Nice Neighborhood...Sort Of
- Logan Square has long been known for its public art projects and, more recently, for its trendy restaurants and bustling bars.
Lately, it’s also become one of the city’s hot spots for murder.
There have been five killings so far this year in the Northwest Side neighborhood. That puts Logan Square in a four-way tie with North Lawndale, Roseland and South Shore for the third-most murders this year among Chicago’s 77 official community areas.
The only areas with more murders this year: Austin, with seven, and West Englewood, with six.
Over the past decade, it’s taken a full year, on average, for Logan Square to see as many killings as it already has this year in less than four months.
That’s come as a shock to many in a community with a reputation as relatively safe.
Not exactly the shithole it was back in the 1970's, so what's the issue?

To call a couple of these addresses of occurrence 'Logan Square' is a joke.
This story is much ado about darned near nothing. Another make-it-up-as-you-go-along headline-grabber and to hell with the facts. A native Chicagoan would never have written this story and tried to pass it off as fact.
And, no, Logan Square has not been 'long known for its art installations', etc., etc. It has only, in the past few years, finally been recognized as a charming, historic, desirable area. (And it's now being unalterably damaged by those who think it needs to be updated, renovated, demolished and hipsterificated.) Yippee.

There was a time there were around a hundred murders a year in the old 014. 013 was right next door, that was a huge bag of shit also. Henry Horner Homes, Rockwell gardens and so on. The first pile of brain matter I ever saw splattered all over a bar was actually in 013 in a bucket of blood on Division St near Damen. Now the young and hip crowd go there and spend too much on trendy drinks.

Logan Square and Wicker Park are trendy neighborhoods. But they are also very close to the shit neighborhoods too. So naturally shit heads like to hang out there and cause mayhem. Wicker Park leads the city in burglary to autos and garages.

There is no issue - the Slum Times considers a huge piece of 14, 17 and 25 to be Logan Square. Not exactly how it's known to the residents and businesses.
If we cannot stop the people that need stopping without worrying about civil suits in addition to getting killed, this will get worse. The bad guys use the Constitution against us now with the help of unscrupulous lawyers.

Diversity is the solution. Diversity works every time it is implemented. Logan Square needs to encourage more affordable housing for the poorest amongst us. Give the poor a stake in your neighborhood and this will foster a renewed spirit of inclusiveness belonging to this upscale gentrified community. Society’s forgotten low income residents will exercise responsibility stepping up to the plate ensuring a safe, cohesive utopian multi-cultural community.
The value added to the neighborhood will soundly exceed the best investments Wall Street has to offer. Those who resist must be ostracized by the Aulinsky tactic of name calling referring them as bigots, one-percenters, obstructionists, close minded extremists and the like. Inclusiveness and gentrification go hand in hand. Low income resident vouchers and re-location programs will always offer hope and change for those forgotten by the private sector’s fat cat 9 to 5 get rich, take home a paycheck minus taxes well off employed residents.
Logan Square needs more art festivals with themes such as social justice, income equality, procedural justice, cultural diversity and innocence projects. Residents and those from other communities would be re-educated in the latest academic teachings to combat inner city violence and disrespect for inner city youth.
Residents should demand more funding for needle exchange clinics, felons to work centers, upscale no-cost food pantries, supplemental nutritional soup kitchens, used clothing redistribution centers, public assistance facilities and alternative to incarceration facilities. These programs can be managed and overseen by compensated college professors and volunteers from Logan Square and the progressive art communities. The success from these programs will give a second chance to felons giving them an alternative to a criminal lifestyle.

Some of these problems, such as the double murder at the Dolphin, were caused by SouthSide shitheads having their fun at the NorthSide's expense.

Hard to imagine how the neighborhoods in question can lose their soft underbelly of crime. Even with the large influx of hipsters, the lowlifes will continue to hunt for digs they can kind of afford, at least those trying to be legit with some kind of job and not scamming whatever landlords they get to feel sorry for them.

You do realize almost of the hispanics and their gangs in 014 are of puerto rican descent. When 014 was ten times worse in the 90's it was virtually all puerto ricans. In case you didn't know because you're some Mt. Greenwood hick, Puerto Ricans are natural american citizens.
Gangs go where the money is. They no longer want a piece of crap neighborhood as turf. They can make more money selling drugs to the affluent yuppies.

Haha I guess that's why there are 2 big puerto Rican flags on western and California or why the puerto rican parade is centered there.. Ask anyone who lives in 014 who the majority of hispanics in the area are. Your trying to say 014 is becoming a shithole because there are hordes of"central americans" and mexicans moving in. When in fact it was way worse when there weren't any in the 90's ask any 014 vet or just look at the numbers chief.
It's easy; just write a poorly researched story incorporating murders in Bucktown and Wicker Park and call it all "Logan Square." Shutting down The Dolphin will greatly reduce the crime rate for the entire region.
