I heard he lost it because a sgt did a case report of a person shoot by unknown offender and why didn't his officers do the paperwork. Also upset that the shooting happened in a box where VRI officer were officers were already gone 10 mins before check off.

A desk sergeant I once worked for was sitting behind the desk surveying a scene reminiscent of Rick’s Café Casablanca. He was shaking his head and said "Jesus, you can't swing a dead cat by the tail around here without hitting a degenerate gambler."
One guy had a Super Bowl Squares thing going, another guy had an unofficial bootleg lottery thing going. A couple of more were planning on which casino to go to after work and another guy was looking for a partner to go to Maywood Park with after work and another guy caught a job but was headed to the Indian Convenience Store first to catch the evening Lottery drawing. There was another guy who liked to work the wagon during the NCAA basketball Tournament. He could swing past the bars along Clark St and see the scores of games on the large screen TV's.

We should be paying around $2 a gallon, if not less. The public just doesn't seem to care. Thats Ok we can just talk about the Cubs or Bears football. Wake up people, we're being fleeced.

Well ,yes. Illinois and every home rule city can impose taxes on gas. And, Illinois has the "Summer blend" which raises the cost. With the refinery down there is a bidding war out there for the remaining gas in the Midwest, but taxes account for over 70 cents a gallon.The political class could change this if they wanted to, but they do not. When you add the corn into the fuel with corn at an all time high because of the weather, you add more cost. Changing any of these variables would be a political risk for the party that promoted the changes.

If KJ had any balls, he would have told the brass, "No problem," relayed the info to the officers but tell them not to do a damn thing about it and be done with it. But to dump them, that's bullshit. Actually, this superintendent has been around longer then anyone else that I can recall. Most make it only 4 years for it is a job that you are hired to be fired eventually. Besides that, it must be incredibly stressful and time consuming and who can take that for long? When I read about chiefs of other big cities around the country I really do not see any better out there. Lets not forget out own homegrown disappointments. The devil you know is better then the devil that you don't.

Yes, and others were not fired, Remember Maurice Ford of 007? He regularly took cell phone calls at night by the connected and then called the watch commander and had the person released with no charges. Even on felonies.

Even though we are under the microscope more than ever he still expects people to be stopped because everyone is suspicious, right? The days of going the extra mile are over. This is what politicians want. Every day the bosses say we need more contact cards as though they grow on trees. It's easy for them to do this because they are not on the hook. Their names aren't on them. It all falls on the lowly patrolmen.

Maybe so, but every major city in America uses some form of the contact card. They claim that it is helpful for follow up investigations and forces the beat officer to make contact with citizens.I don't see it going away anytime soon.
21 AUG - 06:42 Hrs. Mambo King actually went to the old 023 Dist. After his son was arrested for striking a PO. He should have told his son to stay in 014 if was going to batter a PO!! Cuz he "was living in Paradise!" Back then certain yute groups were being represented at roll call. The Sun Slimes got a hold of the story & The Dept quickly moved him to Cmdr of Auto Theft. Mess up & get a better assignment if you're a gold star hack. Those were the good ol days!

Chief Roti left CPD to become the chief of staff for the Illinois state police [ISP], where he will work for another recently departed senior CPD official who was appointed to be the director of ISP. It’s been in the works for some time.
I overheard gmac telling oneil that the 020 dist had the least amount of contact cards city wide. He wants 020 on the 10.5 hour day starting the 1st period of 2016. He further stated that he wonders what those coppers in 020 do all day.

