Here Comes More Spending
Remember, Presidential Libraries are (usually) built with contributions and then "donated" to the National Archives and Records Administration, which then "maintains" the library at public cost. Of course, there's always the "start-up" costs:
- If the Barack Obama Presidential Center is built in Washington Park, the city envisions a walking community, where visitors would step off a CTA Green Line train and stroll along decoratively landscaped sidewalks, lined with pedestrian scale lighting and seating areas.
In Jackson Park, visitors might spend an afternoon biking from the lakefront to a well-lit, paved trail through the Midway Plaisance to the Obama center. Others might prefer to take the No. 10 CTA bus from downtown to the Museum of Science and Industry and then on to a new stop at the presidential library.
The two ideas are among a list of proposals Mayor Rahm Emanuel's office submitted to the University of Chicago last year to strengthen its bid to place the Obama library and museum on the South Side in one of the two parks. Most of the proposals address transforming areas fraught with crime and neglect into a safe and inviting environment where visitors feel at ease — a key challenge for the first presidential center built in a low-income, urban neighborhood.
But Crime is Down!? Or so we heard.
And in true Illinois fashion, have you seen the projected fantasy numbers this library will have to pull in to even break even?
And in true Illinois fashion, have you seen the projected fantasy numbers this library will have to pull in to even break even?
- A study commissioned by the U. of C. last year suggested that the library and museum would have a $220 million a year economic impact on the city, primarily due to an increase in visitors. To reach that goal, the Obama center would have to draw 800,000 visitors a year — more than the combined number who visited the presidential libraries of Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton last year and significantly higher than the 491,000 who visited the newest presidential library — that of George W. Bush.
Don't look now, but Obama is now less popular than W. and certainly doesn't come anywhere near Ronnie's or Willie's numbers...which might just translate into less visitor numbers, which mean Chicago is going to be eating the associated costs with this monstrosity for decades to come.
But this is a "win" for Rahm and Chicago.

Wait until after the first couple of years when all of that "security" dries up or gets shifted to another area. Wait until the city stops paying attention to burned out streetlights or damaged sidewalks. This may end up being the first presidential library to get boarded up and taken over by squatters. I guess, in the end, it would be fitting of obama's legacy.
A. Obama is as forgettable as Millard Fillmore -- and that's now. Look toward the future, when he'll be just a Dead Tan Guy.
He's as ephemeral as the fad of naming everything "Milennium." Only thing still called that in the city is that stupid park. Even the Milennium gyros joint changed its name ten years ago.
B. ...and put the thing in a dangerous area to boot.
C. Won't fly.
D. We'll pay...and pay...and pay.
Allow us, SCC...
"But this is a big win for Rahm and his big money
campaign contributors."
Chicago "wins" the equivalent of dick-all...
What, in the entirety of all eye-watering fuck
is going to be housed for posterity in this monument to
a well spoken, freedom hating nation wrecking Poot-Butt?
So much of his thoughts, opinions and writings were/are
"under seal" and other such foolishness designed to keep
Americans from gleaning any insight into what makes this

The "Lie-Barry" itself?
A TelePrompTer.
A bunch of rapidly strobing, flashy-blinky, seizure inducing,
interactive, mind-rotting revisionist progressive narrative
BULLSHIT.

Check your shoes when you come out the place.
Watch out for a little sneak thief and pick-pocket
named Rahm...
I will be happy to visit Chitcago if the Obama Library has an Obama bust installed in the washroom urinal.
These financial projections assume tourists and academics will be getting on a plane SOLELY to visit this library. This assumes additional airport taxes, taxi service, rental cars, hotel rooms, restaurants, waitstaff, additional bus drivers will translate to revenue. But a stop at this library will be incidental to most visitors, except hardcore academics (who might make a special trip for research).
It will simply be another thing on a list that tourists might do on a trip to Chicago, which means NO additional income, no additional rental cars, no additional plane tickets, etc., beyond the sale of souvenir coins, t-shirts and calendars in the library gift shop and the creation of a couple dozen jobs for docents and maintenance staff.
These impressive numbers are nonsense.
It is also a win for Obama, who is much more popular than you think. They will flock to his library from all over the world. And don't forget, the library will be surrounded by his children.
As a bonus, the City could build the Valarie Jarrett library as an attached annex. That would really help draw the crowds.
I won't be going and I will disown any family member who attempts to go, although I doubt any of them will go near the place.
I predict gentrification coming to a library near you. Squeeze the scum out to the country. I mean suburbs.
That sounds so perfect. I might even travel south to visit.
NOT!!!!!
Now, kees me you fool!!!!
Well, at least you wont have the cost of buying books if you put it in one of those areas. Maybe Muary Povich can also start conducting paternity tests for his show here too.
Why would anyone visit? What can they possibly fill it with? Vacation photos and golf clubs?
The people that want to go to this boondoggle can't afford the entry fee. Even if every person in Chicago Paid to go there there once,(and that's not going to happen) do the planners think they will go back again and again? Are the exhibits going to change from year to year? Fuck no. It will be the same stupid shit gathering dust from year to year. What a fucking waste of money. This shit, Maggie Park, Depaul stadium..tax dollar after tax dollar pissed away. You want to do something good for that area? Something that will provide needed services and some jobs that have a future? Not jobs where people stand around and hand out brochures? Build a trauma center.
Oh, and fund our fucking pension.
I can't wait to visit the President Obama's Greatest Accomplishments Envelope, It is currently empty.
Old Retired Guy Here Again ............!
Have to comment on this one. In my opinion, this "Library" is the Obama's "Feeble" attempt to display some alliance to the city and the supporters that made it all possible. They wouldn't come back and live here on a bet. All of you can go to the "Library" and admired all they did for us. The audience for this "Library", in my opinion, will last two to five years, at the most. After that no one will come, for all the obvious reasons.
What the hell are they going to put in this Lie-brary? What has he done but create chaos in the Middle East and the USA as he's demonized the police, flouted the Constitution, corrupted the DOJ, IRS, DEA and had the divorce records of a private citizen released?
I am willing to forgo all that cash and let NY or Hawaii have it. I am generous that way.
The JokeBama liberry is going to be a train wreck.
If you are down in Texas, visit the GW Bush at SMU in Dallas. Nice area, top notch facility.
The only way they're going to get numbers like that will be mandating CPS kids take a field trip to it yearly as part of their indoctrination. This of course will bring in ZERO revenue because it will be another ghettolicious freebie.
And remember, they pay the builders of this place before they pay your pension fund under the new law.
Millions in tax money already committee,...much more to come........Obama's monument to himself.........after the first rush, by the mindless left, nobody will go there
must have hired consultants from the Walt Disney Company. they really truly do sell fantasies.
He might be less popular then other, but I do see it drawing a very large number of visitors every year. A lot of the city public school kids will be going there. Plus it would be able to draw a large amount of people from a certain race that would never visit any of the others. Just so they can tell the kids that he looks like them.
An expensive facility to house so many sealed records.
Good for them ! They can see up close and personal how Obama 'fundamentally changed America'. How the residents can turn their lives around, from gang bangiin' to thieven'.
ABCD
ABCD (Ret)
Christ ! Next they'll say it can help fund the pension ...
Where do they get those numbers ? Oh, never mind, Rahm's buddies ...

