You Know What They Need?
Some kind of passage. A passage that's....safe. Safe for people to walk to and from home:
- Two men were shot, one of them fatally, near a Brighton Park elementary school on the Southwest Side early Tuesday evening, according to police.
An 18-year-old was shot in the arm and back, and a 21-year-old was shot in the face about 5 p.m. in the 4200 block of South Rockwell Street, police said.
Both were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital -- the older man in critical condition and the younger in serious condition. The 21-year-old later died, Chicago police spokeswoman Bari Lemmon said.
Shields Elementary School is on that block.
Good thing school wasn't in session or they'd be reviving that boondoggle in short order.

For anyone who cares retro checks will be here Friday.
A school means nothing to them. They have no happy memories of school.
Any word on retro? Holiday calendar? Quinn releasing that p.o.s.? I thought this regime was going to be more active and listen to members!
OT: Justice in Georgia, at long last.
---
(Tuesday 13Jan2015)
Andrew Brannan, a decorated Vietnam War veteran convicted of murdering a 22-year-old sheriff's deputy in 1998, was executed Tuesday, said Gwendolyn Hogan, spokeswoman for the Georgia Department of Corrections.
Earlier in the day, the Georgia Supreme Court joined the state's parole board in declining to stop the execution.
The justices denied a stay of execution by a vote of 6-1, with one justice not participating.
Brannan was scheduled to die of lethal injection at 7 p.m. ET Tuesday at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson.
Hogan said the court ordered execution was carried out at 8:33 p.m. ET. She said a final statement was given, expressing remorse to the family of the slain deputy.
...it was rumored that the 18 year old was a fourth grader and the 21 year old is a third grader. They were fighting over a box of crayons
That's not considered a ghetto enough neighborhood to have Safe Passage.
When 009 district had any Safe Passage route whatsoever it was in the ghetto from 51st to 55th and Shields. That route since has been being handled by Englewood.
The whole double standard about that ridiculous Safe Passage BS Rahm invented was that only the ghetto dwellers benefited from the dog and pony show.
If you didn't live in the ghetto you and your kids were on their own.
You know what they really need? A civic leader that wasn’t a liberal fascist and willing to live with animals that steal the liberty from our citizens.
Was the SNITCH BOX there?
We lived in tis area for years when it was mostlyPolish this never happened wonder what changed? And late afternoon, big then again the thugs and punks know if they are arrested they will either get a light sentence of walk in the corrupt county court system, or if they fight the police or attempt o hurt or disarm police their social economic status will reflect they were not "thinking correctly" and it goes on middle of winter cannot stuff the crime!
Boondoggle. I like that word. You're being kind. Clusterfuck is more appropriate.
Now, Kees me you fool!!!!
"Some kind of passage."
I am starting to envision concrete structures like giant termite mud-tunnels, running down selected sidewalks all over town. Still wouldn't help.
Get 3000 surplus MRAPS, paint them the mandated bright yellow and "SCHOOL BUS," and run those on the routes. "Huh uh. On'y fool ride up in that thing."
Etc.
"Shields Elementary School is on that block."
Like it stands there and emits "safety rays" or something.
Could have been first day of school and the idiots would still open up on each other right there.
"Enhanced penalties" on the "dark-colored van" that disappeared around the corner.
"WHOO! WE SCARED!"

FOOD FIGHT: Alabama principal seeks cans of food to defend against intruders
January 13, 2015
"VALLEY, Ala. – An eastern Alabama school principal is asking students to bring cans of food such as corn and peas as a way of fighting off a school intruder.
"W.F. Burns Middle School Principal Priscella Holley said in a Friday letter to parents that a can could stun an intruder "or even knock him out" until police arrive.
"Holley wrote that the cans would empower students if an intruder enters their classroom at the school in Valley, Alabama.
"Chambers County Schools Superintendent Kelli Hodge told The Associated Press the letter was sent after school employees received training from Auburn University's public safety department.
"Hodge says throwing cans or other items would be a last resort for students unable to evacuate. She says the cans would be stored in classrooms and students wouldn't be carrying them around school."

In some countries, there's a loaded Uzi clipped in the kneehole of the desk by the front door.
What do they know?
A successful "Safe Passage" should be all about not poking a finger through the toilet paper when you're done...

OT: Props to the officers who stopped when I flagged them down in the Gold Coast last night, due to a nutmeg on Division who hit me (and got it right back) while I walked home from the Red Line. 18 rocks!

