I thought the test was 2006, which would make it 8 years. Maybe I'm wrong, either way -it's done. New results out soon. At least some of these promotees bring experience to the table.

Look at retired cmdr Alvarado. Another merit HDO afraid of his own shadow who was give easy units and still had no control ie locking front doors to old 023 station cause he was afraid a crowd would "storm" the station.
You should have seen Alvarado when the nut in 023 attacked the desk crew with a butcher knife and was shot dead at the desk by a guy from mass transit. That day Alvarado locked HIMSELF in the commander's office.

Speaking of Sergeants, I can't believe that nobody told you S.C.C. about the epic roll call in 011 the other day by Commander Evans. He blasted certain Jagoff sergeants on 3rd watch that love to fuck with and SPAR coppers. J.T. and A.Z. in particular. He even went so far as to shove a PAR form in J.T. face, mean mugged him and basically told him to bid the fuck out in front of everyone. Lmao! This prick J.T. wouldn't even come up on the air to handle an IOD for one of the guys on his log today. Another sergeant had to handle it. Copper was banged up pretty good too. Commander Evans knows that there are some hard working coppers in 011, and they are constantly being fucked with, yelled at and treated like shit by these dickhead supervisors on 3rd watch, and he's not having it anymore. Rumor is that someone overnighted through the mail a PAR form to A.Z. house. A.Z. was so shaken up by this, he was even texting his mortal enemy J.T. on his day off looking for comfort and support. Now you know the world is coming to an end. 1st Evans gets rid of Lt. J.A., are the legendary jagoff duo of J.T. and A.Z. next? If so, moral in 011 is going to bust through the roof!!! Commander Evans for Superintendent!!!

Look no further down the list than the goof from from 003. His escapades are damn near unrivaled on the job, but he gets the nod for being Brookins' guy. The arbitrator's decision on the second sergeants DSS grievance is coming down soon.
THURSDAY the Chief of Patrol came out with an order which states that lieutenants will NO LONGER ACT AS THE DSS if there is a shortage of sergeants. This all stems from the arbitration.
The city is now forced to have enough sergeants so there will be enough to cover the street (at least 2) and 1 sergeant to be the DSS. This is why a new class was made today.
Hmmmmm.....still looks like someone else isn't going very far either on this job.

They have taken a lot of people off a very old test since the new test was administered. Are the rumors true they are burying the new Sgt test results because a certain race did well? The reason this department sucks is a total lack of communication. Any professional organization would say when the new results would be released. But not CPD. Same old shit, different decade.

All of you that studied your ass off, paid money for a study class, scored in the top % BUT since you are CAUCASION and overachieved...you are now going to be punished. They will "hold on" to this new list and maybe, along with the minority merit hacks...make 100 before scrapping it. So in past tests where the top 350 would of made it now its the top 100. This is pitiful. My son who studied his ass off unless he's in the top 100 will be washed out. I'm a retired Sgt and looked into what you guys can do lawsuit wise but the This crooked city is playing dirty but fair. As long as they don't "announce" the NEW Sgt test list they can hire from the old list all they want. And they will. Just for the minorities. And there is nothing we can do. I called one of my brass buddies and he said sorry, the new list was "too white"...asshole didnt know my son took it. Now could you imagine if the test results were referred to as being "too black"???
If you were lucky to be on the old list congrats. If this was your last chance and your on this new list then I feel bad for you. Usually hard work is rewarded, not this time.

I was 486 on the 1998 sergeants exam.
They got to approximately 550 on the list.
With the merit hacks they made OVER 700 off the 1998 exam.
The August 1998 class had 250.

I am now buying the fact that the results have been in and the city is holding the results because too many whites scored well, because I know at least 15 on that list and if you combine their activity it is less than 10 arrests over the last 4 years and there is some lazy, bitter names (hate being a police officer). I am surprised that someone from the police department didn't say that since the city has the results, send them.
Hopefully the promotion changes them, but they will have a hard time leading/supervising after they were shitty police officers.

