This Place Must Suck

  • Half of Illinois residents would move to another state if they could — the highest percentage for any state, according to a poll released by Gallup this week. Nearly half of those polled in Connecticut and Maryland  said they would move.

Some 19 percent of Illinoisans surveyed said they plan to move in the next 12 months, a rate that trailed only Nevada.
Of course, half of Illinois isn't moving out tomorrow. But the affluent and middle class will as factories close and service industry jobs relocate to business friendly states. And states more respective of individual rights, lower taxes, and of course, lower criminal activities - both by the citizens and the politicians.

And the state is considering a progressive income tax. If that becomes a reality productive people will really have no choice but to leave this state.

"Of course, half of Illinois isn't moving out tomorrow." -- SCC

Yeah, not all at once, not all on the same plane.

"Some 19 percent of Illinoisans surveyed said they plan to move in the next 12 months."

Round that up 1 and put it this way -- one out of five people are going to leave Illinois during the next year.

The state is going to lose 20% of its population right quick -- just for starters.

Could a good outbreak of bubonic plague match that? Not even a "dirty bomb."

...and how many next year?

"The affluent and middle class will [move away]..."

...leaving those remaining with an ever-increasing taxes/"fees" burden to take up the slack.

That's an awfully big story, isn't it? Yet the news anchors are sort of laughing, smiling as they back-and-forth on their studio couches making light of it.

Circling the drain -- circling, circling...

From Michael Lucci mlucci@illinoispolicy.org

Half of Illinoisans would leave the state if they could, according to a recent Gallup poll. That percentage is the highest of any state in the nation.

This comes a week after a Gallup poll that showed one in four Illinoisans consider Illinois to be the worst possible place to live.

The Gallup poll asked:

“Regardless of whether you will move, if you had the opportunity, would you like to move to another state, or would you rather remain in your current state?”

Illinois is the only state in which half the respondents want to leave. Illinois is accompanied in the top 10 by a collection of other high-tax states. Six of the states people most want to leave ranked among the seven worst for the Tax Foundation’s 2014 Tax Freedom Day.

Respondents were also asked to cite the main reason they want to move out. One in four Illinoisans cited the work and business environment as the leading factor. Another 8% cited taxes. This is no surprise in the state with the third-worst jobless rate (http://www.illinoispolicy.org/illinois-loses-3200-payroll-jobs-another-business-exits-the-state/) and a reputation for cronyism.

These polls were conducted between July and December of 2013, and so were not influenced by the chilling “polar vortex” Illinois experienced this past winter.

And Illinoisans don’t just talk the talk; they also walk the walk. According to Internal Revenue Service statistics, Illinois lost 50,000 residents to net out-migration in 2010 (http://www.illinoispolicy.org/irs-data-show-more-taxpayers-fleeing-illinois/). More recently, Census estimates show that Illinois is losing as many as 70,000 people per year to net out-migration.

The Illinois General Assembly needs to act quickly before the state loses more people. The first action lawmakers can take would be to fulfill their promise to sunset the 2011 tax hikes. Such a move would immediately improve the state’s business environment and improve Illinois’ worst-in-the-nation level of trust in government.

The very rich and the very poor don't have to move, they can ride out the storm as we in the middle get raped to pay for everything.

Have you democrats noticed that the states you run are among the ones most likely to lose population? No, I thought not. These democrat fucks are like locusts, after they destroy a state and it becomes intolerable for them to live there, they move on and start corrupting a new one.

Illinois has become a welfare state. There are so many freebies to rif raff and illegal immigrants that taxpayers like me are sick of it.

Illinois could be a rich state with all our agriculture. But instead our wealth is given away in the form of welfare to people who refuse to work/ and or are illegaly here and shouldn't get any free stuff!

I can handle a little crime here and there - that's life in a big city. What I cannot tolerate is the continuous thievery and criminal activity by the Chicago and Cook County politicians. I am sick and tired of my tax dollars being used to line the pockets of everyone who sold their soul to the Democrats. We're leaving too. Can't afford to stay.

Frustration. We have a fiscal crisis. Does money from TIF funds, income tax hikes, sales tax hikes, service tax hikes, go to fix the crisis - NO. It goes to new social programs, stadiums, bike paths, new parks but it is not used to fix the main problem. It is like borrowing money to buy new furniture for your house rather than fixing the leaking roof which destroyed the old furniture. Just makes no sense. Consequently many just want to move to a new house (state).

