Retiree Shot

  • A retired Chicago police officer was shot in a home invasion in the East Side neighborhood just before midnight Monday.

Police said the man, 73, was inside his home at 115th Street and Avenue G when two men broke in and asked him about a safe.

The retired officer told them where the safe was and he was shot anyway, police said.

He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in serious-to-critical condition with a neck wound.

Police said the two suspects entered the home through an unlocked door and escaped out a side door. Neither are in custody.
The article says "officer," but a commentator says "sergeant." In any event, best wishes to the wounded retired Officer. Hopefully, we find the bastards that can't even leave a retired couple alone.

How often does it turn out that these home invaders are poor oppressed minorities, that are jobless and without a future? Abandoned by the government and a racist society they just trying to survive and maybe collect enough money to get some education and get ahead in life. Social and income inequality at work here.

Hoping for the best for the unlucky homeowner and a quick recovery.

Reports of "10 wounded, 1 fatality" during yesterday's spring-like 50 degree weather! Uh-oh, time for a "new strategy" press conference. Let's put more desk officers on the street (no we did that); let's make the commanders walk the beat (we did that too); let's start a new unit and don't call it TRU- yeah that's it! Police brass at its finest.

The Sgt was elderly had severe health issues and was blind, and they STILL shot him. With the manpower issues we have our only protection for our families is yourself and your neighbors. 016 and 022 are not immune either. By generating revenue and working V.R.I. you are playing right into Rahms hands and not forcing adequate manpower in all DIstricts. If this isn't a wake up call I don't know what is.

Hey Emmanuel, McCarthy, why don't you go on WGN and us tell everybody about last night statistics - compared to March 10, 2013?!

What's that? Oh, you don't want to. That would show shootings are up over 110%.

Ah, I understand, it's just when the numbers APPEAR to be in your favor that you shout from the rooftops how good a job you two are doing.

Why don't you come clean and just admit to everyone the numbers you throw out there is just a political game you're playing?

Hey, what's so funny? Why are you two laughing?! What? Oh, if you told everyone THAT, then the gig would be up! I get it.

How do you guys do it?! How do people believe the shit you two say?

Okay now, why are you making a sheep sound? And you're laughing so hard again? Rahm, why are saying "Bah bah" over and over?

Oh I get it NOW! People are sheep! They just need a leader to lead them, they'll believe anything you tell them.

OT--

HERE WE GO AGAIN -- WINTER STORM WARNING FROM 10 PM TONIGHT TO 1 PM TOMORROW

Up to 8 - 10 inches of snow, 'near blizzard conditions'

9:30 a.m. CDT, March 11, 2014

A storm moving across the central plains is expected to hit the Chicago area with up to 8 inches of heavy snow, "near blizzard conditions" in some places and even a few bouts of thundersnow before it all ends late Wednesday morning.

The heaviest amount, possibly up to 10 inches, will fall to the south of Chicago. Anywhere from 4 to 8 inches are expected across much of the area...

The snow could fall at a rate of 2 inches an hour overnight. Winds [out of northeast] gusting to 40 mph through Wednesday morning will lead to considerable blowing and drifting snow with near blizzard conditions at times...

It will start as rain later today, then turn to sleet and heavy wet snow as temperatures drop into the 20s this evening.... The heavy snow will continue through the morning commute Wednesday...

Stay safe out there.

Chicago is just like Detroit thirty-five years ago. I lived in Detroit thirty-five years ago, and the same thing is now happening in Chicago. The last white middle-class areas of the city are evaporating, and soon the ghetto will encompass all but the lakefront areas. And with Chicago's finances in the toilet, there really isn't much too be optimistic about.

Prayers for the recovery of the Sergeant and for his wife.

This is another example of what happens with McHatchetman taking our police away from our neighborhoods. Last week a Lt. in 025 may have surprised a crew in her home that took a safe with guns inside. (Look out in alleys for discarded safes.)

Before I retired and left town I suggested that the CAPS Office do something actually useful. Maybe get together with the Chaplains and find retired cops still living in the city and keep an eye out for them. Every regular on each Beat Car should get to know them and let them know they are not forgotten. Talk to them, listen to their stories and maybe invite them to district events and picnics. Have them checked on and if they want it a list of contacts kept.

Stay Safe, there is no worse fate that to be old, alone and forgotten.

Exactly. You don't pick a random house and then demand to be lead to the safe.
There was a home invasion up North recently where the offenders were either ABT delivery men or were tipped off to the house by ABT delivery people.

Amen to that... God Bless the Sergeant and his wife.

Your heat should be at the ready and carefully concealed, hidden in plain sight, can't be found by kids is the way to go.

