What's All This?

  • The victim was identified as Joseph Graves, 19, of the 8400 block of South Green Street in Chicago, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Graves, who was killed Friday night in the 700 block of West 92nd Street, was one of 13 people shot in Chicago since mid-afternoon Friday, including six shot in a two-hour period early Saturday.
  • A 5-year-old boy and three other people were injured Saturday in separate shootings on the city's South and West sides.
Amazingly, none were shot by the police.

But then this little brouhaha:
  • Five people were seriously hurt Saturday in Englewood when a stolen car fleeing the police crashed into a van, the police said.

It happened around 5:45 p.m. when the car ran a stop sign and hit a van with eight people inside at 71st Street and Carpenter Avenue, according to the police.
When police caught up with the fleeing felons and attempted to put them under arrests while summoning and rendering aid to the eight other injured parties, do you think the neighborhood turned out to assist? Or even just gawk? Nope. They began to bottle and brick the police and squad cars, necessitating a rather large call-out of manpower.

Even more strangely, not a word of this attack on the police by the bystanders made it to either major newspaper. Why is that do you suppose?

"...not a word of this attack on the police by the bystanders made it to either major newspaper. Why is that do you suppose?" -- SCC

Because it's not news. Now, an "attack on the bystanders by the police," that would be around the world in three seconds.

WBBM radio -- "All LaQuan, all the time" -- has no problem with vague stories about how "the city is bracing for violence" and how "warm weather brings people out onto the streets, and that creates the threat of bloodshed."

You know. Like along the Riviera. "Vo-o-la-re..."

We'd better close those beaches, huh?

"What's all this?" Really, sir. Etiquette requires that one unass the car, walk up on the wildest scene -- half-naked people rolling out barrels marked "XXX," moon rockets going up, winged alligators chasing panicked goats-on-roller-skates -- sharply tap one's swagger stick, and inquire in a brisk, no-nonsense tone--

"What's all this, then?"

Q. "Not a word of this attack on the police by the bystanders made it to either major newspaper. Why is that, do you suppose?"

A. Because it is perfectly alright to throw rocks and bottles at the police. You can snatch their radios and phones, grab their bikes away, put a powerful bullhorn an inch from their face and blow their eardrums out, Anything you like. Nothing will happen to you.

Punch them in the head -- on camera -- and the State's Attorney will let you go "for the good of the city."

Hell, dive into a squad car window and wrestle them for their service weapon. Even if it doesn't go quite as planned, a bronze memorial plaque designating you a great guy, a hero, and a martyr will be embedded in the sidewalk, right at the very spot.

It is NOT alright, however, to throw rocks at an ALDERMAN'S house.

3 in custody after rocks thrown at Ald. Cardenas' home on West Side

The titanic is sinking and the people still not reading between the lines and still playing police will be the first to drown. I understand that some police still want to work, but here's the reason why you shouldn't. The pursuing officers will probably get sued and opened up to more scrutiny by our department. Any violation of the vehicle pursuit order will result in a hefty suspension. Now, the other thing, numerous thugs throwing bricks and bottles at police personnel on scene. Someone could get injured or even killed if hit with one of those objects , then the police have to put hands on someone to affect an arrest. Guess what !?! No one gives a fuck if you had bottles and bricks thrown at you , all they care about is that you had to kick booman's ass to get him to go to jail. Then , your faces are now on the news and you could be facing criminal charges or losing your livelihood . It's not worth it. Please don't get caught up in this shit storm for pride. It's not worth it anymore. Give these ungrateful cock suckers the police department they want. Collect your check and be stress free.

goes to show you that the news media really doesn't want to hear anything positive regarding the police and won't most definitely print anything negative about the black community attacking the police, the media is really distraught that the city is not going up for grabs. But as the police we still need to do our jobs and I'm sure that the command staff is already looking into why there was another stolen car chase. Officers please remain vigilant and I realize that it is very hard not to do your jobs but we really need to evaluate and think prior to acting out. just go to work on time, look sharp and don't give your supervisors a reason to make you look NEGATIVE. Times will most likely be coming soon and the days of cowboys are over.
just give them the minimum period. Stay Safe and Merry Christmas. PS. No matter how you feel or think, please remember those officers less fortunate during the holiday season, a small donation and a card left in the mailbox at Jeffery Van Dykes can really help out his family.

Burglary suspect hides in Florida lake, gator eats him
'A suspected burglar jumped in a Florida lake apparently hiding from law enforcement before an 11-foot alligator killed him, investigators said Monday. His hand and foot reportedly turned up inside the animal's stomach.

