Gig the Sergeants?

An amusing rumor - but we've been around far too long to dismiss it out of hand:
  • Sergeants will now be disciplined for patrolmen's uniform infractions.

If you were all good at roll call, then changed to unapproved items after roll call, the sgt is liable for that if an inspector grabs you for it. Even if the sgt hasn't SEEN you since roll call, the sgt is taking the hit.

And, no, this isn't a clever bit of sarcasm. It's the Dept's latest insane policy.
This looks like a perfectly winnable slam-dunk grievance (and hostile workplace lawsuit) for the PBPA should it ever come to pass. Discipline for someone doing something they haven't even seen? We could indict the entire city council for accepting bribes in that case.

...unless they're actually going to assign a sergeant to ride with each and every patrol officer on the streets? Could that be the hidden plan? Have we discovered the Rahm plot to promote and extra seven-thousand sergeants who would then owe him eternal and undying allegiance?

This could be brilliant! And we'd actually have a chance of making sergeant for the first time in three tests!

Either way this is an Onion Article that is really hitting close to home with Rahm and his property tax proposals.

If they'd introduced this policy back when this department still had a majority of what were real men wearing the uniform, handfuls would've coordinated to make sure the sergeants who were the biggest jagoffs had it stuck deep in their ass.

But since this policy wasn't around circa 1986+, coppers who were real men threw fists in the parking lot or at the gin mill after work and settled it then and there. No CR's. No rank pulled. No getting the Captain involved if you got your ass handed to you. And sure as hell no GOCR's or CB numbers generated.

The whole "shit rolls downhill" thingy might actually be fun for once if it means watching your favorite sergeants get their dicks slapped first. That, of course, if the rumor has any legs. Time will tell...

How about a sergeant and two patrol officers? The extra eyes and extra firepower might be needed.
Las Vegas went to two officers per car after an officer was ambushed this week. Three days later a patrol car with two officers was also attacked.

A friend, who says this is true, says he's going to have to take a photo of everyone on his log every time he sees them. I was lucky to see, and maybe get a wave from, every car assigned to me, with two sheets of people to log, much less get them to pose for a photo. The whole department has gone off the rails.

That was CPD policy in the 70's .
Copper had long sideburns , hair over collar , worn uniforms , no beat tag , the officer would receive a reprimand , sarge would get a day.
Back then everyone wore their star , we were not worried about losing it or some punk ripping it off our shirt . Big write up for Patrolman and sergeant , on a crime scene if a patrolman wasn't wearing his hat and a sergeant was on the scene .
Big time trouble for sergeant . Now , officers have goatees , hoodies , purple stocking caps , girls with pony tails down to belt and sergeant is afraid to correct them .

I'm a district bid, and a watch bid, I can't be moved, and if it they push it I'll hit the medical or get an IOD. So there..........furthermore we have a number of inspectors that live in the district I work, so if they want this OK, live with the consequences, but I don't see it happening ......on the other hand this department is soooooooo corrupt and done nothing surprises me anymore.......

But since this policy wasn't around circa 1986+, coppers who were real men threw fists in the parking lot or at the gin mill after work and settled it then and there. No CR's. No rank pulled. I believe it, this has been a long time coming. Why do coppers think they can do whatever the fuck they want. When they are in the academy they adhere the uniform policy to a T as soon as they get off probation they were whatever hey want however they' want. Don't want to be constantly reprimanded about your uniform try washing it, ironing it, sew falling off patches, shave, ladies put your hair up and clip does finger nails, shine does shoes(sneakers are not uniform), wear a duty belt, wear your star on your shirt and not on your belt, etc.... It's not that difficult

Wow. Rarely do I see such vitriole on display on this blog; however, when I do it most surely emanates from from an author as uneducated and unpolished as yourself. You proudly state that arguments should ultimately be resolved in a parking lot or gin mill much like a ghetto mule might choose to settle a grievance. And for what, because you can't shave before work or you wear brown shoes to roll call? You are just the buffoon who needs to desperately needs to suck up to me because your stupidity left unchecked by supervision would likely land you in a jail cell. Take your "real men" and stick it in your ear-you wouldn't recognize one if he rolled over in bed next to you, mister angry man. I've seen plenty like you and yours at roll calls and it's a rare day when you actually retire with a a pension instead of an IR#. And after a few incidents like this, why does the culpability stop at the sergeant? Why not gig the Field Lt???? Give him 3!!