If you have a safe for the rest of your guns and valuables conceal it behind an easily removed false wall or even just a false wall panel will probably do. You may want to put them in a fire resistant box there.

Beside a charged cell phone one more thing is to keep by your bedside is your car alarm remote. If a break-in occurs, hit the car alarm and most likely the offenders will run.

Stay Safe, that cell phone does not even have to be your current active phone. As we all know any call phone will still get 9-1-1.

Yeah, this occurred to me...or some six-times-removed relation with a motor mouth, and this happens.

Remember In Cold Blood? Vengeful jailhouse rumor started off by a disgruntled fired worker about a "safe," and four people died.

Some old folks are supporting a 57-member extended family -- free ATM, free babysitting, free lodging, etc. They were the last of their line to hold a conventional job and save money, so everyone who came after is always hittin on em. Not saying that was the case here, but there's enough of this going on that it's a line to at least look at...

Big deal. A little forgetfulness is no crime. You got your head screwed on a lot tighter than a lot of 20-year-olds I see everyday. OK with the neighbors? Call 'em. Reach out. "I'm going shopping, I'm fine, but can I call you when I hit the driveway when I come back? Nervous about being out here alone."

"Any major dude" will take a couple minutes and make sure you get in OK. "Go ahead, I'll be watching for your lights."

I've been buying from ABT for 30 years, I went there to get away from the shysters in the City. Their prices and service are great. They have a sign in the office: "The answer to every reasonable request will always be yes." Great motto for a business.

At work I was taking a lot of reports of new appliances being wheeled out of apartments soon after delivery. All heavy items, gourmet stoves, expensive refrigerators etc. On a hunch I went back and asked who delivered all the appliances. Same company in the City, Grand Appliance delivered them all.

Whoever did that knew those appliances were there and they had to have the right dolly's etc and experience in moving heavy items in and out fast. Plus a truck. I did supp's and hope the detective's followed up.

Not quite the case. If he missed a year of dues, he could pay the back dues and the current one and be reinstated. So for $70.00 he could still be in the FOP.
Each year around 3 times the retirees application is in the FOP newsletter to remind them. Just sayin

"Someone said Michelle Gallardo is an asshat. I hate the way she pronounces her last name."

Someone else noticed! So funny. I am always afraid that she's going to swallow her tongue trying to pronounce her own last name.

The Doctor Says:

Dont ever let ANY delivery men from any company inside your house. Without a doubt the majority of them will have an I R number. When I had a large delivery of two bedrooms worth of furniture they were told to leave it on the deck, I'll take it from here. That includes the cable guy. I told him to bring it up to the house and that would be fine. He was insistent on coming in to do the finish work at which time I called the company and said either it's done my way or cancel my account. Most of them are mutts and I dont care if I hurt their feelings.

Thanks for all the kind words about us retired old bucks. Most of us really miss the CPD and being the police. You will all realize one day, you will be all retired. Being the police was a calling and still miss it much. The mind can do the work but the body says another.
It can be really hard some days knowing the days of playing police are over.
For all of you still on the street or retired, may God always bless you all.
If I had to do it over again, I would still want to be a member of the great CPD.

Hey Old buck-once the Police-ALWAYS the Police!

And Sarge, Godspeed your recovery!

I've been buying from ABT for 30 years, I went there to get away from the shysters in the City. Their prices and service are great. They have a sign in the office: "The answer to every reasonable request will always be yes." Great motto for a business.
+++++++++++++++
Me too, about 37 years now and never an issue. Salesman-Kenny G. Always the best.

I do have to say though, that their internal head of security is a douche!

As we all know any cell phone will still get 9-1-1.

P.S. To the above dope dealers have taught me a lot about how toc onceal things at the ready in the home. Another thing to have handy is a really good flashlight at the bedside.

I see your point. When things go bad for me, the first thing I think to do is to grab a gun and break into someone's home to steal what they worked for. Then I shoot them for good measure. It's not my fault, because things are not going well for me. It's society's fault that I act in a violent, criminal manner. I'm just collecting enough money for education and to get ahead in life. That's what I need the money for. I can't think of any other way to work for it, especially if there's minority preferential hiring.

You are such a huge fucking moron.

3/11/2014 05:48:00 PM

yes, why are the neighborhoods with a lower crime rate neglected with police protection? Neglect by the City of Chicago Administration is an open invitation for more of this stuff to go on. Then we will have even more violence and more high crime neighborhoods. Taxpayers in lower crime Neighborhoods have every right to be protected as heavily as those in High Crime Neighborhoods, by CPD. It's our Constitutional Right, Equal Protection under the law.
