As a CFD member I was disgusted by the language, cheers, platform given and the overvall message directed at the FOP lodge 7 as well as ALL unions with our city. We've heard over and over how people have to "own" up to their mistakes, (Alverez, Rahm, Rauner ect.) I agree and I've sent messages to Ms. Lewis, Mr. Sharkey, the CTU facebook page with this video asking for a public apology to all the city unions that have supported the CTU. No response from the leadership. Flood facebook or any other media outlet that is public with that video message. Just like the Engine 100 video, the McDonald video, and every other video that has been posted to make other look bad and embarrass them. I understand that many teachers have family in the CFD and CPD, who state this is not their views. If you want to stop all this hate speech take a stand and say enough is enough. I support the CPD and public safety in their efforts to keep our city safe. That is all.

"Under the plan, Cook County would impose a 4-cent per gallon tax on gas that would raise $50 million in revenue to fund programs to help teens find jobs. The tax is estimated to cost the average driver in Cook County about $28 a year.

At the time, during a nine-month period, the Black Liberation Army (BLA), an offshoot of the Black Panther Party, ambushed three pairs of NYPD officers, execution style. Off. Tom Curry and Nick Binetti survived when the BLA shot them with a machine gun on Riverside Drive.
However, two nights later, 32nd Pct. Off. Waverly JONES and Joseph PIAGENTINI were assassinated as they responded to a Harlem housing project in what was later determined as a bogus phone call. The following January, as 9th Pct. partners Gregory FOSTER and Rocco LAURIE were walking a foot post in the East Village when the BLA shot and killed them from behind. A witness noted that one of the shooters was "dancing" as he fled. In the last two double murders, the BLA targets were BLUE. In each case, the slain officers were black and white.
In addition, the BLA was responsible for other shootings of police officers. Investigation revealed that the cop killers were BLA members, their mastermind being "the Mother Hen" or "the Soul" of the BLA, none other than Joanne CHESIMARD, aka
"ASSATA".
During a May 2, 1973 traffic stop on the New Jersey Turnpike, NJ Trooper Werner FOERSTER was murdered in cold blood by Chesimard and the two other occupants of the auto. Chesimard was subsequently convicted of the murder and was sentenced to life in prison. However, with the help of the BLA, she escaped the penitentiary in 1979 and was later found to be living in asylum in Castro's Havana. She is now age 68. The FBI and NJ have her on their Most Wanted list and are offering a reward of $2,000,000 for her capture (alive) and return to prison.
Both the FBI and the State of New Jersey demand her return. Apparently, in his recent "negotiations" with Cuba, the current POTUS offers no comment on ASSATA SHAKUR.
So now we have one of "Assata's Daughters" shouting "fuck the police" before a mob.

I am a CPS teacher but did not see the person who spoke after Karen Lewis. A colleague told me about the fiasco. I am sure Page May was invited to speak but it was not by the teachers. The teachers need to question if we have chosen the right person to represent us now. Karen Lewis has alienated the rank and file teachers / union members. She has not denounced this person who is affiliated with a group that is being investigated by the FBI. If we had a choice that day, Page May, who fought her way to the podium, would not have been allowed to utter one word. She does not represent the majority of teachers who truly care about why we chose this profession.
The person who asked, Why isn't Karen Lewis denouncing Page May's actions," is right. Our union president needs to step down NOW. She is no longer our leader and, hopefully, the teachers of Chicago will smarten up in May when we need to choose a new leader. We love our policemen and firemen.