Well know the Orders for clothing and equipment pertaining what is prescribed and what is optional. Been my experience that most Sgts Lts and Capt don't know the Orders like they make people think they do. Hell if you are a PO learn the Orders. Knowledge is power.

There was a Sgt in 011 who was summoned to the DC office back in the day and while in uniform had a lengthy conversation with DC. The DC prided himself on knowing the Orders, though he was a Martin hack. After the conversation the Sgt walks out. The DC, always inspected everyone's uniform, when he spoke/yelled at you, never realized that the firearm/pistol worn by the Sgt had not been authorized by the Dept yet.

Bosses are as smart as they think they are.

Present yourselves like a professional and maybe, just maybe you will be treated a little better. now I know what you are thinking that this is BULLSHIT!!! and I always heard from coppers, Hey, this is a SHIT DISTRICT, why should I dress nice and I'm too busy to shave, I was in court all day, or I got up late. Tough, the rules are for all, and it is a Sergeants job along with the WC's to conduct uniform inspection and ensure that you are in conformance. Maybe you think that they are messing with you, but just do what you are paid to do. I am a retired Sergeant who only asked that my troops came to work looking good and got to details on time !!!. After five years on the job, I am happy to see that the department is finally taking action against the slobs on the job. There are officers who no longer fit in their uniforms. Hello! That is what the uniform checks are for. Shine your shoes! Show some professionalism. Learn to be the police!

I remember the wise words of an academy instructor, be the police!

The department needs to implement the ACE method.

Analyze
Comprehend
Execute, take corrective action

Wait you have 5 years and now your an expert? That shit should be joke of the day! How about YOU learn your job, get your head out of the asses of every boss you contact trying to get days, in a unit or on tac! While your at it try the EMDACTD method, what is that? Eat My Dick And Choke To Death. Supervisors can be good or bad but new bitches that know everything are the real problem with the job! Tell your mom to fix my breakfast I'm on the way over and you better not be on the 1st floor! Take your stubid ass back in the basement!

You want to intentionally get a Sgt gigged? Be careful what you wish for. That Sgt.has numerous ways to get payback.

9/08/2015 09:16:00 AM

And that would be called "retaliation". I've been around the block a couple times - I can document with the best of them. Bring it on Sgt. Toughguy. 95% of you nitwits in white shirts today aren't smart enough to cover your tracks. It's like when you log me at 123 Street, only your lazy ass is in the station or at home or in a restaurant calling me from your cell phone. I Caboodle where YOUR car is at (nowhere near 123 Street) and then get a number on you for falsifying official reports. This is just one way I'll stick it where the sun don't shine "boss". I'm not about to give away all my secrets but that's just one way I'm going to hammer you would even entertain the thought of messing with me. Last time I checked a day off for you costs considerably more than a day off for me. Let's dance.

If its true, the dept is doing this to cause problems between the ranks, the above banter shows that its working. Oldest trick in the book-divide and conquer. If both the POs and the SGTs do what is minimally expected of them, they can still keep the wolves at bay and take care of each other at the same time. Remember who the real enemy is.

"Wise word of the instructor" by a 5yr wonder

LMFAO! thats agood one :} sad reality most of those tools have no or little field experience and looking the part but only doing easy traffic stops and oemc signed complaints arrest are not real policing anymore than the desk dolly who is the real police because they deal with the public (hahahaha sorry broke out in laughter)

Being the police or so as i was taught growing up is that you watch, observe, engage. Its a lot of proactive actions but also reactive and situational. It will not be cookie cutter clean as them wise instructors (LMAO)tell ya, those true "wise instructors" have all retired

Stay safe and god bless us all

You sir are a complete fool!!!!! You are the type of officer I tell po's to stay away from! And yes we can fuck with you and all legit! How about check off at the full end of 9 hrs! Not 8.5! How about clearing from your job via the pdt and over the radio! How about no travel time for lunch. How about full uniform inspection everyday! How about stand up roll call. How about every time I hear a supervisor request from your job I pull a CR #. How about I bounce you off your car! How about if you have routinely poor attitude and zero activity I give you a poor evaluation. Then put you on personal concerns for which then you cannot get a step raise till you are off. How about every time you exit your vehicle you must have your hat on! How about if you are not a job and a 10-1 happens you go the other way and I spar you! You seem like that type of guy! How about I call for YOU to meet me twice a day then! How about everytime I hear you swear in public or have a cigarette in public I spar u! How about if you have newspaper in your vehicle I spar you!