I'd drive to Texas and visit the George W Bush library . But I wouldn't even consider driving to the southside of Chicago to visit the Obama library.
I can just imagine all of homeless folks and grape soda bottles that will little the area when its built.... hope they got enough beds to house all the bums everynight
"A study commissioned by the UIC..." Am I the only one who continues to see the complicity between the UCH (University of Chicago) and ploiticians? Let's go back to the Olympic Bid and the push from UIC for Chicago to win the bid. The wheeling and dealing between UCH, the White House, Mayor Daley and Mayor Emmanuel is glaring. Who standed to benefit from real estate and infrastructure improvements paid for by taxpayers if Chicago had won the Olympic bid - UCH. Who will now benefit from real estate and infrastructure improvements paid for by taxpayers now that Chicago was chosen by Obama to be home to the Obama library - UCH. Who was Michrlle Obama's former employer prior to becoming 1st Lady - UCH.
There will be lots of picture books, free condoms and needles and a smoking section for the potheads. We will pay for it.
Will his college transcripts be displayed? His birth certificate? His Marxists philosophy showcased with Soviet style posters? His allies Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn as guest communist speakers? Will they show clips of Benghazi and the action that was not taken? Will there be an IRS target of conservative groups display? Will there be a Fast and Furious firearms display? How about the presidential pack of smokes next to the Obamacare display? Can we keep our doctor if we like our doctor section? Will there be clips of how businesses didn't really build themselves up, but needed government? Will there be a section showing ISIS as a JV team and Obamao shooting hoops around them? Will they serve food for free and throw away most of it just to bill the taxpayers?

On Park District land, so hire Park District personnel to run it like a fieldhouse.
You know -- just lock it up and leave so people don't "walk on the floor."

Prepare for the full Multimedia Interactive Visitor Center experience. Trip an invisible light beam in the lobby, and it begins.
"I open the door, that Barack keeps closed, to his room, and enter into a warm, private space pervaded by a mixture of smells that so strongly speak of his presence, his liveliness, his habits – running sweat, Brut spray deodorant, smoking, eating raisins, sleeping, breathing. On Sundays Obama would lounge around, drinking coffee and solving the New York Times crossword puzzle, bare-chested, wearing a blue and white sarong.”

Yes -- as well as bongs and other paraphernalia from the "Choom Gang."
Hawaiian-style "shave ice" will also be available in the annex.
I'm especially looking forward to spending time in the section housing O's academic years.
(Build that section first. Tell O that we will build the rest of the library only after the academic section has been properly filled.)
They can display his Nobel Peace Prize next to his kill record with drones.
You know how this library gonna make cash?
Vending machines/ parking/ renting out space for clouted weddings.
The public schools will be given comps to send classes by the bus loads free. The kids will be eating in a giant vendor-teria with 3 dollar soda that cost 28 cents a piece.
The parking will not be free even thou are tax money was used to make the parking lot. The City will sell the parking to some clouted company for penny's on the dollar.
The museum will be made larger than it needs to be to allow for a few halls. The halls will be for the Alderman in the area to give out to fundraiser.
If they were smart they would have a Bin laden section since he was killed on Obamas watch.
my guess is that 10 years from now the obama library will be visited by no more than a few hundred people a month, other than scholars and researchers.

The same public school kids that don't pay for anything. School supplies, gifted. Three meals, gifted. Free admission on certain days to museums, the planitarium, aquarium and now this place. Go to any of the above on a non free day, and the CPS school kids aren't there. Unless they are from the NW side, Beverly or Mt. Greenwood or what's left of the east side. And if people DO come, it will be once.
After a couple years, this place will be emptier than a rib joint in Tel Aviv.
