Burge Free
- Former Chicago Police Cmdr. Jon Burge has been released from a Florida halfway house after 4 ½ years in federal custody for lying about the torture of suspects.
Darlene Tyler, the residential re-entry manager at the Orlando-area facility, says Burge was released Friday, a day early, because his scheduled release date fell on a weekend.
No doubt someone in the media will be bitching about that last day.

Correction - he did 4.5 years for lying at a civil deposition. He didn't torture anyone so there was no need to lie about that!

4.5 years for lying at a civil deposition tell me they didn't want to fuck this guy. I can't remember anyone ever being disciplined let alone jailed for lying on a civil deposition. Ask the former head of I.A.D who got caught lying in a trial what kind od jail time did she get. He should have pled the fifth and never spent a day in jail. Torture is good for murderers and rapists. It's a tool like the lie box.
Burge was a real police officer, ya so there were some heads cracked but that is what is needed. Look at the violence today. You pussified liberals need to be a victim of a crime and see if you don't want Burge interviewing the offender. Hate to see your wife or daughter raped and then complain the police did nothing. Burge did what he needed to do at that time. And please don't tell me some guys were innocent. Not one west side south side offender is innocent. If they didn't get caught for one crime they will for a another crime.

The most ridiculous thing I've ever seen posted about Burge. If anything, our former Supt. at the time (Richard Brzeczek) should have served that time with him. Brzeczek knew full well what was going on, and did nothing about it for years. And now we're going to blame black bosses (however few there were during the time all of this was occurring) for what happened? Unbelievable.

Interesting that despite all the torture allegations against Burge, and the lawsuits, and the negociated payouts, he was tried twice in the criminal courts for allegedly torturing suspects,and was found not guilty both times. This was because the officers testified in those cases, and the torture stories were not found believable. Most of the civil lawsuits were settled out of court, because the police officers involved pleaded the Fifth and refused to testify at civil trials. If those officers had been given immunity, and testified to refute the torture stories,it would have saved the city millions. Too bad for the tax payers, it wasnt politically correct to do so.

Correction to original post on 02/17, 0914: Burge was not tried in the criminal courts, except for the federal perjury charge which led to his incarceration. Burge was cleared in two civil suits in 1989 relating to the Andrew Wilson case.
