Cold Yesterday, Wasn't It?
- Three men and a woman were shot in an attack in the Back of the Yards neighborhood Tuesday afternoon. Three others were wounded elsewhere across the city.
Chicago Fire Department ambulances were called to the scene in the 5400 block of South Winchester Avenue, near Garfield Boulevard, about 4:35 p.m. for a report of four people shot, according to a department spokesman.
So let's think about this - if weather has absolutely nothing to do with crime, then this shouldn't be an aberration, seven people shot on a chilly Tuesday, right?
But if weather has a lot to do with crime, then seven shot on a Tuesday should be worrisome, because you'll have 50 shot on a warm weekend.
Which is what is happening. Whoops.

Depends on your definition of "chilly" and "cold". How many of these GSWs were accidentally caused by trying to clean a loaded pistol?
Commander of 009 just can't catch a break.
He's really a good guy and this flare up of shootings is beyond his control but you know McNutty is screaming at him.
I'm sure the 009 district Intelligence/Information officer and the CompStat officers will be working tirelessly to solve all of this.
All I hear is Gary...Mc
making excuses for his BS failures....
its been a judicial problem forever and a day.
During the less violent days of this past weekend, Garry said that his policies to reduce crime were working.
I would like to ask him, if your policies reduced crime during those wintry days, then one conclusion for the recent increases in violence must be that you changed your policies. Why did you change your policies resulting in this mayhem?
ot; look out 211 you just got mr numbers. dep. mcnaughton has a hardon for numbers. he also thinks bikes are a waste of manpower. every district he has worked has uttered a sigh of relief when he left. another merit hack who is out of his league.
Crime is down and we have sufficient resources.
Haven't you been listening to Rahm the Dictator and McNutty?
No plastic bags allowed in chiraq ....thank god I will sleep better tonite
Gonna be a very long hot summer.
"But if weather has a lot to do with crime, then seven shot on a Tuesday should be worrisome, because you'll have 50 shot on a warm weekend."

Rahm said yesterday that it isn't the weather but what is in your heart, what kind of character you have that determines if there are murders in your neighborhood or not.
So maybe Rahm will come to the conclusion that the people in neighborhoods like Englewood are fucked, just plain fucked, and no matter how many millions and billions he throws at them it won't do any good.
How's that War on Poverty going that President Johnson started in 1964? Still handing out freebies; still counting bodies and passing out toe tags.
Garry doesn't need to think it through.
'Twas nice and warm on whatever barstool his ass was parked when these latest "victims" caught bullets.
He probably cares even less than I, or anyone else for that matter, care. This is just a job, nothing more, nothing less. McBarStool knows full well that no one or nothing can change or fix a problem that's much bigger than a manpower-depleted CPD. All we (barely) do is keep a lid on this barrel of shit called 'Chicago' to keep it from overflowing completely. You can thank powers way beyond anyone's individual control for the sorry state of affairs that is Chicago's ghettos. Simply put, you can't help those that don't want help.
Not once has Garry not gotten a paycheck since he got here for his dismal overall performance, nor does he have any control over how the savages continue to thin their own herds. He was originally hired as a hatchet man and, eventually, a fall guy. Simple as that. And he'll soon be gone, replaced by another figurehead that ultimately has no control over anything in the grand scheme of things.
Yeah but look at the GDP growth from all the people shot!
Heh, y'all thought I was joking did ya?
Remember that you heard it here first on Second City Cop blog.

If It Wasn't For Obamacare, Q1 GDP Would Be Negative
Here is a shocker: for all the damnation Obamacare, which according to poll after poll is loathed by a majority of the US population, has gotten if it wasn't for the (government-mandated) spending surge resulting from Obamacare, which resulted in the biggest jump in Healthcare Services spending in the past quarter in history and added 1.1% to GDP real Q1 GDP (in chained 2009 dollars), which rose only $4.3 billion sequentially to $15,947 billion, would have been a negative 1.0%!
It's curious how the weather impacted (or rather is used as an excuse to explain) everything but government-mandated healthcare spending in the first quarter.
And of course, for all those who correctly point out that mandatory spending on healthcare, also known as malinvestment, took away from spending on every other discretionary item possible, well... you are right.