So you mean to tell me that your old Polish neighborhood was all clean and no gangs? It was all rainbows and sunshine right? Get a life pal. Crime happens everywhere.
Rahm brought in McHatchetman in not only to cut to cost of the CPD but also to destroy the institutional memory and very soul of this Department.
To do this he has to get rid of all bosses who remember what it was to be the police under Old School bosses and replace them with young people who know nothing with no police skills, no people sills and will only follow his orders to get activity.
If we do not get rid of this goof it will not be too long before all the supervisors and exempts will be all his appointed people.
No could you imagine if anything like what happened between de Blasio and the NYPD were to happen here? If we were to turn our backs on Rahm or march on City Hall with all the new gold stars McNumbnuts would make threatening phone calls and the bosses would make the lives of officers miserable.
GET ACTIVITY OR ELSE!
We can only hope that sooner or later he will screw himself up enough to be dismissed and it will be something that will not take good cops with him and something that Sneed and company cannot ignore.
Schools are useless in the ghetto. All they have to do is wait until they turn 18 and then they can collect SSI for whatever. No need to get a job when the taxpayers will cover you cradle to grave!

=============================
I have news for you, this area IS a shithole! I worked in 009 from the mid 80's till the late 90's. In my early years, yes it was a nice area. That slowly began to disintegrate. A very clean and neat Polish area (Five Holy Martyrs) with some Lithuanian mixed in a little further east.
Archer Avenue was a vibrant hub of activity!
Then it turned into gangbanger heaven and thus a shithole it became.

The question would be "who let the area decline like that" then.
My Dad grew up in the 79th and Jefferies area in the late 50's....drove through a few weeks ago and went "WTF" with all the decline in the region. Said no way he'd live there now without an Abrams and a M240

no pal it was good no shootings,no gangbanging illegals everywhere!
"A Passage to India". Great movie.
To the idiot at 4:47 PM. Why would you dump Leo ?!
He is a great boss and a great person. You are a complete fool to think that the commander should be dumped , because 2 fucking idiots go into their rivals neighborhood and take photos of themselves flashing gang signs. The people you should be upset with are the parents of those 2 jackasses. I have 3 words for you dickhead , late term abortion.
I'm mexican-American.
Born and raised in little village. That used to be pretty much Polish and Czech until Mexican immigrants began to predominate housing and rental stock.
The same was true for the Bohemian Pilsen area, the back of the yards, and Brighton/McKinley Park areas and now most of the southwest side.
We all know the story. It's as old as the city itself.
Someone else built a neighborhood. The original community members left or died and the newcomers didn't have the same care and respect for it because they didn't build it.
They moved in and brought a different set of priorities, ethics, and cultural values.
In spite of our shared Catholic tradition, we Mexicans, too many of us, DROPPED THE BALL BIG TIME.
The parents gave too much leniency and autonomy to their males, and not enough importance on discipline and demand for decency, patriotism and respect for citizenship. And I don't mean legal citizenship, I mean civic duty.
The males in hispanic neighborhoods involved in gangs are lost. There is no program or rehabilitation possible when you are dealing with individuals who have submitted to blood oaths and cult-like obedience ceremonies and rituals. Animal and savage behavior exists side by side with good hardworking law abiding people who don't know how to say they will not tolerate this terrible lowering of basic living standards.
The murder rate may be down but so is the morality. The gangs don't even illicit the same revulsion anymore. The newer Mexican immigrants just seem to accept it like it's just part of living here.

Used to take IC to 70/Jeffery area to see the doctor, early '60s when I was a kid. Beautiful, clean setup, great doc, little pharmacy/gift shop right there in building. Lots of shopping, all kinds of fun things to do before you went home.
In a few years it became a taxi. Then we found another doctor. Soon he himself got the idea and left. Building derelict, trashed, "FOR SALE OR LEASE" and no takers last time I saw.

The Chicago Tribune just released 34 archive photos of crime scenes and/or offenders. The photos date from early 1900s to about 1950s.All offenders were white except one. Your neighborhood had criminals. F/2 juvenile burglary offenders in the 6100 block of S. California; M/2 gangster whacked at 76th & Exchange;that same gangster ran bookmaking operation at 79th & Ashland. The only thing that has changed are complexions.
Not quite. If people are gonna make excuses for the poor and a lack of opportunity or lack of education, then the further back we go the more excuses can be made.
poverty, malnourishment, lack of access to free schooling, medical care, or any other safety net-those were real during the first half of the last century.
no ssdi, no link card, no section 8, no medicaid, no free lunch, free backpacks, free rides to school, free utlities...
no internet, no free phone, no 20 year olds still in high school, no ged, no unemployment compensation benefits, no job training no financial aid...
and yet, somehow, those groups in those pictures still ascended and resorted to violent crime less and less in a few generations.
fast forward to today and the mayhem, in spite of a drop in the population in chicago from well over three million in the fifties to well under three million today, continues to rise in one descending demographic.
