Baltimore Fights Back

Across the ocean, people are burning these things.
  • Someone in Baltimore, MD has been disabling speed cameras by painting over them.

Several of the areas 47-speed cameras have been repeatedly vandalized by an unknown person.

At street level, Chicago cameras wouldn't stand a chance either. They'd be found in pieces in a recycling yard like those school buses.

Maybe if those "Occupy" type protestors actually railed against the ever encroaching government depriving Americans of freedom, privacy and mugging the people with ever increasing fines/fees, they might have found a little more support among the masses.

Lawlessness is rampant across the nation. Speed cameras is Baltimore, citizens in Connecticut refusing to register their assault weapons and hi-cap magazines, Nevada ranchers refusing to pay government grazing fees, push back to gun laws in New York, and Chicago is a fermenting, bubbling evil broth of discontent threatening to explode any day.

I am dismayed and disgusted to see such vandalism and disrespect for government property and local laws. What is happening to the nation and our people?

It's only a matter of time.
But why would one attack a machine, when attacking the ones who commissioned it would be so much more effective ?

You can easily obtain one of those spraypaint can holders that utility and construction companies use to mark off projects at arms length without bending over.

These devices can then be extended by simply attaching them to a 1" x 2". A piece of string to activate the trigger, and you've got the tool to reach the height at which Chicago's "For The Children" speed cameras are mounted.

Not that I'd ever advocate or participate in such activities ;)

How about just hiring some homeless to to hold the american flag on long sticks in front of them. No damage and I would gladly give them a couple of bucks once in awhile. Beats seeing them with the will work for food sign that is a straight out lie.

Problem is those devices ( and spray paint cans used specifically by those devices) are made to be sprayed upside down.

The red light and speed cameras are video cameras. They are recording all the time. They could be a help in the investigation of vandalism. They may capture an image of the offender or their vehicle. There may be a second camera covering that area. Check it also. Now go catch the bad guy. Thank all LEO's for the work you do.

I'm sorry to have to say it, but it's fantastic that someone is doing this. I figured it would only be a matter of time. What's happening to "the nation and our people" is, they're getting sick of politicians wasting money and finding new ways to tax, spend, and overreach. When the people talk, and the politicians don't listen, that's when speed cameras get painted. It's no different than the original Boston Tea Party. Look it up. Patriots are always considered criminals...until they're not.

Sometimes "lawlessness" is simply the start of revolution. The American Revolution started with "lawlessness." In this case, it's taking back our right not to be watched by the government at all times.

"Just curious. Are these cameras outsourced? If so, the city is paying for every squad car that goes over the speed limit, right? I purposely speed up when I see them, just enough to be over."

From a retired County guy...thanks for the laugh! Good one... Fire Dept do the same thing??

Still don't understand this system and use of speed cameras? They had us stop using Decatur brand radar back in the 80's which could be used in the "Moving" or "Stationary" position. Moving meaning Driving and Stationary meaning Parked.
A rather clumsy unit-half hung out the rear drivers side window facing traffic and the other half-the console type box sat on top of the dashboard.
The dash-top half of the radar unit had a dial, an adjustable setting-say it could be set at 50mph for a 35mph speed limit.

Anything over that 50 and the radar would lock in and then the driver was stopped and ticketed.
Sometimes they would demand to see the radar. No problem-there it was blinking away on top of my dashboard.
With a little experience, the unit worked pretty well. Motorists just couldn't believe we could catch them while we were "moving" though. Took awhile for them to get used to that 'modern technology'.
Worked great on midnights-in the Stationary position as you could (relax and) set the speed at say 20 over the posted limit. And then close your eyes-because of course you didn't want to get blinded by oncoming traffic.

But the damn thing would go off with no car in sight-in either direction! Obviously a ghost reading of sort...so just reset it (and relax again).

Weather permitting, and again on midnights the drivers side window would be part way or all the way down anyway so you could hear the car approaching (usually) and that at least got your attention to watch the radar unit and speed it was reflecting.
If at all doubtful, disregard, reset it again and close your eyes to again avoid being blinded by that even though sparse, oncoming traffic.
So as time went on, because of the ghost readings and probably the work of those lecherous traffic court attorneys scouring the hallways, it became practice that you had to "...test the radar immediatly before its use and after the stop-isn't that correct Officer?" Which of course you did with the issued tuning fork.

Point being I wouldn't bet my life on just the radars indicated speed without actually observing the car to be travelling excessively fast or passing other cars.
That automatic lock radar system was swapped for hand held speed guns and then LIDAR which was more pin-point in picking out the speeder. Some cars had moving radar for cars coming up from behind and of course approaching the squad car. That was fun...you know-for those drivers who would travel come flying up from behind and then stay a few car lengths behind the marked car, keeping a cautious distance?? There was front and rear mounted cameras too.
Everthing on it was operated manually which became more reliable.
$$$$$$$$$$$
So how does the City get away with an unmanned use of a speed device when anyone whose ever operated a radar unit knows there are ghost readings and the units are obviously not calibrated before and after each stop....
Are they ever calibrated?
Whose speed is actually being recorded when there is a car being followed by a large truck or school bus?
And why havent those lecherous traffic court attorneys scouring the hallways challenged this use?

Thanks for listening to this retired guy and be safe out there!

just saying. not like we could organize or anything...

Wait, SCC... aren't those actually the things that the Occupy Movement did try and call out the government for? "Maybe if those "Occupy" type protestors actually railed against the ever encroaching government depriving Americans of freedom, privacy and mugging the people with ever increasing fines/fees, they might have found a little more support among the masses." Didn't they actually hold several different marches and rallies downtown in order to highlight those issues? Also, I think that they did get plenty of support from the masses. Right now the #1 book at the top of Amazon's best sellers list a book about the inequalities that are brought by capitalism? (45 days in the top 100-
"Capital in the Twenty-First Century" by Thomas Piketty) I am just trying to follow your point here as a loyal follower of your blog. And agreed, destroy all of Rahm's b.s. cameras.

...aren't those actually the things that the Occupy Movement did try and call out the government for?...

No. Occupy protested "economic inequality." Remember, it was "Occupy Wall Street" at first and they wanted the bankers and Wall Street types to live a "more moral" lifestyle.

Basically, they were communist in their outlook and not libertarian as we tend to be.

Piketty's book is a compilation of failed communist policies espoused by Marx and embraced by Obama-bots if you actually read it.
