bribe.

Richie Daley makes a phone call and gets $25 million of OUR MONEY so he could pay off his pals.

All that really changed is that the percent of what you gained every year became the same.

Before this you earned 2.5% pension/annuity for the first 20 years. After 20 years you only earned 2% pension/annuity to a maximum of 75%.

Why should those last years have been worth any less that the previous years? We got shafted again. Richie took OUR MONEY to pay off his pals just like the parking meters and destroying Meigs Field to build high risers in the glide path.

Funny thing, I heard that Richie is now working for the law firm that represents Chicago Parking Meters LAZ. I bet he couldn't remember shit about that deal if anyone asked.

That shit about paying in to pension shorter and drawing from it longer is vile garbage.

You can't possibly be an employee of the police or any other public agency hoping not to get robbed by the crooks raiding the funds for decades, paying 7 figure commissions to connected so-called fund managers taking payment even when their investments didn't yield a dime.

You have to be some asshole, seriously, to not realize some basic facts about police pension funds.
When an employer hires you and establishes a benefits and retirement package to augment compensation, that's not some benevolent charitable act, that's part of what you are to be compensated in exchange for service and labor. In this case a dangerous job, one with a high level of stress, and one which will offer few guarantees that you'll ever settle into the
routine and luxury of a normal work place.

If we've seen improvements to the terms of our pension, such as being able to take 50 percent at 50 years of age, guess what? That's not what's breaking the pension or causing it to risk insolvency.

It pisses me off that the public doesn't understand where these contributions come from, considering that the second largest contribution to our pension fund, after employee deductions is unused benefit due to death.

FY for saying that we ought to be forced to stay on and pay longer so we can draw less. We didn't mismanage or not pay in as required.

As it is, my retirement won't last very long and statistically speaking, I'll be dead way sooner than the time it took me to pay in.

man this town hates us almost as much as we seem to hate ourselves.  It's more proof what lying hypocrites the democrats show themselves to be every time they claim to be looking out for the worker.

Nowhere did I say "that we ought to be forced to stay on and pay longer so we can draw less." Nowhere did I claim we mismanaged or didn't pay into the fund.

But, if you can count, and maybe add and multiply, too, it is obvious that people who work more years contribute more money, in total, to the fund, thereby creating a bigger fund.

It is also obvious that people who work 29 years and leave, statistically will draw more money from the fund than those who stay a few more years.

Now, while this is fine when the economy is booming and the fund is making money hand over fist, it has a much greater impact when the investment return on the money is just about nil.

Add in: Rahm's plan to keep fewer cops on the job in the future means even FEWER people paying into the fund and fewer MATCHING contributions made by the City, so it's a double loss.

I get that you're worried and defensive, but this is simple math, not somebody attacking your value and work ethic and whatever else you were going on about.

Simply put, less money paid into the fund by us and by the City, leaves less money to invest and brings in less return on that investment. You might not like it, but it's the current situation we're all in. Yes, I said 'we'. We need more contributors to the fund, we need the City to pay in the amount they are legally required to and to catch up on what they have failed to pay in, and we need better fund management in the future.