An activist’s declaration at last Friday’s Chicago Teachers Union rally — “f— the police, and everybody f— with ‘em” has drawn the ire of Chicago police and a sound Twitter scolding for union president Karen Lewis.
And now the Fraternal Order of Police is asking Lewis to condemn the insult tossed out at the end of the CTU-organized rally outside the Thompson Center that has upset
FOP members and their families — many of which include Chicago Public School teachers. They took to Twitter and to peppering a popular Chicago police blog with angry comments.
“I did mention that lack of a response is almost like condoning the remarks,” FOP president Dean Angelo said of a lengthy phone conversation Monday evening with Lewis. “I know it was her rally, a public school rally, a CTU rally, and although she wasn’t aware of this person closing the rally so to speak, it was something that was under her banner.
“So we’re hoping that she understands it’s important for the CTU to come out address those comments,” he told the Sun-Times. “We are waiting for Ms. Lewis to respond.”
Lewis did not return messages seeking comment Tuesday. Lewis repeated on Twitter what she had said at Friday’s rally after someone heckled her own speech with anti-police comments: “What did I say? Police are NOT our enemies.”
A union spokesman said that the CTU never expected such profanity from Page May, of Assata’s Daughters, a collective of black women perhaps best known for protesting Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez. The spokesman confirmed that May is not a CTU member nor a teacher in Chicago’s public schools.
May could not be reached either. She took the stage late Friday afternoon, right after Lewis revved up the crowd to march to Grant Park. May ended an impassioned call for justice with a profanity-laced tirade against CPD, the FOP and Chicago’s Independent Police Review Authority, saying “F— the police, and everybody f— with ‘em.”
Why any speaker followed Lewis is not yet clear. A version of the speakers list from Thursday had the union president capping the rally before thousands of teachers filled Chicago’s Loop, taking over Wacker Drive and Michigan Avenue on their way to Grant Park.
Angelo said from his conversation with the union president that “Ms. Lewis thought or expected she would close her own rally.”
Instead, she was followed by May and another speaker, and then the Rev. Jesse Jackson.
The CTU staged a one-day strike to draw attention to Illinois’ paltry funding for education, in conjunction with allies from other unions, area universities and others feeling the crunch of a stalled state budget. In addition to picketing outside schools on April 1, the union invited a wide variety of other groups — Fight for $15 and Nabisco factory workers, for example, to plan events throughout the city, too, tagged “#ShutItDown.”

We'll do that as soon as you old timers realize how lucky you are to be retired and not out there working in this toxic environment and to have worked in a time where the police were respected and feared and had a CPD you could depend on from p/o's to watch commanders. If you can say you had fun or enjoyed the job you're very lucky because now it's nothing but a feeling of discomfort and impending doom and you don't know when its coming or where its gonna come from, you just know its coming unless of course you're heavy or have a phone call or have a 'spot' where you're not working the street. People are jumping ship long before they have their 20 years because this job is too many headaches. Spare the 'you're a crybaby' or 'suck it up' comments because you may have been there and done that but it was a different time in a different society. Try doing the job now doing what you did and got away with back in the day and you'll end up fired or in the can in a new york minute. P/O's out there now have to grab onto something and hold on tight because there's a storm going on out there and if you're not really careful you'll get swept away.

FOP should rent a Billboard truck with her picture pasted on the side with audio and park it in front of her school and play audio when the students and parents are there in the morning and again in the afternoon at dismissal.

I think, without doing it intentionally, you just perfectly summed up what's happened to policing in recent years. I left for exactly the reasons you stated here.
I think most of us 'old-timers' CAN and DO relate to what you're saying. It's hard to see my (still working) friends having to rein in their every policing instinct, in order to survive their last few years otj before retirement. I worry about them in a way none of us had to worry twenty years ago; not for their physical safety as much as for their crucifixion in the media and their mental well-being. These are demoralizing, stressful times for everyone. 'Impending doom' was a perfect choice of words.

Yes, I agree with what you said. Another point I want to make is pretty soon the young bucks on the job are gonna be gang members or gang members associates. Nobody is applying like when I took the test. No decent person wants this. It's not gonna be guys or gals that come from police families. The mayor recruited from the black community and there will be exceptions made to satisfy the blacks. Black gangs control the reverends and aldermen in certain areas. All they need is to infiltrate the CPD and they'll have coppers doing hits for them and running dope and don't worry IAD or IPRA will look the other way rather than be called racists. The angry citizens will really find themselves in a pickle when that happens. They'll probably want the old CPD back but its gonna be gone and they'll have gotten what they asked for.