@1231 am 011 still has A LOT of work to do. There are still sergeants on 1st watch who like to fuck with people too. And for some reason these new Lt's keep coming in and don't notice that the problems are at the top. MORAL starts at the top, and trickles down. You might be wearing a white shirt, but your supposed to bleed blue. Don't forget when you are calling for help it's going to be one of us coming to help you.

Got to remember they cut 200 Sgts. These people should have made it over 2 years ago.

OT - Thanks to Dist 5 troopers for the assist on a case. We did some good work yesterday.
In the 1970's they went past 1,000 for minorities. The test was given in 1978 and they were pulling people from it into 1986 or '87. They can do whatever they want and they can dip as deep as they want.
Calm down everybody. They wanted to get this class in before the summer. This is the last class off the old list. Sorry. No promotions over the summer. When class of sergeants are made off the new list it will be in the winter or early next year.
All the federal boys have made lt or sgt except for one guy that must be one helluva brick i remember a day when greeks had some clout on this job i guess those days are gone

8 yrs is a long time, especially for those who just were able to take their first promotional exam. But 400 people out of about 4000 that took the test is not scraping the bottom of the barrel. These people are in the top 10%! It's not their fault that the city had a promotional and hiring slowdown.
Good we need more Sgt's, especially one to replace the 3 month wonder that went back to 018 to be business liason Sgt. lmao
People whining about the old test vs new test stfu. You think you deserve a promotion? Thousands of coppers studied and took study groups and paid for classes for the last test because we were promised advancement then they scored the test and stalled promotions. Everyone who scored well on the last test deserves to be promoted before moving in to the new test. Yea the merit sucks but cops who scored in the top percentage should be promoted.

Hey dumbshit if you think rank order number 400 is too far down the list consider that the first class off the new list will include 30% meritorious promotee's who spell shit with two "t's". For your information 4500 patrolman typically take the sergeants test, therefore a person who is 400 is in the top 8%. Put that in your 001st District Starbucks caramel machiotto and smoke it! No wonder you still haven't been promoted, goof. And let's not forget two famous #1 on the list promotee's Jan Robards Dillon an Ritchie Brezcezk! Both a credit to the Department!
I have been retired for 12 years now and I realize how long that has been when I see a promotional list and recognize NO ONE. I was a detective and I was happy in that job, But, like everyone else I wanted to be promoted because detectives received very little respect in the department. So, I made sergeant and in short order I was unhappy and I missed the D unit. I realized that sergeants are not respected in the department either. I sure hope things have changed over these years, especially with two superintendents from outside the inbred CPD. Daley ruined the CPD with his picks for superintendent, with Hillard and Cline being the two worst.

That's the point. Make us miserable and fuck us over. They know they have us by the balls with residency. Trying to force early retirements or early outs. I'm planning on lateral transferring by the end of next year. Fuck; il, CPD,politics, savages, etc... I want to stay but fuck it, I know when it's time to go. Congratulations to all the newly appointed Sgts. A bit of a knock on the list of the last test administered: rumors are exactly that, rumors. But it's hard to believe it takes this long to grade and rank a test. If the numbers don't satisfy the "equality" rubric then so be it. Would you accept a professional sports team that didn't draft the best of the best? Hell no! They only take those qualified to advance the team, improve their program and produce winners. Why should the city do anything less? Why aren't the citizens screaming for the best people for the job? I'm all for recognizing outstanding Officers but my team would be stacked with smart, talented, brave, hard working coppers. I don't care what color they are. I don't care if they have a pedigree a mile long. If they are suited for the job, then they should do/have that job. Reward excellence and shun failure.

So, you're assuming that you'll be in the top 1% - "cream of the crop." What if you're not? What if you landed around 300 on the list, which is still a great score on the test. When they come to you 6 years from now, are you going to tell them "No, don't take me. Take the list down and go get the "'cream of the crop'" from the new test."

