- Great list. They promoted a current Sgt to Sgt, someone who didn't take the first part of the test and a deceased person.

Honest to pete, is being incompetent at your job a requirement to work at Personnel? So the list shrinks from 85 to 82 with no replacement? Or are they calling people before the weekend again?

Sergeant promoted to Sergeant is totally unacceptable. Someone who didn't take the first part understandable because of politics. Someone dying, who knows unless it was several years ago.

How does the name of someone who didn't even take the test or someone who is already a sergeant get mixed with a promotional numbered list of names? If you just go down the list promoting in order beginning at number one, and cross off each name as they are promoted, there shouldn't be a problem. You don't even need a computer. Pen and paper works fine.
Once again, here is another example proving this department finagles with promotional exams. These type of moronic errors are done by incompetents who can't even cheat right.
I hate this fkg department.

Im disappointed with the commander of 010 district for not treating her police officers with tje respect they deserve. As a matter of fact the superintendent shunned me while I was walking thru headquarter too. Our leadership is broken and its scary cause I dont respect them

Ladner screwed up the educational records of numerous officers. In previous promotional lists. they had to make corrections because of missing records. I think Ladner's mistake will haunt us for years.
Sgt to Sgt is like Jethro being a double not spy.
Not that the opportunity shouldn't be taken away from them but there is more than a few people from the last detective list that made sgt. I mean they can't figure this shit out before hand so spots don't get wasted? Maybe a phone call here and there before hand?
am guessing its a function of not one "weak link" but many---a lack of oversight and accountability with zero repercussions for such egregious incompetence---everyone who vetted the list should be dumped-from Gene Williams down.

Nothing new. We had a PO promoted to Detective by merit a couple of years ago. Problem was he never took the test. Was in class a couple of days before it was discovered.
The problem is LH who was responsible for triple checking the list retired and Ladner did not want her to train anyone or hand down her years of knowledge. Now you are left with people trying to make things up as they go.
Creative manipulation of the facts and figures, we didnt pioneer that system that GMagic employs, though City Hall and Personnel aren't the only units that reviews the list and candidates. Just how many eyes and hands were on "The List" before it was released and the who's-who that might get the nod of approval - please advise.
Stringent review process and vetting like any city deal.

So in the past 1 1/2 years approx. 210+ Sgts have been made, yet Lt's can't be DSS or Watch Commanders or whatever the F you want to call it because they are short Sgts.
They make 39 Det's and two of them make Sgt. So the class of 39 becomes a class of +4 with this new list of Sgts (2 from class +33 from Det Div). Add to this list the 11 Sgts that were from the Mar/2014 class and that class of 39 new Dets becomes a negative 7.
Gary needs to promote a class of 200+ just to make up the difference in losses in the D unit thru retirement and promotions the past 2 years

The "process" of which you speak might be legit, but you're an idiot if you believe that's how people are ultimately selected for SWAT. You're a handjob. How's that for the info you seek. By the way, SWAT has been reduced to babysitting the savages in the ghettos for Safe Passage, that's how "elite" of a unit it's become.
There will be one more big class and the new list will be out. Full strength for Sergeant is 1,300. With the group going to the Academy we will only be around 1180's. Also there are less Capt's And Lt's. More work on Sgt's. More sgt's are needed to make it all work.

So...what are you saying here, office? That the City should balance it's budget on the backs of the poor, as has been the case for many years? Because one trip to traffic court would tend to make a visitor believe that blacks & browns (with a sprinkling of Asians) are the worst drivers in the city. Arrogance and privilege aren't traits that only afflict the wealthy. It would seem many middle class public service hacks share those attitudes on a wide basis.

Schweiger and his wife are both retired; the wife retired for some long standing medical issues, so you don't have to worry about seeing her wearing a white shirt.

Too many comments about schweigers. I just want to chime in here. All were great guys. Old retired guy from 13 a bit shake buy okay, harmless basically but gone. Dave & old man terrific. Bosses, left you alone &I think the ex wife is back as a pay off for the shir they pulled on her. I think she won a lawsuit or something for being dumped from a unit. I believe she's retired too. Anyways. Schweigers not as bad as some of the bosses now....west, georges, jackson, the white rat, black widow to name a few.
Speaking of the problems in 025 , back in the day when there were problem coppers who were ruining it for everyone else they were put in their place not by sgt.s but by fellow officers. Sometimes at roll call, sometimes in the parking lot. It usually worked but when it didn't the problem coppers would bid out and usually it was to 025 . So when a couple guys screw it up for everyone it's time for the rest of the guys to put the troubled kids in their place. If you can't police your own don't complain when the sgt.s and lt.s do what you should be doing.

I would be fine with having more whites in traffic court. The one problem is that they took all our police away to babysit the ghetto.
Police in the good neighborhoods are just doing triage. They don't have time for traffic and every driver up here knows it.
You can't have it both ways. You need all the police, you get all the police. Don't beef that there are more minorities in traffic court or County. Beef about why it's that way.

So...what are you saying here, office? That the City should balance it's budget on the backs of the poor, as has been the case for many years? Because one trip to traffic court would tend to make a visitor believe that blacks & browns (with a sprinkling of Asians) are the worst drivers in the city. Arrogance and privilege aren't traits that only afflict the wealthy. It would seem many middle class public service hacks share those attitudes on a wide basis.

FYI-they ARE the worst drivers. Ever drive down 22nd street? Or Wentworth in Chinatown? Or Cottage?
There will be one more big class and the new list will be out. Full strength for Sergeant is 1,300. With the group going to the Academy we will only be around 1180's. Also there are less Capt's And Lt's. More work on Sgt's. More sgt's are needed to make it all work.

Congrats to a certain new Sgt from 25. Worked this person a few years ago in a unit. When our Sgt told her she "had to go shoot". She asked "shoot what?" Only the best and brightest!

When I first came on if you scored under 500 you were good, then it slipped to 400. I'm glad to see they re digging down.

Just took the SWAT test. I have to admit, it is a legitimate process. The only unit you have to earn your way in. I hope I continue to make it. Any advice on the actually SWAT school. Rumor has it, the SWAT boys brought in a SEAL who will be running it. Everyone at SWAT is being real tight lipped about it. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Since the SWAT boys are required to bring in activity now, I heard they got the 300lb meter maid that writes 2 books of parkers a day in the loop to run it.