If he had been paying attention he would realize nobody gives a shit anymore. Most people answer their calls and that's it. This department/city does not inspire or encourage anyone to go out of their way for it. They promote and support incompetent, self-serving supervisors and a very over-bloated administration at the expense of capable, hard-working, and intelligent officers acting in good faith and honest work ethic. They have NEVER made the well-being and safety of the officers or public a priority. In fact, all of the policies they have initiated have done the opposite; the systematic cutting of manpower and resources - patrol, evidence techs, detectives, K-9, overworking existing officers through VRI and overtime, changing uniform regulations to needlessly encumber and discomfort officers, denying time due and arbitrarily restricting days off -- just to name a few. Changing the hours is a drop in the proverbial bucket which will do nothing but bring more discontent to those who actually work. "20 and out" is the new consensus among 90% of the rank and file.
I wouldnt take away a copper familys car just over a little weed. Unless they were being jagoffs.
Coppers from my era just didnt hurt each other like that. We had the brains to look at the big picture, what all these clout babies and Politicians got away with, and we tended not to hurt each other over bullshit. I wouldnt have even pinched them actually.
But its over. Its all over. This job has to many self righteous kunts on it now that have convinced themselves its all on the up and up. I never hurt another copper or his family. And Im proud of it.

I remember being the Acting WC in Special Operations back in the day when they made us all work in the BOX. we had to respond to only jobs in the box, well my team was out in 5 one night and the Metra police called for help at the station at 115th and Count st. well I told all my guys to go and me too. WE made a few arrests over this and the ADS Sodini flipped out and was so so upset that we left the box, they tried to dump me but didn't. Another time 2 men get shot in the box at 0230 hrs out in 5 and they bitched at me and wanted me to write a report as to why nobody responded. I said DUH, we work 17:30 -0200 hrs. Dumb ass bosses said we work 1800-0230, I said well either way travelling back from 5 to Homan Square takes time. Fucking Idiots!!!!!!! And they still exist.

That gold braid 75% even if your rank was patrolman (like rahms commanders) you get about $130,000 year pension plus another big job example Grau,Schmitz,Dugan,roti, just for a start and another inflated pension! Then you have how many "security specialists" d-3 pay sergeants pension patrolmen rank like on treasurer city clerk and rahms detail! Pension is $15,000 more than patrolman their rank! It's ashamed that the Commander in 5th Dist didn't back his officers.
Now he has to eat shit because he's the product of an untrained Commander and a clout baby.
It's terrible because I know those officers and they are good guys.
Didn't even see it coming and the sad part is that both are Military Men.
One served in the Army and the other is a Marine who has been deployed twice to Desert storm To serve and protect our country.
Both are very highly trained and skilled officers and should not be punished for doing their jobs.
Really like to see how this plays out.
Heard that their tact lieutenant was instrumental in getting the first officer dumped but shit got real when they dumped the other officer a month later.

Whenever I had to go to Compstat meetings I would turn on the 'record' button on my phone. There are speakers all over that room so you could hear everything. Mostly they're just mind-numbingly boring however. I was at the one where Gar walked out and made everyone come back the next day. Everyone was shaking their heads and laughing after he left.

Hey SCC, can someone figure out the financial cost of Comp Stat per month, not counting outside Units and the Unit itself designed to administer CS. My math will be rough but I'm sure this topic will bring out a real number.
22 Districts with at least 4 full time people working the numbers all week. (which they are in every single district in the city and all units have a few as well.)
An average of $45 per hour X 8 hours = $360 per day per officer X 4 officers = $1440 a day for all 4 officers X 5 days = $7200 X 4 weeks = $28,800 per month per district for 4 full time officers just working Comp Stat X 22 districts = $633,600 per month to run Comp Stat numbers for Districts only.
Now factor in all the units at probably 3 officers each unit (yes, EVERY unit has officers assembling stats for CS) and the full time unit to assemble all the Comp Stat power-points plus the cost of all exempts salary per hour as they sit for 3 hrs every Thursday. I would bet Comp Stat easily costs over $1,000,000 to run every month.

I can't speak for the crew in 020 that works between 2pm and 7am...but for the street cops working between 7am and 2pm...a good percentage of them drive up and down streets the wrong way looking for street cleaning tickets to write.
And then there is the foot patrol cop that does nothing but walk up and down Bryn Mawr from Broadway to Sheridan all shift.
Probably logging a lot of Starbucks time.
