Another" Exchange" of Gunfire

  • Three separate shootings left three men wounded, and police exchanged gunfire with a man in another incident overnight.

Preliminary reports said the man police shot at is in custody and is not  injured. Police said a weapon was recovered from the scene.

That police-involved shooting happened about 2:50 a.m. in the 6400 block of South Campbell Avenue. It's not clear what prompted police to open fire.
Um...perchance he was armed with a gun and pointing it at police? Maybe?

In any event, cops go home safe, bad guy sleeps in jail.

A sergeant was injured in a separate car accident down south side way:
  • A Chicago Police Department sergeant was taken to an area hospital after a collision at Garfield Boulevard and Indiana Avenue in the city's Washington Park neighborhood.

The crash happened just before 11 p.m. Preliminary reports indicated the sergeant was in an unmarked car that somehow came into contact with a grey sedan.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Attack police? On parole? Cut off your monitoring bracelet, grab a hammer, and run around naked on the Drive. It's the New Way.

No bail for man charged in hammer attack on 2 women

7:27 p.m. CDT, July 10, 2014

"A hammer-wielding attacker with a long history of mental illness struck two 55-year-old women walking near Navy Pier, causing a head wound to one woman that took about 30 stitches to close, Cook County prosecutors and his family said Thursday.

"Jawaun Westbrook, 28, was released on parole last month for a conviction on two counts of aggravated battery to a police officer...Westbrook’s family said he had been sent back to prison for violating his parole by cutting his electronic bracelet and that he was released June 19 after about 3 months in custody.

"On Thursday, Westbrook, who has the word “Kill” tattooed on his left hand, was ordered held on no bail by Judge Peggy Chiampas on two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon for the Tuesday night attack.

"Westbrook struck two women in the head with a hammer as they walked in the 400 block of North Lower Lake Shore Drive at 6:30 p.m., Scaduto said .

"One woman sustained a wound to the top of her head that required 25 to 30 stitches to close, while the other woman suffered bruising, Scaduto said.

The two women told police they were struck from behind, according to a police report. They were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for treatment.

"After the attack Westbrook ran southbound on Lake Shore Drive, Scaduto said. Bikers witnessed the attack near the popular tourist spot. Police, including bike patrol officers, arrested Westbrook and identified as the attacker, she said.

"He most recently was released from a hospital last month after being found walking naked down Lake Shore Drive..."

New rules in 011 from 1100x. Tact teams do not respond to selling jobs and the beat cars don't respond to 911 calls so they can be on missions. I am wondering if anyone out there knows how that would cause a problem with liability? If we aren't responding to calls of help from citizens because we are on missions, we can't get in trouble right?

It's the fraud that galls me. If your a merit pick admit it, then answer questions asked by coworkers as to what meritorious acts you performed.

Mostly everyone hates merit. The question is, what are you willing to give up in order to get rid of it?
Have the FOP bargin to end merit, but be ready to give something up...something big.

Didn't think so.

Meeting scheduled end of july with exempts about making lieutenant 100 percent merit. It's an exploratory topic in a much larger meeting about department issues. A group of exempts are taking the stance that lieutenants are now what captains used to be. That position is 100 percent merit. But there is also a group of exempts against this. And there is the lieutenant union to deal with. Sergeant exam results were received by city in april. They were supposed to be mailed second week of june. Not sure of the reasoning but city is going to send out results now 8 months after the test just like they did for 2006 test. Not sure of reasoning but results will be received second week of september. No more sergeant classes until 2015. And detective exam planned for spring 2015.

And nothing against our brother Sheriffs but are they allowed to make arrests or do they turn them over to us? Before someone chimes in and says they have more jurisdiction then us I know. I just know how the Politicians are. I also know I have made arrests in the past for the Sheriffs on evictions in the City limits.

Off the subject but more cr #'s pulled on other coppers in 17. This time off duty from 17 got into traffic crash and officer that did report put his personal address on report but gave him a break on not having insurance on his car. The off duty wasn't happy about his personal info on report so he had a sergeant pull a cr# for in attention to duty and he felt officer was harassing him cause he is Indian.

At one time not that long ago Captain was 100% tested rank. Top exempts hated it for they could not dump a captain. No matter where they sent him, he was still a captain. Many commanders were only Lieutenants and the some captains paid little attention to them.

Then the whores sold off the rights to the civil service rank of captain for a few pieces of silver. And that was that. Now Lieutenant? Well, I am retired now and it doesn't affect me but it is a bad idea to give the city more political control over the police department.

"Lincoln Park Jewelry Store Robbed, Employees Tied Up by Armed Thieves"

"Police said two men and a women entered the store about 1:10 p.m., brandishing weapons. They ordered two employees, a man and a woman, to the basement, where they were "constrained," said Officer Veejay Zala, a police spokesman.

The thieves then fled with "an undetermined amount of proceeds," Zala said. Fox Chicago News reported the thieves made off with more than $200,000 of jewelry and cash."

Yes... Yes you do want that.

You're no better than the rest.
If you witness a Chicago Policeman justifiably putting someone down HARD, you would scream in outraged sympathy with the offender about how the big, mean and unfriendly cop blasted a crater in the pavement
with the offender.

You might even be so oitraged that you would stop your Subaru station wagon and demand that the officer stop whatever Police action he is taking to provide you with his name and star number so you can report him because "there are rules against what you just did."

Of course you and yours NEVER see what precipitated the Officer's action... Even if it happens RIGHT BEFORE YOUR EYES.

You just gotta stop that Cop because damnit, he has rules to abide by!

Meanwhile, your democratic political masters have facilitated the burning of this city to a crisp by the armed wing of the Catered To Constituency.

Heh... You and yours would NEVER get in one of THEIR faces with your misplaced righteous outrage and indignation because Catered To Constituents DON'T have "rules" to abide by.

I am so tired of hearing people paid to be police officers whine about why they can't do the job. Just your excuse for being a dog, my man, and nothing else.

Are we constrained? Sure we are. Use the tools we ARE given and make a difference. You paint a broad stroke when you accuse everyone that isn't the police as part of the problem, so I won't make that same mistake. There are plenty of good police officers that make a difference. Look to them and emulate that effort or get off the job. We don't need you and your childish whining.