So follow the money. The city and Obama borrow money by selling bonds to investment banks.
The banks then flip the bonds for a profit by selling them to people like the managers of our pension funds which means we will be left holding the bag.
The system is rigged. All the GDP growth is funny money created out of thin air.
Prepared for the next increase in taxes because the Obamacare expenses have to be paid when the bills come in.
Rahm's prolly filling out more credit card applications to charge stuff on "for the children" don't ya know.
Lets us this whole crime situation is a great diversion. Meanwhile, rahm and his cohorts are getting busy with all that public booty like pirates in the night. We are all focused on the violent crime and distracted from public official's financial crimes. Resources are devoted to the carnage in the streets while rahm and his ilk are getting up on all that juicy booty like straight up legally sanctioned gangstas. Money talks-everything else walks
It's better to blame the crime/murder rate on global warming. In fact the U.N. already is blaming crime on GW/Climate Change.
Do not bring common sense into Chicago.
Jest as you reported a few minths ago.
" Chicagoland" a Puff Piece for Rahm....
I thought you'd like this article from Crain's Chicago Business:

I think they ought to play the Barnum and Bailey Circus theme whenever our two clowns(Rahm and McNutty) are talking about crime being down.

CITY HALL — City Council progressives are calling for hearings on the accuracy of Police Department crime statistics.
Ald. Scott Waguespack is sponsoring a resolution, which was submitted at Wednesday's City Council meeting, calling for the hearings, backed by his allies in the Progressive Reform Caucus.
The resolution cites the recent audit on crime stats by Inspector General Joseph Ferguson and a Chicago magazine article calling the city's crime stats into question.
The resolution states that "properly collecting and utilizing accurate crime data is a fundamental and integral aspect of CPD’s critical public mission, and is necessary to effectively combat crime, and sustain public trust in law enforcement."
It goes on to say that inaccurate data "cultivates a distorted view as to the actual state of crime and victimization in Chicago" and leads to "a weakening of public confidence."
It calls on the council's Public Safety Committee to hold hearings attended by both Ferguson and Police Supt. Garry McCarthy on the matter.
Ald. Nicholas Sposato (36th), however, withdrew his support from his progressive allies on the resolution.
"I don't want to call the superintendent out on anything," Sposato said. "It doesn't set the right tone."
McCarthy and Mayor Rahm Emanuel have boasted of reductions in crime across the board, and most recently in shootings and murders.
Police spokesman Adam Collins said the department had already complied with the points made in the inspector general's audit. He also attacked the magazine piece as based on "inaccurate and unverified information" and pointed out the writers never even filed Freedom of Information Act requests on crime stats.
"The Chicago Police Department takes the tracking, compiling and reporting of crime data extremely seriously as that information informs our policing strategies and our deployment, and is shared with the public to provide an accurate understanding of crime conditions," Collins said. "We make extensive amounts of crime data available to the public online in a number of formats — which can be broken down citywide, by police district, by neighborhood and even by small areas around a specific address. We are proud that CPD is regarded as the national leader for public transparency in crime data, and appreciate that a recent inspector-general audit affirmed CPD’s CompStat system and crime data."

Chain-store plastic bag ban: 'Just change your behavior'
People throw bags on the ground instead of the garbage, so the City bans the bags. The industry makes a great point, do something to 'change the behavior', don't blame the bag.
Sound familiar Chicago Gun Owners?

Tell me how can these shootings be beyond the commanders control, but not beyond McCarthy's control. Who is naive enough to believe anything a commander or supt can do will affect the shootings in Chicago.
PS As a matter of fact that new unit that was supposed to be combing the social network for information, missed this one. Supposedly the fued was all over Facebook for months.
There is no way to prevent these types of shootings.
I think the next logical step in the fight against crime is to prosecute victims for their involvement in it. Nobody likes criminals or the crimes they commit, but the existing laws have proven insufficient. Limiting the ability for potential victims to defend themselves has obviously not helped, and now with concealed carry, we're in for a rash of victims thinking they can take the law into their own hands. At least we still have gun-free zones, for those who value their safety.
But it's not enough. It's time for a flat-out ban on victimhood. It's now illegal, Mr. and Mrs. Public. Report a crime? Go to jail for that crime. You're at least as culpable as the perpetrator. There wouldn't have BEEN a crime without you. And since crime victims tend to be the law-abiding type, they're more likely to be influenced by the criminalization of victimhood. The outcome will be a drastic reduction in crime. No more rape calls, no more robery calls, and murder? What victim? A happy side benefit will be, other than the bold ones who choose to flaunt their crime, we won't have to listen to those complaining mothers and aunts anymore. People need to stop being such idealists anyway.
Bodies keep doing but my taxes keep going up. Who's keeping the change?
