Water Wasters Endorse.....

Seriously?
  • The Chicago firefighters union has endorsed Mayor Rahm Emanuel for a second term, the mayor's campaign said Friday.

It's a turnabout for Emanuel, whose first couple of years in office were marked by him leaving the door open to closing firehouses and lowering staffing levels while talking openly about cutting costs in the department. The rhetoric angered union leadership as the new mayor began the traditionally acrimonious process of negotiating a new contract for the Fire Department.

Then about nine months ago, Emanuel and the union agreed to a new pact giving firefighters and paramedics an 11 percent raise over five years.
This is telling:
  • Fire union leaders could not be reached for comment.
Divide and conquer.

And what's the difference ?? FOP endorsed a Daley and an incumbent alderman who's voted with Rahm around 99% of the time. Both if these individuals are college classmates. Hmmmmmmmm

35 year member of local 2 now retired and the executive board of local 2 has conjured up a shitstorm with the rank and file. Sound familiar? So before all you firefighter haters get started just realize that the guys in the firehouses are pissed too. The current board won a very narrow victory. I doubt they will win the next one. I don't imagine that the average street cop has a lot in common with any member of your FOP executive board and it's no different with us. I am embarrassed beyond belief at local 2. And your anger is mine. Sorry.

Of course all the FLOP brass who have been promised cushy after retirement jobs by Rahm don't like that. They would lose out as would all those Day Dollies who haven't seen a police station in years.

To the sergeant who posted that no one will be hired from the new list of sergeant's test you are 100% right. I did a iclear alpha inquiry and found that yes indeed the last batch of sergeants made are young enough to have about 12 to 23 years on the job. Plus the city is only short of 40 or so sergeant's and thus the city won't be in a hurry to hire anyone from the new list for a long time. I studied my butt off and did get a good score (between 150 and 200). So it looks like I won't be wearing that white shirt soon. Oh well, such is life. I will continue to keep my head up and think positive.

Another typical "I got mine, you're on you're own". Saw a few times with the city's motor truck drivers back in the day when the city forced unpaid furlo days and the MTD's were asked to take some time off to save co-workers with less seniority their jobs. All this unity stuff became nothing but bullshit when they refused and about 1400 pink slips went out to their "brothers" in the union. But don't the police enjoy the same "me too" clause in their contracts as the fire department. If not, then what they say is true that the fire department is the better of the two jobs.

This should not be confused with FIREFIGHTERS endorsing this shitheel.

The firefighters need to go after their OWN union for pulling this shit because you can surely bet the actual membership had nothing to do with it.

This is the problem with our two unions.... they endorse whomever THEY want to endorse regardless of what the membership wants. This should be a MEMBERSHIP decision not the political hack union scumbag's decision to line their own pockets.

The only reason our unions aren't as disgustingly ANTI membership as unions such as SEIU etc... is because when WE decide their bullshit ways are done we have the power to actually cripple a city.

Police and fire hold the health and safety of the city in their hands. We aren't beholden to a union or a fuckhead like emanuel for a fucking thing. If they push us beyond our limit WE can divide and conquer back in turn.

Firemen need to find a way to publicly rebuke their own union's endorsement of this cocksucker.

Someone's got to have enough brains to find a way to get the membership's opinion out and into the media somehow, even with the likelihood of their own union trying to snuff out any attempts to divulge the truth.

'The Chicago Blackhawks’ Patrick Sharp is a class act.

As part of the “#WhatsYourGoal” campaign, Sharp decided to make a very special Blackhawks fan’s dreams come true. Christina — a young girl who was born blind — had always wanted to attend a Blackhawks game at the United Center in Chicago, and thanks to their star left-winger, the Blackhawks were able to grant that wish.

Cue tears.

NYC may yank terrorism report to appease mosque ‘spying’ critics

Published January 18, 2015
New York Post

"In top-secret talks to settle federal lawsuits against the NYPD for monitoring mosques, the city is weighing a demand that it scrub from its website a report on Islamic terrorists, The New York Post has learned.

"The groundbreaking, 92-page report, titled “Radicalization in the West: The Homegrown Threat,” angers critics who say it promotes “religious profiling” and discrimination against Muslims. But law-enforcement sources say removing the report now would come at the worst time — after mounting terror attacks by Islamic extremists in Paris, Boston, Sydney and Ottawa.

"Here in New York, Zale Thompson, a man who heeded online calls by ISIS for jihad, attacked two NYPD officers with a hatchet in October.

“The harm is that it sends the message that the NYPD is going to back down on its counterterrorism effort in the name of political correctness,” said a former NYPD official. “Shame on the NYPD if they do.”

