- A 14-year-old girl has been charged as a juvenile in the shooting death of a Tilden High School freshman who was killed Monday afternoon on her way home from school.
- McCarthy said the gun used in the shooting was a .38-caliber revolver reported stolen by its legal owner two weeks before the shooting. The gun had been stored in the owner’s car, something McCarthy said police officers are not allowed to do with their guns, but that the state’s concealed carry law allows civilians to do if they have a concealed carry permit.
So the legislature finally recognizes the right to carry a concealed gun, but then puts so many restrictions on it that people have no choice but to leave it in their car lest they run afoul of the overly onerous restrictions, then it's their fault when property crime (which is out of control in Chicago despite what McNumberCruncher claims) occurs and they lose their legal gun to the criminal underworld.
That's a brilliant fucking argument. Blame the victim of a crime who was doing the "correct" thing by the law (despite it being not nearly as secure as a safe or ::god forbid!:: actually carrying the fucking gun on your person where it's in your sight and control) for someone else being a victim. They had the stolen gun, loaned it to the shooter, unjammed it for her when it malfunctioned and tried to dispose of it afterwards. That's the fault of the previous gun owner? That's the fault of legal gun owners across Illinois? This is a criminal conspiracy involving at least three people, probably a lot more when you count everyone who knew that a gun was going to appear on scene to settle this fight over a boy, but it's the fault of the gun? No one else bears any responsibility?

The question to be asked is why the gun had to be locked in the car instead of being carried on the person; which would have prevented the gun from being stolen in the first place and subsequently used. Another feel good law enacted to impact legit citizens by preventing them from carrying and thus forcing legit citizens to lock firearms in cars, waiting to be broken into.

You have perfectly stated progressive democratic philosophy and worldview in regards to guns and gun ownership. Sorry, but that philosophy is not restricted to Chicago. It pretty much applies wherever you find progressive democrats and/or they are in power. For some reason conservatives who are OK with the 2d Amendment and gun ownership have a totally different viewpoint and worldview in regard to guns. Be careful about metal detectors revealing your presence at places that carrying will violate the law, thus allowing the state to arrest you and confiscate your gun. Here's an amendment to the Illinois and Chicago's B.S. Gun law that should be pushed through and added. Force all businesses that are opened to the public make available a secured storage location for anyone's weapon if they are not allowed to be on their person when in their establishment. I thought the same thing when I heard McJoke say that. Since getting my CCW, my gun has been with me 100% of the time outside of the house...EXCEPT, when I'm forbidden by law from having it, in which case I regretfully leave it locked in the car. Whose fault is that? Am I supposed to leave it at home because I'm making a 30 second trip to the post office? And it always feels so strange when I have to LEAVE IT to go check my P.O. box, and yet I can HAVE IT when I go cash a check at the bank.
This aside, I find it shocking that my gun has not spontaneously caused a crime, and I have had no urge to pull it out and use it when someone cuts me off in traffic. Shocking. Have you officers noticed the same phenomenon?
Thank you for this post, as a new Illinois concealed carry licensee I was screaming at the TV when Garry came on uttering these stupid comments. I dread the day I have to leave the gun in the car unattended because of all the stupid legislated "gun free zones" and signs which have the force of law. So far I haven't had to do so but it's only a mater of time... the laws against carrying on public transport and in parks and forest preserves need to go away and "no guns" signs should not have the force of law. If Rahm or Ald. Burke are too afraid to venture into these places without the protection firearms offer why should I have to go without protection?

Was at the main UPS facility at 1500 S. Jefferson last night. Only once you pass the 2 entrance doors and arrive inside the customer service facility do you get nailed with an 8.5" x 11" sign banning CCW.
At the Whole Foods on Kingsbury (yes, I do shop there) there are no signs on the doors in the covered parking lot upstairs. I completed all of my shopping only to arrive by the cash registers--by those doors the signs appear. At the door near the surface lot the sign is inconspicuous on the side glass.

Probably due to the outrageous stipulations that go along with concealed carry here, there are so many places you cannot carry and are encouraged to leave it locked in your glove box or trunk because if you are caught carrying in one of these no weapon zones you can lose your permit and have your weapon taken by police. Blame the dumb lawmakers on this on not the person following the law.
