IPRA Going, Going....

  • A Chicago alderman has unveiled a new plan to hold police accountable and she wants citizens, not mayoral appointees calling the shots.

Alderman Leslie Hairston is taking aim at Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s power over the process.

“What he has to understand is that it was the people who put him in office, will be the people who take him out of office if he does not begin to listen and to hear what they are asking for,” she said today.

Alderman Hairston said he should relinquish his power over the city’s independent police review authority, known as IPRA.

“The definition of a leader is somebody who does not mind ceding some power,” Hairston said.
Um, no, that's the definition of a push-over. A lame duck. A patsy. Certainly not a leader.

We don't see Rahm letting this happen. If he did, you can kiss any semblance of police work good bye. Numbers are down 90% or more? That would kill the remaining 10% and Prickwrinkle would have to start laying off judges and lawyers.

Yeah, this from an alderperson who can't bring a grocery store to her ward. Nice try, though.

Sad to say that if citizens were to investigate wrong doing, knowing the intelligence of some and the hatred for the police by others, police work would come to a halt. But the aldercreatures know how to keep themselves from being investigated by the IG. Don't you just love Chicago politics. Can't wait to leave this God forsaken city.

Hairston did say (WBBM radio interview) that not hiring 1000 new officers as Mayor Emanuel had promised only means overworking the officers we have until they "burn out."

Whatever else she may have in mind, that seems to show at least some concern for people. I guess I'll take it, as far as it goes. Half a cup better than none these days...

Look on the bright side, the ASA's will start approving felony arrests more just to hang onto their jobs. I can see going to a trial and asking the ASA, "Are you the second or third chair?" Their reply would be, "I'm the ONLY chair in this room!"

Once again another part time alderman with a plan, another big mouth with all answers.
The police are the problem and not their constituents.
They don't address the folks who shoot, loot, kill, rob and destroy.

But I still hear and see the chases.
Apparently 007, 009, 010 and 011 doesn't get it.
We've heard from The Caucus and are now realizing The DIJ/ACLU Experience.
Just what is the lure of the ghetto?
What's in your future?
A mop and bucket?
Give it a think, why dont'cha.

This so called aldercreature wants these street animals to judge a PO's conduct when they know nothing about police work. They would take the word of every asshole who said they were there and the polices just shot him or her like a dog or fought with the him or her for no reason. The mentally of these elected official amaze me, they have no more brains than a flea and I think the flea has the power to think better than these aldercreatures. Just let the black community do what ever they want and they will be happy when we become Detroit and the tax base flees. The political correctness for these animals needs to stop and make them accountable for their actions. Stat Fetal

It said in the paper this morning that IPRA (OPS) found that in all the police involved shootings it investigated in the last 10yrs, they concluded wrong doing by the Police in 2% of the shootings. Well, gee, maybe the Police were LEGALLY (important word here) justified in shooting the assailants in the rest of the shootings....ya think. In my 30yrs on the job, I found that if the Police did something wrong, they were punished, but if they didn't do anything LEGALLY (there's that word again) wrong, even if the perception was that they did do something wrong was there, they were exonerated.

They can take down ipra. If it was run right, it would ne a benefit to the department. As it is, it protects the clouted and hurts innocent coppers through political vendetta. No self respecting cop would work ipra.

The Office of Professional Standards was revamped and renamed into the INDEPENDENT Police Review AUTHORITY.

INDEPENDENT to show that they were no longer under the direction of the Superintendent. In fact they can appeal to override any Superintendent decision to the Complaint Review Panel. In other words, they can and have overridden the opinions of multiple bosses in the chain of command review including the Chief of IAD and the Superintendent. Resulting in eventually losing the case before the Board or an Arbitrator and paying out.

AUTHORITY, as in Respect my.....

Of course it was still the same collection of investigators including the numerous unchecked militants and morons and it still will be if they rename or revamp it again.

Should it be called the REALLY Independent This Time Police Authority? It already is independent of reason, common sense, reality, thought, ethics etc. Many a cop has been hurt unnecessarily by their agenda.

Now it sounds like they want a randomly selected mob of people to give the thumbs up or less likely down to our execution.

Happy Times!

Who will make up this proposed Independent Police Monitor:

Ald. Leslie Hairston (5th) on Tuesday said she will introduce a proposed ordinance to abolish IPRA and create the Independent Citizen Police Monitor, which she said would be more civilian-oriented and independent.

Inspector General Joe Ferguson would appoint eight of the members. Four would be civil rights activists. The other four would represent immigrant and LGBTQ rights organizations, Chicago’s faith-based community and lawyers who fight for victims of police abuse.

The remaining three members would be the mayor, the police superintendent and the City Council’s Police and Fire Committee chairperson–or their designees.

Alderman Leslie Hairston currently sits on the City Council's Rules and Ethics committee. She also serves on the budget committee which doles out the public money under direct control ofthe silver fox Ed Burke.

When it came time for a vote on an ordinance to allow Joe Ferguson, Inspector General for the City of Chicago, oversight on the out of control spending by Alderman, she voted "neah" to the ordinance. If enacted the ordinance would allow the IG to routinely audit the public money outlays the aldermen recklessly spend.

"Do as I say not As I do" is Alderman Hairston's method of operation. Her ward encompasses the 2nd, 3rd & 6th police Districts all of whom have out of control shooting and homicides problems. Not to mention the double digit unemployment and lack of jobs. All the Hope and change she proposed was just campaign fodder and electorate propaganda.

Hairston doesn't like independent review and accountability of her actions and the ethically challenged city council. Which leads one to ask: All of you complaining about oversight of Chicago police — why aren't you asking for full oversight of the City Council? Inquiring minds want to know.

How about allowing the inspector general to investigate aldermen? In reality we need the FBI but since they are afraid of what they might find they won't. I love ghetto politicians, always calling for others to be looked at all the while being dirty as the constituents they serve.

Absolutely. The crowd votes, and then you get live streaming video of the ofc. being thrown into the lion pit.

Lowest common denominator is what we're aiming for. Government by smartphone, omg, omg. True democracy. Huge potential savings.