Do I need to keep going? Just simply wear the uniform correctly how damn hard is that?????

"Like THIS?
>Stingy-brim fedora."

9/09/2015 03:06:00 AM

Straw snap-brim. Hot climate.

"Wrap-around shades. Hawaiian shirt.
Sansabelt slacks. Two-tone patent leather shoes
with the shiny buckle. COCKTAIL TOOTHPICK!
The different color tassel on the end signifies rank<

Exactly.

"Multiply the above enough times to man a caravan
black Peugeot and Citroen sedans of early 60's vintage."

...which show up en masse at the hospital, tires squealing, unass the cars and go shoving everyone out of the way in the lobby, and they drag a patient off the operating table "for questioning."

*

"S&W model 49 the sidearm of choice with two or three
chambers fused solid with rotten green bullets showing
multiple hits on the primers?"

Naw. 49 is a good solid piece. Maybe Iver Johnson "Owl's-Head" .32 S&W break-top with flaking nickel plating, cracked "pearl" grips held on with gooey black friction tape, and the aforementioned green bullets? Again, that tropical climate.

"Well, it COULD be worse if the emblem of office is a dried chicken foot
tied to a brightly painted stick..."

When you see that, you know that you have been taken to appear before the CHIEF. The guys on each side fanning him with palm fronds are another giveaway.

"We demand our own police department under the control of the community..."

"The Milice Volontaires de la Sécurité Nationale (MVSN),was a Haitian paramilitary force founded in 1958. The MVSN, commonly known as the Tonton Macoutes, was notorious for corruption and brutality.

"In Haitian Creole mythology, Tonton Macoutes was a bogeyman who kidnapped errant children in the night and stored them in his knapsack. Those who were kidnapped, it was said, were never seen again.

"After surviving an attempted coup in 1958 and growing increasingly paranoid, Duvalier...[transferred] the army's weaponry and ammunition to the palace...Duvalier created a loyal force of armed men that became his personal militia, the Tonton Macoutes. By 1963, the Macoutes were under Duvalier's personal control.

"It is estimated that in 1959, as many as 25,000 Haitians were members of the Tonton Macoutes. Their trademark attire was dark glasses, expensive clothes, and gun-filled holsters. [They] terrorized the local population, stealing land and money and raping women.

"The fall of Duvalierism resulted in the disbanding of the MVSN. Some of the former Tonton Macoutes fled the country while many who remained were subject to violent reprisal. In the subsequent elections in 1986, ex-Tonton Macoutes allegedly fired at voters, killing 34, and continued to rebel during the period of political turmoil up until 2000."

http://www.blackpast.org/gah/tonton-macoutes

What a scene. All those rope-handled, metal-cornered crates of expired-date rockets and stuff must have been hell on the parquet floor of the palace ballroom, dragging it all in, dropping it, stacking it...

Bless ya, BCP. You will have a great retirement if you can keep laughing your ass off at all this...I look forward someday to a Kessler with a PBR back with you someday...

"And more then one, Sir!"

And we promise to leave the streetlights alone.

Graham Greene did a good one too --

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Comedians_%28novel%29

...and I am also a great admirer of Robert Ruark.

The Old Man And The Boy

Ruark's upbringing in the Carolinas. A resounding American classic. Not Taught In Schools, but damned well should be.

Uhuru and Something Of Value. Life in 1950s Kenya. Absolute must-reads, along with works like Use Enough Gun, magnum opus on the sort of empty-your-pants-but-hold-steady-with-the-thunderous-Westley-And-Richards-.600-Nitro-Express big-game hunting that is now, inexorably, falling away, probably unsustainable due to human overpopulation...of course the rhino-horn poachers-for-profit with the grenade traps, the steel-cable snares, and the AKs are 95% of the problem.

Again I'll say: I can (and have) document(ed) with the best of them. You can follow thru with one or all of the idle threats you listed. I really, REALLY hope you'd try that with me because you couldn't and wouldn't be able to justify hammering one guy (me) while I document the fact that you don't enforce the rules and GOs across the board. See how easy it is to show that you'd be discriminating? Trust me when I say I'd outfox you and your little game. Just the fact that you're dumb enough to list HOW you'll discriminate tells me all I need to know. And again I'll say "Let's dance". You're just another white shirt that's too smart for his own good.