These guys have waited probably longer for this promotion, then you've been on the job. Sicking sense of entitlement by these new super gel heads. As far as meritorious goes coppers were promoted that way in the old days if they were shot on the job, saved someone by shooting someone or did something truly heroic.It was a reward for sacrifice and going up and beyond. Now working in the office is considered heroic.

Hey dumbshit if you think rank order number 400 is too far down the list consider that the first class off the new list will include 30% meritorious promotee's who spell shit with two "t's". For your information 4500 patrolman typically take the sergeants test, therefore a person who is 400 is in the top 8%. Put that in your 001st District Starbucks caramel machiotto and smoke it! No wonder you still haven't been promoted, goof. And let's not forget two famous #1 on the list promotee's Jan Robards Dillon an Ritchie Brezcezk! Both a credit to the Department!

DSS Grievance Award
Sergeants,
Arbitrator Roumell issued his award in our second DSS grievance. He ruled in favor of the Department on this one. Combined with his earlier ruling on the DSS issue and the case that was presented at hearing, we believed that we had a winner. Unfortunately, Roumell relied heavily on the arbitration award of Arbitrator Ed Benn in the Lieutenant's grievance over the Watch Commander issue. He reasoned that the re-organization of the department, with the new position of Watch Operations Lieutenant was enough for the Department to proceed with the new special orders. Our attorney, Tom Pleines wrote,
"The Arbitrator relies on Benn's award for the proposition that in order to determine whether you are entitled to Out of Grade pay, the focus is not on what duties you are performing. The focus is on what the higher ranked officer is doing.
The duties of the DSS were changed with the last reorganization however and even though the Dept shifted the authority to supervise from the DSS to the WOL that change is sufficient to distinguish the WOL's duties from the DSS."
We're extremely disappointed in the decision, but we have to move forward in our jobs under the new directives. The entire award is attached.
Eighty-five new sergeants begin training at the academy on Monday. This promotion will bring our numbers to just under 1190, our budgeted allotment. The promotions are a positive move after we requested additional manpower from Superintendent McCarthy. We look forward to the newest members of the Association to hit the street just in time for summer.

As far as I remember, the Dept is allowed to use 30% for merit. Why is anyone pretending that merit actually means merit. We know what it really means. Everyone acts all shocked when someone gets promoted who doesn't deserve it. That is why they have 30%. If it was 100%, almost everyone who got promoted would be horrible. And we all see every once in a while a good copper getting promoted meritoriously, but don't get fooled. Even some good coppers have phone calls or family members in high places. Until our awesome union does something about how merit picks are made, just accept the fact that 30% of every Sgt class is going to be clout babies.
There might be an open spot if the detective from area north who's been announcing for several months that he'd turn it down if they got to him actually DOES turn it down.

We did our time and seen nothing changes. I am retired and you will also be soon. It took time not being the police, but after we do 30 plus years, enough. Our bosies are shot from the job. We ate like shit, worked shit hours, and the stress factor took out many a copper during and after retirement.

I still see a few "double merit " promotees on the list. It's hard to feel happy for them.
I've never seen the city promote more than 300 po's from the 1998 or 2002 list but on this 2006 list they are at almost 400. There still rumors of one more class being made from this list. This means that's it will be at least 1 year before first class from new list. This is total BS and unfair.

2002 test they promoted 382
Prior to 1998 if you scored in the top 500 you were assured to be made.

I think its great your trying to advance in your career but you should of knew what you were getting into when you took this job take the bad with the good. theres always the private sector ask your collie graduate friends how that is working out for them.

if department used all 30% of merit spots that means out of 85, 20 are merit. Merit is determined after class size off list is determined. 65 off list, 30% of 65 is approx. 20.

that was a funny story: most wanted man in Chicago gets a ride from Chicago cops hours after they leave roll call with a photo of the wanted man. They had in the back of the car!! That officer would have been a hero and gotten a meritorious promotion if she had kept the car doors locked and just drove back to 003 with Rencher inside. Instead, they give him a police report and drive him to the train! Ahhhh the warm nice fuzzy police!!