To the writer who wrote that Fioretti wanted to take away duty availability. That is a total complete lie and fabrication and all it is is Rahm's dirty little tricks and lies. Fioretti is a cancer survivor as I am. This makes one very different. It makes one caring. Everytime I have contacted his office I received total great care. And I do believe that Rahm put Garcia, the cop hater, in with the promise of future stuff to enabling, cop hater Preckwinkle. Its about time you all wake up as to what the alternative will be for all Chicago police and firemen if Rahm or Garcia win. Look at whats happening to New York under DiBlasio. Rahm will not support you ever and Chuy will blame you if you arrest any minority. Fioretti is the only choice before its too late. The safety of this city depend on it. Feel free to contact Fioretti if you really want to know his position. You can't trust the media. RoN Magers from 7 and Micah Mattere from channel 9 are doing campaign commercials for Rahm. Talk to Bob directly to get the truth. Hes avaialable to answer your questions.

We need to stop the divisiveness with fire and police. Police should visit the firehouses and put that bad union stuff behind us. Stop by and have a bowl of the flaming hot firehouse chili. You can even climb atop the pumper truck with its dazzling polished chrome and ding-a-ling ring the bell. If you place nice you can even slide down the pole. Note, pole dancing is only permissible on the weekends when everybody dresses up. Its time to change the image of burly trench coat adorned men blasting the air horn, squealing the siren with all those flashing disco lights. Take off your safety vest, join us for the chili and enjoy the ambiance complete with soft lighting and Kenny G serenading the boys in blue. FOP endorsed Nick Sposato a fireman who says he is the incumbent in the 38th ward, but he is still the alderman of the 36th ward, they re-districted the 36th ward because of it being home to a lot of Hispanics and bumped him out because he didn't play nice with the city, now he bought a house in the 38th ward and is trying to be alderman there, but quess what, he will not get anything done from city services because they hate him. 38th ward will get nothing done just like the 4 yrs. Sposato did in the 36th ward. He did get a street dedicated to 2 officers killed in the line of duty, but hey Nick where are the new speed bumps in the alley behind your ward office.

This almost sounds like what Sgt.'s association goofs (Ade & Co.) did when they hopped in bed with Rahm with that ridiculously one sided contract proposal they wanted the Sgt.'s to approve. They were all on board with it but the membership wasn't and they overwhelmingly voted it down.
It could be that the rank and file firemen wouldn't piss on Rahm if he was on fire but their stooges in Union leadership are too cozy with Rahm to feel that way.

Hey Einstein:
Nobody is talking about rolling out the 10hr days citywide this year..... the rumor is its coming citywide next year.
We haven't picked watches, furlo's etc yet for next year so it's quite possible Dean and the city have this in store for us.

Hey brainchild, if we leave then we give up every right to ask for anything in contract talks because the city will turn around and tell us because we left (therefore gutting the cities income from our taxes, real estate and otherwise) that they cannot afford to give us anything. It sucks but there is a give and take that most people ignore.

There is another 65 Sgts with 28+years on the job who can retire this year in 2015. I'm not going to get promoted to Sgt because of my score.

1/18/2015 07:28:00 AM

No one is trying to rain on your parade. Nor am I purposefully trying to be negative. But it is important to be realistic. The city's finances are a mess and they won't be in a hurry to hire a new batch of sergeant's. At this sordid pace the next sergeant's test will be in 12 to 15 years if that. I wish you the best and keep your head up.

The firefighters have and continue to enjoy having one of the best FD contracts in the entire nation. They gave up nothing in their current contract. The current challengers are a weak field. If you consider a hundred disgruntled paramedics forming a PAC a "house divided" you are mistaken. The firefighters throughout the entire state have enjoyed some real success in Springfield due to the fact they speak in one overwhelmingly unified voice. Not a knock on the police but their are numerous unions that represent them. From the FOP to the Teamsters and everyone in between, the agendas are all over the map. Local 2 and the AFFI make their endorsements based on reality and not emotion.

Ha ha ha stupid firefighters. If Rahm gets re-elected, he will cancel their raises, claiming the city can't afford it. Just like he did to the teachers. 11% over 5 years? That's only 2.2% per year. I get 2.75% every year, and I DON'T RISK MY LIFE. Wait til after the election and the city takes their union to arbitration to knock the fifth man off the truck. Every other city has four.
---Mike the city worker

Mike, you have no clue. Teachers lost their 4 % raise because it was written in the contract that if the city didnt have the funds, the teachers wouldnt get that 4% The teachers union knew that was in the contract and the teachers ratified that contract.
As far as the firefighters losing the 5th man on the truck that was negotiated before the contract was ratified with and by the city. Arbitration is done prior to the contract not after. Not sure of all the details but the city and ff union agreed to some sort of limited exemptions to the 5th man rule. They call is something different but it excludes the 5th man manning to a certain percentage of trucks.