I'll first say that I'm a younger guy (35) and not a cop. Hope you guys don't hold that against me. Ha! But seriously, though, I'm obviously nowhere near retirement, but I got too fed up with the complete clusterfuck that is Illinois and Chicago. I got a job here in Montana and moved out here in August. I love it out here! Moving out here makes me realize how much Illinois sucks. The scenery here is gorgeous. It's cheap to live here (in most parts). Taxes are low, and our second amendment rights are honored. Also, the people tend to be very nice and friendly. If any of you Chicago guys are looking to get out of that craphole, I think (not guaranteeing) that the Montana State Highway Patrol is hiring. You'll probably have to take a paycut, but it is SO much cheaper to live out here, so it evens out.

Here are the reasons why Chicago and Illinois has tanked. DALEY/ DALEY / DALEY / DALEY / DALEY / DALEY / MADIGAN / MADIGAN / MADIGAN / MADIGAN / EMANUEL / EMANUEL. This Department has had nothing but problems from day one shame on me for staying and thinking things would get better. We can't even get a living wage raise in this place but that does not stop the powers at be raising property taxes and the shitheads moving around the corner lowering my property value. When I retire I probably won't have a pension worth anything and my house will probably be worth nothing. So I will probably need to get extra employment somewhere else just to live at the poverty level. Keep your heads up boys and girls its only going to get worst. If you don't have a lot of time on start applying in other States don't get stuck here like the rest of us.....Peace......West Side copper

I've had my eye on Montana since the late 1990s and would have been there long ago if not for the wife's family here especially her Mom. We finally go out of Brighton Park last October and is now a 1 1/2 minute car ride, or 7 minute walk, away from us.

Though Montana has problems too now, a Meth epidemic. And liberals have bought millions of prime acres of Ranch land driving up prices. Ted Tuner is the biggest land owner in MT and has it all sealed off, it's 'No Trespassing & Prosecution' for peons. Other Rich Libs did the same, Sam Donaldson (ABC sNews) has a fair sized Ranch there too.

I own my (small) house outright.

I refuse to add "improvements" to it because I figure that eventually my county (not Cook) will tax its value into the dirt.

When we add all taxes (sales, property, income, fuel, etc.) I'll bet Illinoisans pay 3x the taxes of residents of FL or AZ, yet it's not Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome in those states.

I figure 2/3rd of all the money taxing bodies collect in Illinois disappears into the pockets of political cronies, politicians' family members, etc.

Only in Illinois is the "state admin building" named after a LIVING ex-governor, who has a law firm that does business in that architectural monstrosity.

That's graft for you, worse than just about anywhere.

And we wonder why I and many others would leave if given half a chance?

Get a grip man and quit whining. If you only have 8 years left you are earning 85,000 to 90,000. Thats a decent wage and probably 75 to 85% of the public would be happy with that. Home values are holding in Chicago and your pension hasnt change and dont worry, you wont be below poverty level. Man, you are one downer. What else can go wrong for you.

I gots 4 yrs and 10 months till I maxim out and then I b outta here.... Don't forget the Berlin Wall penalty that's here, 3.5% of your home sale goes to shitcago if you don't buy again in the city on top of a 5-7% commission if you use a realtor. Down size your home before you leave so they (Rahm,Madigan, democrats) don't get as much from your home sale to give to illegals so they can buy more votes cause that's all this is about. Go south and west to red states, it's the future for working people. Remember on this job the motto now is " to survive and escape" .... Good luck and be safe.

With the High Speed railway to St.Louis and all prison camps in between, only the voting Democrats will keep the Census Bureau employed and Illinois in the red.
What this state needs is a presidential library to keep it attractive to newcomers and where current residents can reflect on all the hopes and changes that were brought forth and maybe it wouldnt hurt to create some sort of benefits program to help those in need.

Read a study recently in a magazine that listed top ten states for welfare. In Illinois, a single mother with 2 children, who takes advantage of all the generous forms of entitlements, has a standard of living equivalent to someone earning $52,000 a year.

I work 2080+ hours a year and make roughly $72,000 a year and have an after tax income of $51,000 give or take, after paying all the BS fees and corruption taxes to support the welfare leeches in Illinois.

The illiterate, crack addled, welfare slug, has a standard of living equal to mine. Unreal!..I'm sick of shopping at Aldi and watching the LINK recipient go to the lot, and leave in a newer, nicer car than mine. Fuck them..and fuck Illinois! Can't wait to retire and leave.