Brevard County Sheriff's Maj. Tod Goodyear says 22-year-old Matthew Riggins told his girlfriend he would be in Barefoot Bay to commit burglaries with another suspect. Authorities received calls Nov. 13 about two suspicious men in black walking behind homes and investigated. Riggins was reported missing the next day.

Goodyear said sheriff's divers recovered Riggins' body 10 days later in a nearby lake, and that the injuries suggested the alligator had pulled him below the surface. "He hid in the wrong place," resident Laura Farris... '

From a troll: Hey, the hell with these people. The van was probably stolen and carrying a burglary crew or a wilding party on their way downtown. NOTICE to the media: most people in this city do not care about shootings. Thats right, MOST people. Forget it already. We are Detroit. It started there in the neigborhoods of the government uneducated, improverished and unemployed people living a life of subsistance government handouts and stealing what they could from others. The people who could left the shitty neighborhoods and moved to Southfield and other suburbs and prospered with othe like minded people of all races. As Detroit continued to deteriorate, they moved downtown. Once there, businesses left because the crime spiked and the corrupt city governement did nothing but capituate to the hoards. When the businesses left because they could, the corrupt government stole the federal aid meant for the poor people of Detroit. When Kuwame and his cronies were indicted, Detroit went from about 1.8 mil people to about 600,000 or so today. Someone explain to me how Chicago differs. Rest in peace Neil Wells. I think about you often and such a waste. A guy who believed he could make the difference.

I'm suprised that police officers are wondering why the media didn't report the whole story on the car chase. The media are out to make news by screwing over cops. Quit being suprised, and use your head. Oh I forgot, unmarked, chasing, for property, have fun in court.

You should see the arrest reports these coppers are bringing in, in 007. They haven't gotten the message or just don't care because they are all still doing proactive police arrests. The scary thing is, they are all no time on the job officers and don't know what they are doing. They all really need to pick up a law book and read it and understand what probable cause is and search and seizure is. And their supervisors, for get it, they for the most part don't know what they are doing either. Just ask Sgt. Tool if a agg assault with a firearm to a citizen is a felony or misdemeanor? He also approves inventories for his guys for perishable foods. That's merit for you.And some of the supervisors on tact still think it's the oldtimes, still doing stupid things, like bending the laws and rules to gain probable cause for arrest or search and seizure, cutting corners to avoid getting search warrants signed and completed. If you are stupid enough to still be doing proactive police work in this climate at least know what you are doing or ask someone who does and make sure they are telling you the right thing. If you don't see it in print, it's not the right way then. If a supervisor tells you to do something that is illegal, you better refuse and report it. The Feds are here all ready boys and girls, smartin up or you are going to be the next headline in the news. You will be holding your head in a jail cell or call back and saying to yourself "I should have listened."

I won't argue whether they're right or wrong, but coppers in fast districts aren't going to lay down because of the comments section on the blog. It used to be citizens second guessed us but we stuck together. Now I come on here and all I read is Monday morning quarterbacking and shit talking the officers who had the misfortune to be part of a bad situation. If you hear about a tragedy like this and your first thought is to blame the officers, take a good hard look in the mirror and ask yourself if you should be the police.

Throwing bottles at cops because you like them is reminiscent of that bar scene in The Blue Brothers where the hillbillies were whipping beer bottles at the chicken wire in front of the stage...

Except this isn't a movie. It's real life, it's serious, and someone can get killed or maimed with that nonsense.

Three choices:

1) Behave like humans when morons are being arrested. Watch if you want, video if you want, but no throwing of objects, no screaming or yelling, no blocking the police or ambulance.

2) Cops arrest EVERY asshole throwing something - put them all in jail. Call it mob action, file some kind of RICO action against the shitheads if they're all in the same gang, etc. Toss them all in jail for 90 days for that crap.

3) Just don't go. Forget the calls. Show up and take the report after they're all dead. Let the coroner clean it up. Don't even send ambulances. Give the assholes in those neighborhoods what they want.

Give them those 3 choices on television - show the video of the natives throwing things at the cops when the cops are trying to help. Put it on every blog/facebook you can so the Lamestream Media has to show it...

Enough with this nonsense.

Get ready for huge punitive damages in federal court. Whoever initiated this chase, prepare for the impending headache. Its clear as day what the public expects of us. Chasing a stolen car just for being stolen... sorry to say but incredibly stupid. Administrative, civil , and in this climate maybe even criminal problems for these officers. Sad but true

In a sane universe, rocks, bottles, ball bats, hammers, etc. would be recognized as the deadly weapons they "can" be. Police would have every right to defend themselves. But that's in a sane universe. Probably one without diversity.

