- Former Gov. Deval Patrick’s administration secretly diverted nearly $27 million in public money to off-budget accounts that paid for a $1.35 million trade junket tab, bloated advertising contracts, and a deal with a federally subsidized tourism venture backed by U.S. Sen. Harry Reid, a Herald investigation has found.
The maneuver to fatten the hidden “trust” accounts with millions from state quasi-public agencies allowed Patrick to skirt the state Legislature and evade state budget cutbacks during the recession, the Herald found.
Rahm has a bad history selecting outsiders for sensitive spots:
- School CEO Jean-Claude Brizard - resigned after school strike and fighting with Rahm;
- Comptroller Amer Ahmad - indicted, fled to Pakistan. A simple Google search by SCC revealed a federal cloud gathering over Ahmad long before his tenure here in Chicago, but Rahm claims he knew nothing about it;
- School CEO BBB - indicted in a $20 million bribery scam. Also under investigation at her previous job in Detroit for the same thing;
- Superintendent McCarthy - convenient scapegoat for a political play by Rahm to keep a shooting video under wraps;
Now he's bringing in a former governor from the east coast who already smells like corruption? And he's going to be one-fifth of a committee that'll cure what ails the CPD? What a fucking joke.

• Fired chairman of the state’s Sex Offender Registry Board last year because she wanted the name of Deval’s brother-in-law, a convicted rapist, included on the list.

He should answer for these first before he starts giving recommendatioins.

That is just the tip of the Deval iceberg. I've been keeping a running tab on his scandals since I relocated to Boston five years ago. My list of red flags is long, and not close to complete. On Deval Patrick's watch:
64 dead from fungal meningitis, and nearly 700 sickened, from tainted steroid injections because Deval's hand picked Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy screwed up it's oversight of the New England Compounding Center pharmacy that made and shipped the injections all over the country.
His appointee to the MA Office of Public Safety for highways racked up 34 entries on her driving record including 7 accidents, 4 speeding violations and 2 failures to stop for a police officer. Was on medical leave for months after she crashed her state-owned car by driving off the road (allegedly while on her cell phone; the state refused to release her cell phone records). She had no safety experience prior to office.
47,000 families on state welfare from the MA Department of "Transitional" Assistance were found to be "missing" when state-mailed voter registration packs came back as "Return to sender, address unknown". Conservative estimate was $500 million a year in state aid paid via direct deposit to these families, and no one knew if they even lived here.
Massachusetts was ranked fourth worst nationwide in keeping foster children safe by the US Dept of Health and Human Services. Ranked dead last by the federal Child and Family Services Review.
Homelessness in Massachusetts increased by 14%
His brother-in-law failed to register in Massachusetts as a sex offender for his conviction in California of raping his wife, who is Deval's sister. Had to register only after it was reported in the Boston Herald. The registry then ruled he did not have to register after all. His hearing officer later resigned, saying he was pressured to change his decision and won a whistle-blower lawsuit. Deval "lost confidence" in and fired the chairwoman of the registry board and put the excecutive officer on leave over the "mishandling" of his brother-in-laws registry.
Oversaw the failed relaunch of the Massachusetts Health Connector web-site under Obamacare, at a cost now approaching $281 million. Fired the one Health Connector Board member who questioned the cost and the fact that none of it was providing health care for anyone. The US Attorney, State Attorney General and Inspector General of US Department of Health and Human Services are all now investigating an alleged cover-up of the impending failure.
Wealthy homeowners on Nantucket Island who made campaign contributions to Deval received permission to redistribute sand eroison from their east shore properties to the rest of the island
Deval's probation chief released a murderer serving three life sentences, who then murdered a police officer during a jewelry store robbery
Incidentally, Deval Patrick was born and raised in Chicago. Near 54th and Wabash in the Robert Taylor Homes, according to his autobiography. A couple years ago, a portion of Wabash near 53rd was designated "Honorary Deval Patrick Way".
In Boston, he is known as Obama's "Mini Me", a term of endearment I believe was coined by the Boston Herald's Howie Carr. Howie had a lot more to say about him yesterday:

Look at the list pro-police? hardly, it is a political witch hunt,and the bright light has hit chicago, what copper in his/her right mind would do anything to pro-police where they will be the next on the "burner", sorry not saying all coppers are great but you know what, most want to do a great job and get a pension, but with this "witch hunt" days like this are over, unfortunately the innocents will suffer, but hoping police still do whatever they can to protect each other and of course the pro-police taxpaying homefront areas! Oh, Klein and Alison Cohen, who helped our local economy by having the bikes manufactured up in Canada, are a regular tag team. They went from city to city to city pushing this. I liked the list of her charitable contributions I came across while researching. Looked like 100% to co-religionist Canadian organizations.

The focus should be crime preventon. i.e., a copper could come in at the end of tour and check off with no visible activity; however, a smart sgt can check the reports of crime on their beat. no street crime = "good job"
