- The Mag Mile condo that Mayor Richard M. Daley and wife Maggie briefly lived in has sold for $2.73 million. The three bedroom, three and a half bath, 3,500 square foot condo at 77 E Walton Avenue was listed in August 2012 for $2.75 million. The couple moved in to the unit in May 2011, and the former mayor vacated the condo in June the following year, several months after Maggie Daley lost to her struggle with cancer. The unit was last held by the building developer who purchased the condo from Daley after his departure.
Details of Daley's relationship with developer JMB Realty are slim, however at the time of listing, Da Mayor's investment firm Tur Partners had offices on the 17th floor of the building. Quite convenient.
Thank goodness someone was able to turn a profit in the stagnant real estate market. We all know how Shortshanks was hurting for money since leaving public office.
This good fortune for the former mayor doesn't seem to have hit the big media outlets yet for some reason. Anyone know way?

It is a good thing to see someone who has devoted their entire life to public service to receive a slight monetary reward. The mayor emeritus could have been a rich man if he had of gone into banking, business or the law. Instead he sacrificed most of his adult life working for the citizens of Chicago

Our pension has been used as a giant piggybank for them to give our money away, Vanecko dales nephew killed a kid, and took over 60 million of our money from the pension fund but the doofus roams free!
The media won't touch the story of how Maggie Daley park is in actuality a reconstruction project for the parking garage beneath it that the=y going to put playground equipment on top of when finished. All a reporter would have to do is analyze the costs...........

The way that I prefer that Daley escapades hit the news, is when it's announced by the US Attorney for the Northern District as his basis for indictment of Shortshanks.
Ditto for the Madigans, Quinn, Cullerton, Gutierrez and the rest of their ilk.
Nothing Negative about "Da Mare" please! Especially since they are about to shove a massive project in the memory of "Mrs. Da Mare" down our throats. The real estate market in Chicago is actually doing quite well at the moment. Especially in the "good areas". So it's not a surprise that Daley fetched that amount.
The suburbs are not appreciating at the rate Chicago is but I'm guessing they will catch up.

Yes, he sacrificed so much for this beloved town. A man with all his talents and wisdom; he could have built his own empire in the private sector and accumulated an enormous amount of wealth. Instead, he took a humble public service position working long hard hours receiving little compensation or benefits. A true "man of the people".

JMB is not owned by Jerry Reinsdorf. It is owned by Neil Bluhm, who also owns Rivers Casino, and Judd Malkin. Reinsdorf was there when the company was founded, but left shortly thereafter to found Balcor, another real estate syndicator.

People say it's an exaggeration to blame Obama for the Chicagoification of America, but the democratic machine is pretty much going to ride their complete control as long and as hard as possible.
Do you see how every arm of government only serves a political end, rather than a national interest?
The IRS goes after political enemies, the intelligence community goes after a guy who made a crappy video just to support a false narrative about why the benghazj compound was attacked.
Now the former Virginia governor has the weight of the U.S Dept. Of Justice, now another political weapon, seeking to crush him for receiving gifts from a wealthy friend!

Remember that the Virginia governor was the first recipient of the good fortune of an election that started and set in motion the very shocking and embarrassing turnaround so soon after Obama's first win. That governor loudly gloated that the president coming to Virginia to campaign for his opponent wasn't enough to prevent a Republican victory.
The same would happen in New Jersey, where
Obama's efforts weren't enough to prevent Chris Christie from defeating Jon Corzine, another Democrat who has avoided criminal prosecution for his role in the "loss" of a staggering hundreds of millions of dollars as head of MF Global. And yet, we see Chris Christie having to contend with federal investigators with the media in tow blowing smoke.
Consider also the case of Dineesh Dsouza, the film maker who attracted huge attention with his anti-obama documentary. He also made obama's targeted enemies list and now suddenly stands accused of having exceeded campaign donation limits in some local election several years ago. It would seem whatever agency investigates election law violation had the time and resources to dig into Dsouza until they found something but doesn't
Seem to care about all of Barry Soetero's foreign source donations "bundled" and funneled throughout the 2008 and 2012 election.
They also won't do anything about Penny Pritzker giving obama the gift of a mansion in Hawaii.

An Ohio woman with a history of prostitution was charged Saturday with stabbing Brother Rice High School business teacher Alan Filan to death at his home in Orland Park last weekend.
Authorities said Alisha Walker, 20, of Akron, Ohio, admitted stabbing Filan.
Filan taught at Brother Rice, in Mount Greenwood on Chicago’s South Side, for nearly 40 years and headed the school’s business studies department. He also coached soccer at Andrew High School in Tinley Park for more than 10 years, through the 2009-10 school year.
Filan’s older brother is lobbyist William Filan, whose clients include the city of Chicago. His younger sister, Denise Filan, is a Cook County judge assigned to the Bridgeview courthouse. He’s a cousin of former state budget director John Filan.

If you work in 1832, you'll frequently see Shanks and son in the neighborhood.
I believe Shanks' daughter is living in the south loop townhome and, yes, Shanks and wife lived at 77, not at 800. Billy lives north of there somewhere.
Not sure where Shanks relocated to, although I saw him walking out of 77 several weeks ago. Perhaps he has a friend there, unless he ended up moving back.
As for Shanks' bat wielding son, I think he has an office in the commercial portion of the JMB building. He's always in and out of the place. It does my heart good knowing that he built a name for himself without any help.

North Korea is very far from being socialist.
Socialism is an economic system and not a system of governance. Saying a state is a socialist state simply implies that it, in some manner or another, redistributes wealth to achieve a more equal balance of living standards across it's populace.
North Korea has a very poor underclass, not even the vaguest attempt at redistributon there.
But dictatorship, now you hit the nail on the head. A dictatorsip is a form of government in which a ruler or small clique wield absolute power (not restricted by a constitution or laws).
That certainly fits North Korea.

Bottom line, who really cares where she spent her final night? The discussion, I thought, was about Shanks' living arrangement at 77.