Soon only federal law enforcement will have trust and acceptance by the people. In most places, and in all large cities local law enforcement will fade away. Some rural areas will retain county sheriffs. County sheriffs and deputies are popular in many low population rural areas. Feds are looked upon with suspicion in those same areas.

One person from the crash in the police chase for a STOLEN CAR(against general orders to chase for) has since died. Guys and girls... Remember everything in the media over the past three weeks?? Work slow down!! Don't do a damn thing! You go out and do proactive work and this is now the spot you are in... In a time where everything we do is seen as a "conspiracy" or "collusion" to cover stuff up I hope you didn't pull the lame "I was just following" garbage. Don't do it. If you refused to abide by the work slowdown everyone has been preaching for the past week or two maybe you will now pay attention because you now have years of civil wrangling in federal court to deal with, negative press, civil lawyers, depositions, IAD investigations, traffic review board crap and the inevitable suspension for chasing a hot car which is a no no. You do pro active work and this is what happens. Think and use your head and lay low for a few months.. If you wanna work wait till the summer till this all calms down, until then just relax and hibernate till this storm passes..

#######

First off these coppers will be fine, maybe take a day or two but that's about it. Yes, they will have to deal with iAd and the civil suit but oh well it happens. They offenders caused this, these coppers are just gonna have to deal with the headache of it all and the bs civil system for violating dept policy... Not a huge deal but a headache... But guys, abide by the work slowdown and this would have never happened... Not Monday mornin quarterbacking but there aren't many people in your corner feeling bad for ya since you scabbed yourself out with proactive work for the bosses

Stay unproductive. Why would you risk yourself and other p.o' s, emergency equipment and personal to be brought to a scene of savagery? These pieces of shit will once again be sought out by some white lawyer who will march them to the c.c. and get a hefty paycheck. Why continue to serve these assholes? Let them handle their own crime. Answer your calls only. Go home safely to your families who love and appreciate you. This mayor has made it quite apparent you are not going to be appreciated for your service, but rather put through a living hell which will ultimately put your loved one through that same hell. He and every politician in this city is ready to throw you under the bus for the black vote.

They didn't have "the misfortune to be part of a bad situation." THEY PUT THEMSELVES IN THE BAD SITUATION. And they did so by knowingly violating the pursuit order. You don't have to argue whether they were right or wrong. They were wrong. I'm no fan of the pursuit policy, but I'm smart enough to realize it exists, and abide by it. If you look at this situation and don't blame the police for the situation they put themselves in, you won't be the police for long anyway, so you won't have to worry about looking at yourself in the mirror and wondering. Get a fucking clue already. Violating orders is violating orders. They've been written to put all of the blame on you when shit goes wrong. You can flex your "working police" and "real police" muscles all you want, but you're still gonna get fucked in the ass with suspensions, lawsuits, etc. Then you'll try to shift the blame to any and everyone you can, all while knowing YOU were the one who fucked up. You'll whine about how no one has your back, how your supervisors hung you out to dry, how you did the right thing, and you'll cry and beg at your benefit, expecting the rest of us to bail your dumb ass out. We've seen it all before, and we're losing the ability to give a fuck when you deliberately step on your own dick. Smarten up and protect yourself.

The balancing test comes from state law. The department dumbed down the state law into policy for people like you.
There are at least four criminal charges that I can think of, without even trying.

I hope that you are not a police officer. If you are one, then have some pride and learn about the job.

They were still acting properly under the law which is why they will be covered. They broke department rules, not state laws. You can legally chase for anything. Policy gets guys jammed up. They will take time and the city will pay out. Even if punitive is awarded initially it will be ruled out on appeal.. They acted within the law. Compensatory damages will be big for sure

"When police caught up with the fleeing felons and attempted to put them under arrests while summoning and rendering aid to the eight other injured parties, do you think the neighborhood turned out to assist? Or even just gawk? Nope. They began to bottle and brick the police and squad cars, necessitating a rather large call-out of manpower.

"Even more strangely, not a word of this attack on the police by the bystanders made it to either major newspaper. Why is that do you suppose?"

Sounds like a Muslim no-go zone. This is exactly what happens in Europe.

You don't have to break state laws to be found civilly liable. You can't legally chase for anything. Breaking department rules sometimes also means breaking state laws. What do you mean by "they will be covered?" The department won't cover them for violating policy.

I wonder what would happen if the police were pulled out of these "unpoliceable" areas? Would the surviving residents FINALLY figure out it's "their own"--NOT the police--causing the vast majority of the problems??
