Congratulations FBI

  • Five people said to be part of a New York crime family were arrested today. including a 78-year-old man accused of participating in a notorious 1978 airport heist that inspired the movie "Goodfellas."

More than three decades after $5 million in cash and $1 million in jewelry was stolen from a Lufthansa airlines cargo building at John F. Kennedy International Airport, the FBI arrested Vincent Asaro, an alleged leader of the Bonanno organized crime family, on robbery charges.
How about directing some of that investigative effort at the 5th Floor of City Hall here?

Our heroes the FBI. We have terrorists trying to kill innocent people, we have politicians running organizations more corrupt than the mob ever was. Maybe they can reopen the Lindbergh kidnapping case.

To former U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald: your grade as the head of the Northern District of Illinois is an incomplete.

Over 30 years to clear this case? HOLY SHIT!
If they were smart, they could have cleared the case in 1990 when Goodfellas came out.

Did some young, new whippersnapper find this movie on a bootlegged Bluray and figure out this caper?

I can't believe how incredibly incompetent the FBI is. Take the Al Capone case for instance. Capone was a one man crime wave and a perpetrator of illegal smugling, murder, bribery, loansharking, theft, extortion, arson ect.... and the only thing they arrested him on was tax evasion? Come on...seriously? That's the defintion of competence on display.

Some how I think that this Federal Bureaucracy of Investigation cost us well over $6 million through out these three decades.

I doubt that the victim/owners, the insurers or the citizens/taxpayers will get any of it back.

What did these hoods do with the money? I don't think they lived a very high life. They hung around clubs and talked bullshit mostly. Did they put kids through college or anything else with all that money. Or did most of it get passed onto some mob Don's hands, like money in Chicago politics.

>>> 'For as long as I can remember I always wanted to be a gangster.' <<<

Anywho, the Tribune article and video clip has a teensy error -- a shock I know -- the Lufthansa Heist by Jimmy 'The Gent' Burke (Conway in the movie) & his crew didn't 'inspire' the movie Goodfellas. The robbery was part of Henry Hill's story, turned into the book, 'Wiseguy' by Nicholas Pileggi, and that book 'inspired' the movie 'Goodfellas' by Martin Scorsese.

Anywho2, I'm glad the FBI stayed on this case and got that dastardly old mobster. Granted the statute of limitations expired decades ago and they didn't recover one red cent -- Burke hid the loot like it was pirate treasure, and the Feebs spent more in man hours than the hesit was worth, and can't prosecute this guy for anything -- except maybe the murders though proving that now is next to impossible -- but hey the Feebs hang tough, and hell it was only taxpayer money they were burning through anyway so yeah, fuck it, lets 'solve' the Lufthansa heist and get some 'good press'! (run-on sarcasm; /off)
