Stay Off the 606

  • A cyclist who was riding on The 606 after it closed for the evening late Friday was attacked and mugged by a group of men, police said.

The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. Friday in the 3200 block of West Bloomingdale Avenue, on the western end of the 2.7-mile long elevated path that runs from Bucktown to Humboldt Park.

The 25-year-old victim, whose cell phone, wallet and bike were taken, was not seriously injured, according to Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago police spokeswoman.
Well, the "victim" was actually trespassing on Park Property after closure, but even we predicted months ago that this place would end up a hangout for undesirables - isolated, out-of-sight, minimal patrols, understaffed Police and Park District personnel. Anyone have any reports on graffiti and vandalism going on up there without a constant police presence?

[UPDATE: Might not have been actually trespassing. Numerous persons say you can cut across parks as long as you are using it as a direct line of travel after hours. Still, one has to question the wisdom of using an isolated set of former railroad tracks, out of sight/sound of regular patrols, and in fact un-patrolled after hours]

Not trespassing. Permitted to use as a throughway.

Off topic: Just took a look at the old merit promotions lists from a few years back and I can't seem to wrap my head around a certain aspect of it. Why is it that the individuals that are not able to meet the required expectations to lead others in this department via test score are the ones that are promoted to leadership positions time and again within this organization? You would think if you were an investigating body charged with the task of investigating the practices of an organization you would look no further tha the type of leadership that an organization has. But that would show that those promoted to the highest levels within our organization were not actually capable of being there based on a comprehensive exam of our rules, regulations and practices. If we worked in the private sector we would have been out of business years ago. The problem with our organization is merit, pure and simple. Individuals are promoted beyond their abilities and as a result our citizens and our organization suffers. If I was private citizen and victimized in our city I would sue for the failure to promote the best and the brightest, and forcing me to settle with some asshat that happens to have grown up with some dipshit alderman a son as my responding detective or Sgt when the beat car can't get there fast enough.

Never was s__t anyway, Cost about 80 zillion bucks, ruined quality of life for immediate neighbors (and was instantly used as an excuse by landlords wanting to force others out and raise rents sky-high), never got anyone on a bike from Point A to Point B in time to punch the clock, AND WAS BUILT WITH NO BATHROOMS.

What's a 606? Got things to do, places to get to. Think anyone on a bike is gonna go miles out of their way for 2.7 miles of convoluted bulls__t, glaring lights and other people's pit bulls?

Kidding, right?

this comment from SCC fits this Sedevic family:

"Just because you avoided Patrol by dint of birthright, political connections, or who you happened to be sleeping with. . . "

It's not park district property, it's City property. The law is different. And this is only the second reported violent crime there since it opened. The tagging has been minimal. At least on our side in 14. Maybe 25 doesn't care about your side.

I believe the actual trail is a transit corridor which is how federal funds were applied to the project. I was just up there the other day and don't recall any stated times that the trail is open/closed. So if the victim was riding I don't believe he'd be trespassing.

There is more graffiti in the residential and business areas adjacent to the 606. That trail is just like the red line - bringing undesireables to the area. I know certain streets right next to the 606 have an uptick in car breakins and thugs walking around ,,, Thanks Rahm !!!

Though The 606 website advertises the park as closing at 11 p.m. daily, the Chicago Park District Code permits usage of parks between the hours of 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. on the following day when the park is used as a direct route.

Rahm will spend another $15 mil to install more cameras, more lights, more no gun signs (and poop bag stations) all along the stretch to pacify the lib-tarded friends of the park and cyclists lobby.
Meanwhile, detectives are investigating.

Well....that's what the Cyclist gets for flaunting his *White Privilege*. You really can't fault the black youths -- this white liberal was being racist with his Macro-Aggression of having an Expense Bicycle.

When the bicyclist approached, the youths reacted to this 'macro-aggression' the only way they could, just as if the guy was shouting the 'N-word' at them -- His expense bike was 'fighting words'.

The 'fact is' that the youths know they will never afford a bike like this due to the institutional racism they'll face their entire lives. So all they did here was a little Redistribution of Wealth. And when you get down to it...they are the real victims.

It's Humboldt Park. It's shit. Urban Pioneers, Hipsters, 3rd tier yuppy, welfare babies, (FALN, WBEZ, Leovy @ Loevy, DSA, 1st ward, Socialists, Anarchist, and bangers all mixed together). They all really don't play well together. It's the border of YLO's and LK's.

But don't worry the police have body cameras. It can record them making a report, making great notifications, and touring the area with negative results.

heard some young teens slapped the ass of a female jogger on the 606. Female called them out in front of everyone present and spooked the little shits, but unless there is a constant police bike patrol. More incidents will happen.

I hear you and agree 1000%. There are so many instances where the best person for a unit is kicked to the curb because some flunky needs a spot.

Canine unit test: Bullshit
Mounted unit test: Bullshit
Marine Unit test: Bullshit

Any test that has an oral interview is fixed and I don't care that a person from personnel is there monitoring because the special people magically seem to have all the correct answers to score better than the non clouted.

How about having the good sense to stay off of the 606 after dark. There are bad people who come out at night just like blood sucking vampires. Nothing good happens after dark in that area. Use your God given brain Mr. Victim.

I'm sure your victim was no more trespassing than his assailants were. Woe to the unarmed citizen that runs into a cell phone, wallet and bicycle stealing gang of thieves.
Question: Do citizens in Chicago have a right to keep AND bear arms?
