We're thinking of doing a series on "Arthritis in the Young" and we need visual examples of this debilitating disease.
We were going to do a series on the ignorance of the media to actually do some research, and put two-and-two together and report on the actual reasons behind certain crimes, but we figured that was kind of obvious by now.

I know Garry hates having to talk about his abysmal performance as leader of this department. This evidenced when murders like that of this kid occur, that he resorts to attacking the gun laws, rather than the social factors that contributed to this incident and the huge, glaring shortage of police officers in this city.
All the media talk about how police overtime will go up, is almost the same thing as saying that we do not have enough police on the street, without saying so much.

"A South Side man is accused of handing a [stolen] .38-caliber handgun to his 14-year-old niece, who then confronted an old friend, also 14, and fatally shot her over an [alleged] argument about a boyfriend...
"Donnell Flora is charged with first-degree murder and aggravated battery with a firearm. His niece was charged [AS A JUVENILE!] Tuesday with [first degree] murder and a 17-year-old boy was charged with trying to hide the gun after the fatal shooting of Endia Martin...
"Endia and her friend had been fighting over a boy, but the two had decided to meet after school and work things out, according to a relative.
"As Endia was leaving her cousin's home around 4:30 p.m. Monday, her friend ran up with a group of people. There were shots, the teens scattered and Endia was lying on the sidewalk, a fatal wound to her back, according to the cousin, Lauren Joseph, 29.
"They was all into it," Joseph said. "They said it was about some boy, but we don't know the whole story."
"The girl's uncle had brought the gun to his niece knowing "there was going to be a fight," according to Police Supt. Garry McCarthy.
"The girl tucked the gun into her waistband, walked across the street, then pulled it out and pointed it at Endia on a porch in the 900 block of West Garfield Boulevard...She pulled the trigger but the gun malfunctioned...

Haven't been on the trib's site in months, maybe almost a year. The last time I checked, if you wanted to comment on a story you could do it from your Facebook account. They either changed it or you wanted to comment something that you aren't comfortable saying in public.
Those pictures prove nothing, really. Lots of dumb kids out there, brown white or black, rich and poor, put up pictures of themselves on facebook throwing up stupid gang signs everyday. Doesn't mean they're all likely to go shoot somebody on the corner over a boy.

I recall a youth officer in A/5 when I came on and was working in 014, Bucktown was still shit then. This youth officer would get his young malefactors in the youth office and they would head immediately to a bench or seat and sprawl out, for about two seconds. Our Youth Officer would bellow them to stand up, no one gave them permission to sit. They would be ordered to empty their pockets and take off their shoes and stack everything on the floor in front of them, folded neatly and then they had to stand politely in back of their belongings and they did not get to sit while they were being processed. Momma or in very rare instances, daddy, would come in and see little darling standing at attention not speaking unless spoken to.
This guy was good, I don't remember his name, Polish last name, he controlled his youth office and treated all the kids the same, very firmly but fair. They got to learn that, at least they got a fair shake. I went with him a few times looking for kids on warrants, momma would say no, little Leroy wasn't home and then I would see Y.O. barge in and catch junior going for the rear door or window. Good man, good cop. Those were the days of lots of good police and it was enjoyable to be the police. All gone now, sad to say.

No one deserves to die but when you make lifestyle choices of associating with/or being in gang, the chances of one being murder climbs dramatically.
As many have said, the Ghetto has been sponsored by the government, enjoyed by the dregs of society and exploited by record companies.
How many people on this blog would be up in arms, coming up with a plan of action if your neighborhood was turned into a war zone with a daily body count? I'm guessing most everybody.
In the south side and west side ghetto, when children and adults get killed, most neighborhood residents give a shrug of their shoulders or plan another "peace march" with 20 people wandering the streets with no outcome other than a photo op.
You can't keep asking society to care more about your neighborhood then the residents care about it. These problems can easily be traced back to lack of family structure and failure of the community taking ownership of their problems.

How exactly is it the "communities problem" because some parents are raising monsters. Sixth person charged in murder of 14-year-old girl

"A sixth person has been charged in connection with the shooting death of a 14-year-old girl in the Back of the Yards earlier this week.
"Floyd Evans, 43, is accused of acting as a middle-man in the murder weapon's path from a Hyde Park man's home to the hands of the accused murderer, also a 14-year-old girl.
"He's charged with possessing a firearm without a valid identification card and failing to report to his probation officer.
"Police initially said the weapon used to kill Endia Martin and wound a 16-year-old boy was stolen but police have outlined how they now believe the weapon ended up in the hands of a 14-year-old classmate of Martin who faces murder charges as a juvenile.
"The initial owner of the gun, Robert James, transferred it to Evans and then filed a police report saying it was stolen from a car, according to police.
"Police believe the murder suspect's uncle, Donnell Flora, later obtained the gun and passed it off to his 14-year-old niece.
"Evans, of the 200 block of East Ohio Street, is due in court Friday."
